  1. Everyone to their own. That's why they put a limit on bass.
  2. Really nice bunch of crappie. Congrats.
  3. Try the link below for a pretty good report. http://southforkresort.net/Information/fishing_report.htm
  4. Just an un-educated guess, but I'm thinking the crappie have been put into limbo, and with some warm days and nights will resume their spawning ritual. On the lower part of LOZ they had hardly got started, and shouldn't have been affected much. If the weather stays warm that part of the lake should still experience a good spawn. I think that in the areas where the crappie were further along in the spawn mode those areas may not experience the "big rush" to the banks, but rather a subdued finish to the spawn. In my 50 years of crappie fishing I don't recall such extreme weather as we've had this spring. Many times we have a gradual buildup of warm days interrupted by short cool down periods with a final long warm period when the "big one" takes place. Sometimes we don't get the final long warm spell and the spawn kind of fizzles. This is a whole different ball game this year. As I said before this is just a guess. It will be interesting to see what really does happen.
  5. Thanks twosets. I wish it could have been a better report. I think I might have done better with minnows. The ones that I graphed would touch the jig, but not take it. Maybe a really small jig like Bill Babler just reported taking some crappie on, would have worked. I have always heard that the surface temp needs to read 62 - 65 degrees at 7:00 am for the crappies to be up on the banks and spawning. That may be too fine a line, but probably close. May be other variables also. Yeah, the cold front could play havoc with this weekend. Good luck if you go. jcmojo
  6. twosets, I will tell you what I know, which may not be all that helpful. Was up to the 42 mile marker last Friday with two fishing buddies and had a fairly decent day. We caught 32 keepers from 5 foot out to 18 foot. The 10:00am water surface temp was 53 degrees and it warmed up to 65 by 3:00 am. When we cleaned the fish we noticed that none of the males had any black on them, and the females eggs were not bloody or mushy. Today I put in at Coffman Beach ramp on the Gravois. By all rights this should have been a great day to fish. 80 plus temp, full moon, warm water temps, dogwoods blooming out. I didn't get to the ramp until 10:00, and the first thing I noticed was a lack of trailer rigs in the parking lot. It should have been full, but only had about 8 rigs parked. The first dock I stopped at I threw the jig up into the boat well and landed a nice 13 inch crappie. That pretty well did it for me for the day. I caught a few dinks, a nice 3 lb hybrid and a small black bass. I spent some time fishing beds and could see fish around them on the graph, but they were not into jigs. I hit the shoreline amongst the docks, but no takers. I even trolled and lost one nice fish. Granted the wind was tough, but still should have picked up some crappie. The water temp was 57 when I started. I saw 63 later in the day. It was pretty clear around Coffman's, but I went almost to Gravois Mills and got into some better water there. Not sure why, but it sure wasn't much of a crappie day for me. Maybe some others have a better report for you. Good luck. jcmojo
  7. verbs72, Not much going on, or at least not many reports of fish being caught. I'm sure some are fishing, and maybe catching, but it has been pretty darn cold for several weeks and that has thinned out the fishing troops. I did hear one report of a fella catching nice crappie on wind blown points. The water temp has dropped to 34 and water level is at 656.9. About 3 feet low. There was a lot of severe dock damage to many of the older marina and condo docks from the December snow. Some individual docks were also damaged. If you are out cruising on the lake you don't have to look very hard to find some damage. By the time you get here in April it should look a lot different. It won't be completely back to normal, but a lot of folks depend on the Lake for their living, so they're working hard at it. Below is a link that you can go to get the latest temp and water level. http://www.livelakeozarks.com/ jcmojo
  8. I'm still not sure about the trade-in. I know that Navionics had a $50.00 rebate for Hot Map Premium chips sold during a certain period in late 2006, because I bought one of them and got the rebate. I thought the trade-in was a separate deal. Take a look at the following link. It might help some. I just don't know. http://www.navionics.com/TradeInProgram.asp
  9. I think Navionics used to have a trade-in for old chips. Have you checked into this.
  10. Thom, I haven't been yet, but I'm thinking that the time you are going to be at the lake should be good. The reports I have heard have the crappie starting to move out of the deep water into the shallow brush. You should be able to find them in the 8' to 15' brush piles. You can find these brush piles around docks (using depth finder), or you can go up into the Glaize state park area and run the banks in that depth water and pick them up on your depth finder. The crappie will be hitting crappie jigs, and in the fall you don't necessarily need a minnow with your jig although it can't hurt. Use pretty standard jig colors ie. yellow/white, purple/white, yellow/chartruse, black/chartruse. You might even catch the crappie up on the banks chasing shad. This is fun. A little breeze and a cork set 3 or 4 feet up your line will work. Cast to the bank and bring it back slow. Well, that's about all I have. Maybe a crappie fisherman who has been hitting it hard will reply and give you an up-to-date report and more and better advise. Good luck.
  11. Hello catfisherman. I'll try to give you some info that might help. It sounds like your going to have a boat since you mentioned jugging, so that will help you quite a lot. Your going to be quite aways up the Glaize arm if you're at the State Park camping area. To get the crappie you will probably need to head downstream a couple of three miles until you run into water with some decent depth. Catfishing should be good right at the State Park. If you will click on the following site, it has a pretty good and up to date fishing report (also tells you how to get em). Sounds like the cats and crappie are doing pretty good. Bass a little slow. If your boat has a good size motor you can run out of the Glaize arm and into the main Osage. Bass fishing might be better there. http://www.lakesunleader.com/articles/2006...outdoors/03.txt Best of luck to you. jcmojo
  12. James, The Lake of the Ozarks is as you say "dock hot", but you will need to take your boat out most of the time to fish them. You might be able to walk a short ways from your dock if you have friendly neighbors. The shoreline is private so you will probably have to go with the boat thing. You can fish all around the docks as the water is public. Try to stay far enough away so as to not bump the docks you are fishing. Should be a lot of bass to be caught, but I will have to leave that to the bass fisherman to fill you in. Good luck.
  13. Always enjoy reading tour report. Thank you.
  14. Hunter, you might pick up some more pointers from the following site. I just ran across it. Give it a few seconds to load. Looks like it was as of last friday. Also, looks like lilley and catman70 were right on. http://www.lakesunleader.com/articles/2006...outdoors/01.txt
