  1. discovered that lake is instructional purposes only, I fished the lake, Broke a pole by trying to unsnag...bad start of day, Caught nothing for nearly 3 hours, Then around 6PM started getting dark and caught 5 bass in less then 15 mins, all 15"-19" Must be over 18" to take and no need to take them, but much fun on my light tackle rod,and I also caught a large sunfish 13" and fat...but that was it for the day, The sunfish was a heavy fighter too many jumps getting him in...Was the most gold sunfish I have seen In a while with alot of them being mix's... Bad day, Over night and on sunday we received around 9" of rain...assumingly flooding the lakes a bit, will go up theyre maybe in a week try again... Know any places were I can get a catfish pole? Walmart doesnt carry them... Rick
  2. thinking of going tonight/tmarrow morning befor Ike hits, any advise on bait for carp/catfish? aqny advise on any hot spots? also is third lake (see my google earth picture) have fish in it? thanks
  3. Bulls? Wow never seen them in theyre, but you can only be theyre till I believe dusk, I usually catch bulls at night. But never caught/seen one theyre. I figure I will try getting out theyre when it gets into the 60-70's alittle cooler, no luck on the days when its 80-90 out. Also, What bait are you using for the carp? I was told to try corn, but never had a change to try, Also how heavy are they? Do you guys know if they used to stock flatheads in theyre, I see alot of channels but I had never seen any flatheads until an local told me where some where, and that was the first time I caught one and they give a large fight, thought it would snap the line, but yeah great experience because channels are no where near those flats. Some bait advise possibly? Btw, has anyone else seen the skipjack herrings theyre, I caught one on my line with a worm on it, fairly large it was 11", I have only seen them in the rivers usually around 4-8". I use small bluegill theyre for flathead bait, and stink bait for the channels theyre. Finally, Is stink bait best used during the cold? In the warm it seems to fall off easily, during the cooler(50's-70's) it seems to stay on better.Just wondering, thanks. Rick EDIT::: P.S forgot, about the trout, do you know when the stocking season starts and ends, and generally how many people fish the waters for the trout? Finally, Are the trout good to eat and how largE?
  4. I am wondering if anyone has fished here and knows how often its restocked, I hard every week, every 2 weeks and every 3 weeks but am not sure, does anyone else know? Has anyone else fished here and caught anything also? Largest I have ever caught out from the lake(#2, There are 3 lakes) was a 28" Flathead aprox 5-7lbs(Weren't able to weigh) and some 16-24" bass, Cant take any less then 18" thought i believe... I was wondering also if anyone has caught any of the carps out of that lake, I haven't seen anyone catching em, But they are jumping everywhere and are a good fight, Normal day I see 10 of them jump. I just now noticed on google images that theyre is another lake at susan, I have only fished at Lake #1(Bricks around lake, Lake #2, A lake and another lake combined with bridges connecting, On google earth I noticed if you walk all the way past the lakes theyres a THIRD LAKE, I thought the third lake was always a kid lake, But I guess that it doesnt count as it, Has anyone fished at the third lake? Well thanks, If any of you guys are in stl its around a 20-30min drive, But a good lake to fish Its stocked with cats(Channels) Flatheads must been dumped and grew, But if you know any info about the third lake please tell I never knew it existed in the past 8yrs of fishing theyre Thanks, Here is where it is located, http://maps.google.com/maps?li=rwp&q=S...United%20States http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatla...oveMap=notfound Thanks, Catfish
  5. Thanks, Also, How do you guys catch the shad? I have always used perch for flats in lakes, this is basically the first time I will be fishing in the huge of a lake/river, Only other river was the meramec and was 3ft-4ft. But do you catch the shad with a small net or a small hook? Thanks, I am a beginneer btw at these huge lakes, Biggest was down in the ozarks years ago when was like 8-10, So dont remember much. Thanks, Rick.
  6. Cool, Yeah we just have , I would say like 8-10Ft poles? We dont usually fish heavy , Most we usually will catch is 5 lber cat, It sounds like theyre is some interesting stuff down theyre, We have a zebco 733(20lb test) and a zebco special edition 33 I beleive with 15lb line, Do you think this will do? Also, By saying Below truman, Where is that exactly, I have never been theyre so I am not too sure of where everything is. If you wouldnt mind, Can you tell me is all the water on the map(The large area) Lake truman!? Wow if so it is huge! Also, If you wouldnt mind and have the time could you circle were "below truman" is, Thanks. Also, Do you cut the shad, or keep it live, or just let it die and use whole? Much appreciated! Rick P.S Which do you fish for, Channels, Flats, or blues? Andnwhich tastes the best? (I have only ate channels)
  7. I have never fished truman lake, We were looking into going to Truman lake/Dam near Warsaw MO, We don't own a boat so we have to fish from bank, We fish for usually catfish, We have only caught Channels and Flathead sin the rivers, and we heard that they're a vast amount of flats, channels and blues here, So we were looking for some advise of the best cat fishing areas, We heard that below the dam is a good cat fishing area, but not positive and would love for it to be confirmed. So, Basically, Is Truman Lake/Dam a good fishing spot? Is there alot of catfish here? Is there good bank fishing? And what is the best bait?(Stink bait, Shad, Live, Cut bait...ect) Thanks, Rick Also, How long of a drive is it from STL?
