  2. Congrats Steve....look forward to seeing you when I'm in Mtn Home.....may stop in the last of June....
  3. if you have the time to drive south a little (about an hour) you can easily get to not only the indian river, but the stick marsh & farm 13. the latter two are supposed to be good bass fishing locations......for big bass... see the link. stick marsh & farm 13 the directions on there are accurate, except the road 'backcock', is really 'babcock'. there are also links @the bottom of the page to other locations.... if you continue going east on malabar road, you run right into US1 @the Indian river.....if you then drive south a ways, you'll get to sebastian and there is a bridge that will take you over the lagoon (and there are places to stop & you can fish) to sebastian inlet & you can fish the salt there.....people also pull over on US1 and park and wade out in the lagoon and fish too. if you locate a local shop they can give more specific directions to the inlet if you want. enjoy---there's all kinds of fishing there and the restaurants around have FRESH fish (unlike what we get) ...awesome! mahi-mahi.....yum..
  4. Yes, we are glad we did!
  5. this may be old news to some, but i just got it from a friend and thought i'd post it for all who may have an interest. NEWS RELEASE Immediate Release For more information, contact: Jeff Williams Arkansas Game & Fish Commission 201 East 5th Street Mountain Home, AR 72653 (870) 424-5924 The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Needs Your Help Do you like to fish for trout on Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters? Would you like to have a say in how the trout fisheries in Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters are managed? If so, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) could use your help. This spring AGFC will be seeking public input to aid in the development of management plans for the trout fisheries on Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters. Through a series of facilitated public meetings, anglers and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to help establish management goals for these fisheries. This is part of a new process that the AGFC Trout Management Program is using in which the public plays an integral role in determining the future of trout fishing in Arkansas. If you would like to take part, you are invited to attend the Mountain Home Trout Summit in May. This will be the first of several opportunities for you to get involved. The Mountain Home Trout Summit will be held on the evenings of May 14th and 15th in Mountain Home. Anyone interested in these fisheries is encouraged to attend both nights of the event. During the summit, participants will be asked what issues they want AGFC to focus on in regards to Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters and what advice they have for fisheries managers in addressing those issues. Two days later on May 17th there will be another public meeting, this time in Mountain View. This meeting will provide individuals from that area with the same opportunity to provide comments and suggestions as those that attend the Mountain Home meeting without having to travel so far. Following the Mountain Home and Mountain View meetings, AGFC personnel will draft a set of management options based on public input from the meetings. Comments sent in to the AGFC website as well as those obtained from a survey of non-resident anglers will also be used in developing management options, which will be available in early September. On October 29th, there will be a public review workshop where participants will be asked to provide comments on the management options developed by AGFC for Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters. AGFC fisheries personnel will then take this input and use it to shape a draft management plan, which will be available in early December. Finally, the public will be given another opportunity to provide input on the draft management plan during a second public review workshop on January 7th, 2008. A final draft of the management plan is anticipated by mid-March 2008. The public is invited to attend all public meetings and workshops, which will be facilitated by Spencer Amend of Dynamic Solutions Group. Specific times and locations will be made available prior to the meetings. Throughout this process, you will be able to track progress and find information on the AGFC website at www.AGFC.com/trout. If you enjoy or are concerned about the Bull Shoals and Norfork trout fisheries, AGFC trout managers invite you to participate and help build comprehensive plans that will make these fisheries the best they can be. Important Dates at a Glance May 14th & 15th – Mountain Home Trout Summit May 17th – Mountain View Public Meeting September 7th – Draft options document available to the public October 29th – First public review workshop – opportunity for public to provide comments on management options December 3rd – Draft management plan available to the public January 7, 2008 – Second public review workshop - opportunity for public to provide comments on management options

  9. dpenrod ~~ i'll bet your right. sure sorry to hear he passed away, i was kinda hoping i'd run into him again and share some of my stories of using 'his' fly.
  10. McManus ~~~ was Lem an Orvis rep???? The man i referred to in my OP's name started with an 'L', I just can't remember his name........
  11. i have it on my calendar, but don't know right now what i'll bring....
  12. starling is good too for soft hackles.....i tie a pheasant tail soft hackle and have fished it at taney with success.....i love fishing soft hackles...
  13. brittsnbirds--- the crackleback was a grizzly one & had a small head of fluorescent red on it. and yes, the renegade was a #8. the story on that one is, that same friend & i were fishing there last year i believe and watched this older man, walk down from the spring, casting to the opposite bank in between a few of us and catching fish after fish. there were only about three of us in that 'line' and she & I were two of them. he stopped and struck up a conversation with her and gave her 3 of the flies he was using....#8 renegades...well she shared with me and a little later that afternoon we went to the spring and tore 'em up-- had a blast. we saw him the next day and found out he is an orvis rep from KC and fishes at bennett occasionally with some other friends. there is a fly shop in independence that ties the flies for him. --I think it's the Rainbow Fly Shop. something about the hook, he couldn't get anywhere so he has this lady tie those for him.....but said he uses that fly all the time @bennett successfully. i know there are a lot of people who don't like to fish @ bennett, but you know, when you just HAVE to fish and you KNOW they are running water on taney -- what do you do??????? you go to bennett or you wait till the water warms up and then get the kayak out! i think bennett can be as good or as bad as ones expectations for the fishing experience are. if you expect to have some pristine experience - forget it....you'll be disappointed...however, if you go hoping to catch some fish and realize that you may run into someone who doesn't meet your expectations of what a fly fisherman should be, then you might have a good day depending on your level of tolerance. people are people no matter what the pursuit~~~~ take driving for example......i have much more tolerance for fisherman that don't do what i think they should do than i have for some idiot driver who thinks his car belongs in my trunk until he can speed up to pass me!!! he's usually the one i meet at the next light

    Chili Recipe's

Hey KFF !! I had something very similar @at party a long time ago, but rather than useing jalapeno's they used those pepperocini's (sp?) -- wrapped a piece of thinly sliced turkey around the pepperocini and then the bacon and grilled them -- they were AWESOME!
  15. WOW you had a FULL weekend! but i have found that sometimes the best trips are the ones that are done on the spur of the moment!
  16. well, i fished bennett today with a friend since our club trip to the arkansas river was postponed due to all the rain.... the water level was up at bennett, more than i've seen it in a long time. fished all in zone 1 and caught fish on cream jigs (i'm not a purist, i'll catch 'em anyway that's possible) zebra midges (primrose and pearl and a light olive size 18's). went to the spring and used a #14 flourescent green crackleback and a #8 renegade and had a blast! fished em on top ~~ everyone else there was nymphing and they kept coming up to the dries....... ya gotta love it.
  17. Sorry I had to miss Sowbug this year, but sounds like it was great. Ward is a nice guy and has a great web site....... check it out. [url=http://www.warmwaterflytyer.com/welcome.asp]
  18. Welcome Heather! I think you'll find the forum, friendly and informative & yes, we'll need to work on the fly rod thing
  19. sounds good!
  20. i have a gas grill and like it quite well....as for smoke flavor.....i have only used the cast iron box that was mentioned above. we soak the wood chips, remove one of the grates and place it right above the flame....close the lid and wait until you can see smoke coming from the grill.....then start cooking. it give food the smoke flavor somewhat, but is not as intense as a 'regular' grill so to speak. i imagine you could add additional chips as needed, but we never have.
  21. John, i have a friend who retired from Mo Hwy Patrol and he said the same thing.....too bad some people just don't listen.
