I am planning a trip for sometime in DEC. can someone give me some information about where to stay? I would like to fish the Crane 2-3 days.

After a long day fishing on the Spring River I come home and there it is my G2 9 ft 3 weight waiting on my front porch. What a beautiful rod it has a redish brown blank and red wraps and gold thread. The writing on the rod is in gold and also has my name on it. I dont have a reel yet but I cant wait to hook a trout on that rod. When I get a reel I will post a report how it fishes.

If you are going to use the smoothbore barrel that came with your 870 I would shoot the old type rifled slug. Buy acouple of different brands and see which ones shoot best. I myself dont like buckshot for deer. The rifled slug will get you out to about 50yds and they have a ton of killing power.

They are not illegal plan and simple! The best home protection gun by far.

Things have been slow during the hot weather but with the cooler temps I think the trout will really turn on. I was going to go this morning but I have a sick little one that needs to go see doc. If things go good with doc I will slip off in the morning and give it a try. I will post a report if I go.

A few days ago I meet with a good friend and picked up my new G2 fly rod. Since this was the first batch of the new fly rods I really did not know what to expect. I opened the rod tube and pulled the pieces out one at a time and all I can say is WOW what a Beautiful rod. My rod has a gray blank with blue wraps and siler thread. The smoke gray skeletal reel seat with a maple insert truly sets this rod apart from any other rods I have owned. The next step was to hurry and get home so I could cast this beauty. The rod being a mid-flex took me awhile to get used to since my other rods are a tip flex but I quickly got in tune with the rod and was making 50ft cast pretty easy. I do feel that I had the wrong line on my reel for this rod and will be trying the classic cortland 444 on it next. I did get a afternoon on the Spring River and the rod was a like a wand in my hand. I caught and released 15 stockers that afternoon and the rod preformed very well. If you would like to see the new g2 fly rods just go to www.g2rods.com. Click on the flyrod and then select freshwater or saltwater and then build the rod of your dreams. You select blank color, wrap color and thread color and also the reel seat type you want. Great flyrod for the money. Now I am trying to figure out which one to order next.

I would bring some olive beadhead buggers in size #10 and some snail patterns. Scuds work at times around the moss.

That will work.

When we going?

I dont know about that. And yes they have flyrods.

Just to let everyone know the G2 flyrods are on the website now. Just go to www.g2rods.com. I have a new 9ft 5weight coming.

Most of the wild hogs that I have seen weighed under the 200 pound mark. Your 45 would do the job but I would use it only in a backup purpose. If you want to hunt them with a pistol go with the 44 mag with aleast a six inch barrel. The 357 mag will also put down a hog but I would go with the 44mag.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these two reels? I have booked a trip to fish for redfish in Fla next summer. The guide uses these reels on his TFO TICR rods. I am wanting to bring my own equipment and the TFO reels are affordable but I am worried about the drag holding up. What do you guys think?

Ferrel Hog Hunting In Missouri
billynwtf replied to duckydoty's topic in New News and General Discussion
Wappello still has hogs but they are very hard to hunt and lots of hunting pressure. Hunt down both sides of hwy KK and look for signs and wallows. The MDC has lots of little water hole ponds get a map and locate them. If the hogs have been using them back off and climb a tree and just wait them out. It has to be hot and the hotter the better. Pay close attention to the wind because these hogs are very very smart. Anything goes except night hunting and no tags are needed even for out of staters. Good luck. -
A while ago while fishing the Spring River at dam#3 I had my Orvis TLS 5weight stolen out of my truck. I had been in the river for awhile and with lots of people around I needed to go head to the blue porta- potty. I failed to lock the doors and some jerk stole my rod. Well I have been looking for a new rod and I was on a budget. I ordered the ROSS rod and all I can say I consider it just as good as the Orvis rod. I have been on two trips with this rod and it preforms in some ways better than the TLS. I have thrown everything from dries to streamers with no problems. If you are looking for a new rod dont let the price of this rod fool you.

Your best bet is to hunt around Wappello Lake near Poplar Bluff. You need to find highway KK . Lots of hogs still there. I would scout around looking for good fresh sign or a fresh wallow. These hogs are hunted hard so I would not try hunting them on the ground. Get near a fresh wallow and go up a tree and wait. You will have to wait until turkey season is over to hunt them. The best time is when it is really hot. The hogs have no choice but to go to water or a wallow. Good luck.

I brought lunch from the house. I might be on the river again this weekend, if so I will stop and have lunch.

Started the day off fishing at Riverside near the falls. There was a fellow spin fishing in the hole so I had to fish up river from him. It was pretty slow for awhile started off with a snail fly catching a few. When the guy using spin equipment left I moved closer to the falls and started catching fish. The fish slowed alittle on the snail pattern so I switch to a olive bh wooly bugger#12 and ended up catching 17 fish in all. Nothing real big just average but one was close to 16 inches. The sun started to get high in the sky and the fish shut down so I drove to Lasseters. I had lunch and then entered the river. I started with a snail fly and fished hard and only caught one fish. Lots of people fishing and not catching so I moved to dam 3. I started off with a wooly bugger and started catching fish again. Nothing big just stockers in all I caught and released 27 fish all day. It was good to be on the river.

Heard several gobblers this morning. They shutup when they hit the ground. Kinda makes me think that they have hens already. I dont know if this is good or bad, but got me fired up also. Looking forward to the spring hunt. Got tags for MO and Tenn including Ar. Guess I will spend the rest of the day testing out my new Browning BPS.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I will be heading to the Spring River instead. I will wait until things get alittle more stable.

I spend about 80% of the time using a nymph. Whether or not I use a indicator and split shot depends on the fish and water conditions. But I do love the dry fly. The good old wooly bugger catches alot of my fish also.
