Everyone to their own. That's why they put a limit on bass.

Really nice bunch of crappie. Congrats.

Try the link below for a pretty good report. http://southforkresort.net/Information/fishing_report.htm

Just an un-educated guess, but I'm thinking the crappie have been put into limbo, and with some warm days and nights will resume their spawning ritual. On the lower part of LOZ they had hardly got started, and shouldn't have been affected much. If the weather stays warm that part of the lake should still experience a good spawn. I think that in the areas where the crappie were further along in the spawn mode those areas may not experience the "big rush" to the banks, but rather a subdued finish to the spawn. In my 50 years of crappie fishing I don't recall such extreme weather as we've had this spring. Many times we have a gradual buildup of warm days interrupted by short cool down periods with a final long warm period when the "big one" takes place. Sometimes we don't get the final long warm spell and the spawn kind of fizzles. This is a whole different ball game this year. As I said before this is just a guess. It will be interesting to see what really does happen.

Thanks twosets. I wish it could have been a better report. I think I might have done better with minnows. The ones that I graphed would touch the jig, but not take it. Maybe a really small jig like Bill Babler just reported taking some crappie on, would have worked. I have always heard that the surface temp needs to read 62 - 65 degrees at 7:00 am for the crappies to be up on the banks and spawning. That may be too fine a line, but probably close. May be other variables also. Yeah, the cold front could play havoc with this weekend. Good luck if you go. jcmojo

twosets, I will tell you what I know, which may not be all that helpful. Was up to the 42 mile marker last Friday with two fishing buddies and had a fairly decent day. We caught 32 keepers from 5 foot out to 18 foot. The 10:00am water surface temp was 53 degrees and it warmed up to 65 by 3:00 am. When we cleaned the fish we noticed that none of the males had any black on them, and the females eggs were not bloody or mushy. Today I put in at Coffman Beach ramp on the Gravois. By all rights this should have been a great day to fish. 80 plus temp, full moon, warm water temps, dogwoods blooming out. I didn't get to the ramp until 10:00, and the first thing I noticed was a lack of trailer rigs in the parking lot. It should have been full, but only had about 8 rigs parked. The first dock I stopped at I threw the jig up into the boat well and landed a nice 13 inch crappie. That pretty well did it for me for the day. I caught a few dinks, a nice 3 lb hybrid and a small black bass. I spent some time fishing beds and could see fish around them on the graph, but they were not into jigs. I hit the shoreline amongst the docks, but no takers. I even trolled and lost one nice fish. Granted the wind was tough, but still should have picked up some crappie. The water temp was 57 when I started. I saw 63 later in the day. It was pretty clear around Coffman's, but I went almost to Gravois Mills and got into some better water there. Not sure why, but it sure wasn't much of a crappie day for me. Maybe some others have a better report for you. Good luck. jcmojo

verbs72, Not much going on, or at least not many reports of fish being caught. I'm sure some are fishing, and maybe catching, but it has been pretty darn cold for several weeks and that has thinned out the fishing troops. I did hear one report of a fella catching nice crappie on wind blown points. The water temp has dropped to 34 and water level is at 656.9. About 3 feet low. There was a lot of severe dock damage to many of the older marina and condo docks from the December snow. Some individual docks were also damaged. If you are out cruising on the lake you don't have to look very hard to find some damage. By the time you get here in April it should look a lot different. It won't be completely back to normal, but a lot of folks depend on the Lake for their living, so they're working hard at it. Below is a link that you can go to get the latest temp and water level. http://www.livelakeozarks.com/ jcmojo

I'm still not sure about the trade-in. I know that Navionics had a $50.00 rebate for Hot Map Premium chips sold during a certain period in late 2006, because I bought one of them and got the rebate. I thought the trade-in was a separate deal. Take a look at the following link. It might help some. I just don't know. http://www.navionics.com/TradeInProgram.asp

I think Navionics used to have a trade-in for old chips. Have you checked into this.

Thom, I haven't been yet, but I'm thinking that the time you are going to be at the lake should be good. The reports I have heard have the crappie starting to move out of the deep water into the shallow brush. You should be able to find them in the 8' to 15' brush piles. You can find these brush piles around docks (using depth finder), or you can go up into the Glaize state park area and run the banks in that depth water and pick them up on your depth finder. The crappie will be hitting crappie jigs, and in the fall you don't necessarily need a minnow with your jig although it can't hurt. Use pretty standard jig colors ie. yellow/white, purple/white, yellow/chartruse, black/chartruse. You might even catch the crappie up on the banks chasing shad. This is fun. A little breeze and a cork set 3 or 4 feet up your line will work. Cast to the bank and bring it back slow. Well, that's about all I have. Maybe a crappie fisherman who has been hitting it hard will reply and give you an up-to-date report and more and better advise. Good luck.

Hello catfisherman. I'll try to give you some info that might help. It sounds like your going to have a boat since you mentioned jugging, so that will help you quite a lot. Your going to be quite aways up the Glaize arm if you're at the State Park camping area. To get the crappie you will probably need to head downstream a couple of three miles until you run into water with some decent depth. Catfishing should be good right at the State Park. If you will click on the following site, it has a pretty good and up to date fishing report (also tells you how to get em). Sounds like the cats and crappie are doing pretty good. Bass a little slow. If your boat has a good size motor you can run out of the Glaize arm and into the main Osage. Bass fishing might be better there. http://www.lakesunleader.com/articles/2006...outdoors/03.txt Best of luck to you. jcmojo

James, The Lake of the Ozarks is as you say "dock hot", but you will need to take your boat out most of the time to fish them. You might be able to walk a short ways from your dock if you have friendly neighbors. The shoreline is private so you will probably have to go with the boat thing. You can fish all around the docks as the water is public. Try to stay far enough away so as to not bump the docks you are fishing. Should be a lot of bass to be caught, but I will have to leave that to the bass fisherman to fill you in. Good luck.

Always enjoy reading tour report. Thank you.

Hunter, you might pick up some more pointers from the following site. I just ran across it. Give it a few seconds to load. Looks like it was as of last friday. Also, looks like lilley and catman70 were right on. http://www.lakesunleader.com/articles/2006...outdoors/01.txt

Champ, I don't do any bass fishing and haven't heard any reports on bass, so I can't report on that, but I did hear a crappie report on the Gravois arm from last Saturday. A friend of mine and his son caught 24 pretty nice crappie around deep water docks on jigs. They were mainly around docks on the main Gravois channel and not up in the coves. They said some of the big females were still carrying eggs and some of the big males were still black. That's about all I know. I guess if I were you I would start out looking for crappie around the deeper docks and then try some off the points and bluffs. This might be a trolling pattern. I don't think you will find them in shallow water. Good luck. jcmojo

With spring fishing season at hand, we need some recipe ideas
jcmojo replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Food
I'm going to have to give the Old Bay seafood seasoning a try. Sounds good, but haven't cooked with it yet. I'm also going to check out the "Food Down Under" web site. We tryed something different the other day on some crappie fillets. I had picked up some Hidden Valley Ranch dressing in the powdered form at Sam's. I sprinkled some of that on the fillets, and it was very good. It is only 5 calories per 1/3 tablespoon in it's powdered form. Very good change of pace. It does tend to want to brown very quickly where the powder is added so keep a close eye on the fillets if you try it. -
I talked to a fellow today that had done pretty good at MT last friday. He said they caught several 10-11 inch black males up close to the banks. You can check out the latest report at: http://southforkresort.net/Information/fishing_report.htm I'm pretty sure the owner of South Fork Resort puts out the fishing report. A friend of mine calls him sometimes for up to date info. The numbers he has listed are: 866-382-0033 (toll free) and 573-565-3500 He has a nice resort there, and prices are resonable. I have stayed there in the past. Nice people and they cater to fisherman. Wish I could tell you more, but I haven't been up there this spring. Good luck if you go.

Phil, That is a good tip. Saves lots of looking time. I like it, and I'll use it. Thanks again. Doug

Phil, I wasn't seeing the trees for looking at the forest. I have been opening only as: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?act=idx It's like a whole new world. I will enjoy the forum even more now, although I have been enjoying it a bunch already. Thanks for taking the time to research my problem. Doug

Phil, Maybe I don't know how to use the forum properly. When I sign on and scroll down thru all the forums all I see for each forum is: Date: date topic was entered In: topic's name By: last user to reply In order for me to see my topic I have to go into next oldest. I was aware that I can do this. This must be what you mean when you say I'm #2 from the top? This forum is the first one I have belonged to and my limited experience shows. I think I know what you are saying. You don't have to reply to this. Thanks for your trouble. JDKehr

Mister Administrator, I am wondering about the possibility of leaving a topic on the Buy-Sell-Trade forum for a set amount of time. I posted my boat for sale yesterday, and it has already been bumped into the old category. I doubt if too many folks got a chance to view it. I am not making this forum my primary venue for selling this rig, as I will do quite a bit of advertizing in the news media, but I thought it would be nice to put it on this forum as it could be the perfect boat for one of the members at a very resonable price. Would it be possible to set it up where you could only do replies and not new topics. That way someone, inadvertently and unintentionly, would not bump a brand new listing off. I don't know if this would work or not. Thanks for your attention to this matter. JDKehr (jcmojo)

I have a 2001 Lund Pro-V SE 1775 IPS Tournament Series boat for sale. It sits on a 2001 Heritage trailer with a 115 hp Suzuki four stroke motor powering it. It is a beautiful rig, just like new, with under 40 hrs, and always garaged. I bought the rig new. I'm asking $16,500, which is average retail in NADA. This rig is exceptional. Way above average retail. Price includes a Pin Point depth finder, 2 on-board battery chargers and batteries. MinnKota 24 volt trolling motor. Golf has gotten in the way of my fishing. I have purchased a smaller rig for the few times that I go fishing. 573-635-9913 or kehrjd@cebridge.net I am going to attempt to attach a photo to this topic. Haven't done that before, so I may not get it.

Just saying that it's not a good bet to bank on catching walleye on the lower LOZ. Questioned a Missouri Conservation fisheries biologist a couple of years ago about where on LOZ they are stocking the walleye. His reply was, most all are going in uplake because little walleyes tend to find their way downstream to dams, and then through the dam. They didn't want to stock the Osage river below Bagnall Dam. I'm sure that some people target them around the 31 mile marker where the Niangua arm takes off, and then further on uplake as far as Truman Dam. Myself, if I had limited vacation time to fish I would stick with the crappie or even the bass. Just one fisherman's opinion. Good luck.

Just got back from fishing TR the last 2 days. Didn't fish the James but was on Long Creek. Hadn't been on TR in 30 years. Had a lot of fun. The first day was search em out. Had brought a map, but not the one that shows Long Creek in Ark. We fished down to what we thought was about the end of Long Creek, but was actually Cricket Creek. The 2 of us caught 23 large females in the pole timber off the bluffs transitioning to chunk rock. White tripple ripple tails on roadrunner heads. We had a decent day, but it took us about 6 hours to get the 23. We discovered our mapping error that evening. The next day we went on past cricket creek and the action improved by a bunch. The smaller blacks were on the banks and there were a lot of big females in the poles. Had a blast. Same lures. Ran across some guys catching big crappie just above hwy 86 in the clear water on our way back to base camp. They were drifting minnows on slip bobber rigs over sunken timber on a rather flat area in 30 feet of water. Looked like fun, but we were out of time. Certainly did enjoy our trip to beautiful Table Rock Lake.
