  1. I just wanted to wish my fellow fly fishermen a merry christmas and a happy new year. Keep your lines tight and your flies wet.
  2. I shoot a bowtech and it is by far the best bow I have ever shot. I have been threw the rest and the bowtech is the smoothest bow I have shot. And its fast.
  3. If you are up to it you can check the area around wappello lake in mo. Lots of hogs there. No permit needed to hunt them even out of state hunters. Try the section on highway KK. Hunt around the clear cuts and you should find enough sign to start your hunt from there.
  4. yeah same here no ducks except the rice fields and you have to know someone who knows someone to hunt them. I still have not made it to the river yet. Lots of honey do stuff and christmas shopping. Maybe one day next week.
  5. Well I have just about got the deer bug out of my system for the year. I guess I will go a few more times. With duck season in now I have got that bug also. Got my beloved flyrods out the other day to put new line on and give them a hug. Well I have also caught the fishing bug. Anyone fishing? Guess I will make a trip in a week or so. Waiting for some new flies to come in and I will be off to the river.
  6. Well scents do work if and that is a big word if there are any bucks in the area. I have had great sucess using scents during the rut. Most hunters dont understand that there must be a buck in the area and it must come in contact with the scent to work. Most people just put it out hoping a buck will smell it and come in for a shot. Your best bet is knowing where a big buck is and that will come from scouting. Scout 90% of your time and hunt 10% and your odds go way up. Get to know where that big buck lives and where he goes everyday and you can use scents to fool him.
  7. You can try New Madrid co. in the bootheel. There are still a few birds left there. If you go put on your walking boots because you might have to walk aways to find them. I think season in the south starts Dec. 1. Lots of quail this year due to farmers switching from cotton to grain.
  8. My buddy called me the other day telling me about his new sako a-7. Being a gun nut I thought a sako in the gun safe would be nice but I would like to talk to someone who owns one or at least seen one.
  9. Anyone been to the Spring River lately? I am itching to go been busy with the Boll Weevil program and I have deer on the brain. I think I will make a trip next week sometime just wondering what the fishing has been like. Take care and keep a tight line.
  10. sent you the name and phone number of my buddy
  11. Thanks for the information guys. I thought the 9ft rod would be too limber. I was looking for a fun rod but was thinking the 9ft rod would be like a noodle rod. I think I will go with a 7ft 6in or a 8ft. Keep a tight line.
  12. Does anyone fish a 3 wt rod? I have been thinking about one for the spring river since most of the fish are running smaller. I have been looking at the cabelas LST in a 3wt 9ft. Should I go with a shorter length? I am afraid the 9ft would be too limber to cast.
  13. Thanks for the information guys. I think the okuma reels should be good enough I finally got to look at one and seems to be built really good.
  14. Went to the river Friday afternoon to meet Doc Dave at Riverside. Friday afternoon the fishing was slow. Most fish were caught on a olive wolly bugger. Sat morning was the same a few on olive buggers a few on black. Most of the rest of the day the fish seemed to want something small. I caught some fish on a gray squirrel tail nymph. Most of the fish were small. Like Doc Dave said the water is not clear and yes we had to put up with the floaters. I will be glad when it is too cold for them. Keep a tight line.
  15. Just ordered one in a 5-wt.I will let you know in afew days when it comes in.
  16. Just wondering if anyone uses okuma reels. I am looking for a 8-9 weight model for carpin. My 8wt reel did not hold up and the drag is spent. It was a cheap SA reel. Keep a tight line.
  17. No luck today. Darn things are hard to sneak up on. I cant wade because the bottom is very soft. You would sink up to your knees or better. Will try again in the morning.
  18. Went out today in search of a big carp. When I got to my local lake I didnt see any feeding fish so I just fished blind. I finally drove around to the other side and right at the boat ramp there were feeding carp. I tied on a crawfish carp fly from I think Bass Pro shops anyway and made my first cast to them. Spooked everything in the hole. Alittle later I could see one right next to the bank with his back out of the water feeding. This time I stalked up the bank and made a cast . I noticed a little bump and as I lifted up on the rod the whole lake exploded. I had him but a whole 3or 4 seconds and he threw the fly. Well anyway I will try it again in the morning.
  19. Hello Doc Dave good to see you on this site.
  20. Just checking on the conditions on the river with all this rain. Was kinda thinking about a trip this weekend but I dont want to make the drive if its muddy.
  21. Thanks for the information I think I will go try to catch a few when this weather blows out of here. I have the book carp on a fly I bought last nite at the book store kinda got me fired up. Sorry about my sloppy first post it was 4 something in the morning and my coffee had not kicked in yet. You know one eye open and the other one closed. Keep a tight line.
  22. Just wondering if anyone fishes for carp? I have been reading alot about it lately. Since I cant always get to favorite trouit river this might be something I could do around here. There plenty of the big gold fish around here. Any advice on flies? I have a 8-weight rod I use for bass guess I could turn it into a carp rod.
  23. Well I am finished working for the week and it looks like I wont get to fish for a couple of days due to this hurricane. Maybe I can get in a day Friday. Just hope it dont dump alot of rain and flood again.
  24. Thats very interesting. Can you send a picture of that? Never have thought about snails before.
