Kudos to Bill once again. He even gave me a couple of pointers I did not know of for that area. I've had my fair share of fun all up and down those arms and Yokum creek in the Spring though hadn't paid much attention to those mud flats in the fall. Goes to show the blessing of this forum to all. Twoarkies, my apologies to you for not mentioning Yokum Creek and Long Creek. But I will give you this tip.........Remember these two arms for the spring white bass run as well and Yes, the swimmin' minnow Bill speaks of works wonders for the whites as well. Now, put that pontoon to work Sir

Here's one of my own that I custom painted that treats me real well on the Rock! I never named the color......LOL

PM me if you like. I'm in the middle of a full blown restoration on my Ranger 374V and have done PLENTY of fiberglass repair on this boat!......LOL
-
Save money and do it yourself. If you have access to a few tools fiberglass is not that hard to work with and repair. You can find fiberglass cloth and resin at most auto stores and Wal-Mart.

How Is This Economy Affecting Your Fishing?
troutgnat replied to troutgnat's topic in Table Rock Lake
Were all going to be fat when milk hits $8 a gallon......LOL. This post is very interesting, I'm liking all the comments. Let me say, one CAN eat healthy within a reasonable budget but one has to be willing to put some effort into it. Problem is, many of the American people are lazy; just stating facts. How many of us actually take the time to comp shop, use coupons, learn to cook instead of eating fast food and microwave crap dinners.??? -
Here's some guide information. Your boat sits within 200' of some great crappie fishing!!! I fish crappie a lot from Cricket Creek and know many others do as well. That whole bluff line that runs in front of the marina holds plenty of crappie. It holds a lot of brush. It gets hit hard but if your patient and work at it you will catch em'. Here's a pic of two fatties last spring that came off that bluff line.

I've got a do-it mold for 1/16th oz round head and pour my own usually on #4's. Then I powder paint the heads and tie my own. I have my favorite tube bodies for the brush and when I get tired of losing my pretty hand tied ones! Here's "Half-Nude" and "Dirty Laundry", two of my personal favorites. Sssshh...keep them a secret that half-nude is killer in cold water.

How Is This Economy Affecting Your Fishing?

This has gotten very interesting. I thank you all for your opinions and may the New Year bless us all with the simple riches of life through these economic woes. -
Ahhhhh Kudos to Bill. I take 2-3 trips in the spring and fall to LOZ to "shoot" the docks. Can't wait for my vacation to LOZ this coming Easter weekend.....wonder what I will be doing???

Not trying to stir the pot. Everyone has their opinions. Just trying to get more of an "economical" outlook here. What is this economic downslide going to,.....or should I say "how is this economic downslide going to affect our fishing? Let me ask all of us........How is the "current change of times" affecting your fishing? I'll start......With gas for boat and truck round trip, food/ice it's over a $100 bill for me to take a decent trip to the lake. That's a day's pay for me(not asking anybody to go into finances here, just stating for an example). So, my thinking has changed: -I don't run to the lake everyday off now -I choose my days wisely(weather channel) -I take short runs from the ramp(try to plan my fishing around my put-in and stay relatively close) -I fish ALL day to get the most out of money -When the timing is right I target "food species" to load the freezer.....This is moreso the case now than previously, crappie and bluegill are my friends. -I try to take a buddy to share in the gas bill(anybody having problems finding a friend that will stay out on the water all day?, not always an easy task! -I make more of my own tackle than ever before -I'm doing a full restore on my old Ranger 374 because I didn't want to take on another payment How bout you?

Bill thanks for your reply. You would be the guy to know. I, like everyone else has heard all the stories from the past. My grandpa has told me of times past and yes, NO food went wasted. Meaning if it was caught or killed it went TO the table. I didn't exactly mean that keeping fish to "pay for the trip". But I am curious to know if this economic downslide will revert us to days of old.?????

IIGGGGGgdddfmnkdmfkdmfvmvmkdGentlmen, I'm not knocking catch and release at all because I do my fair share of it but realistically speaking I think we may a see a change coming. Maybe not with the hard core tournament/bass fisherman but the regular joe fisherman and weekenders. With the economy in the dumps and gas prices through the roof fishing does not come an easy to come by recreation for most anymore. The days of survival are to come again. It's going to be hard to spend a day's pay to go to the lake for most and come home with no food. Just some "food" for thought.

Gentlemen, I have the following Minolta package for sale. If you've ever read any reviews on the Minolta XG-1 35mm's they were in a class of their own. They are still cherished to this day as one of the best and still used highly in the 35mm field. I used this primarily in college for some photography courses and some amateur work afterward. The only reason I'm selling this package is that I've succumed to the corporate life and do not have the time to keep up with photography. What time I have I'd rather be on the water fishing and this camera is not going in the boat with me. DID I MENTION THERE ARE 2 MINOLTA XG-1 35MM CAMERAS WITH THIS PACKAGE!!! Trust me you are getting a real gem here. All the lenses and filters are near 100% mint condition. The camera's are an honest 90%. Everything is capped on both ends! The whole set-up was always kept cleaned and cased as a professional would!!! 35 MM Minolta Package Contents list: -(2) Minolta 35 MMXG-1 cameras w/ lens, straps and lens covers! -The following extra lens's: *MD Minolta Celtic 200mm 1:4 *Minolta RF Rokkor-X 250mm 1:5.6 *Minolta MD Tele Rokkor-X 135mm 1:3.5 *Auto Tamron 28mm 1:28 -The following lens filters: *Hoya 49mm Diffuser *Hoya 49mm Skylight 1B *Hoya 49mm UV *Asanuma 55mm Skylight 1A *Promaster Spectrum 7 49mm Polarizer *Promaster Spectrum 7 49mm 1A *Promaster Spectrum 7 49mm +4 *Case for the filters -Tundra light meter with case -Vivitar Auto Thyristor 2600-D flash -Flash Bar -4 rolls film -cloth lens wipe -Cannon padded camera bag ***The above package has only had one owner, ME! I fished Sunday from 5am-11am from a boat. Water was off till after 9am I believe. Didn't catch but a few on grubs, swimmin minnows and jerkbaits. Then we began to see shad flickering on a flat and fish bustin top. So, my buddy and I had made some Alabama rigs up. He had fished them previously I had not. He tied one on and first cast hooked a 3lb largemouth. I followed suit without hesitation, had to try it. Game on!........A hit every cast, a lot of small fish and plenty of keepers mixed in. We wore that flat out and decided to look elsewhere. Not long after that they turned the water on and the fish turned on too. We flat wore them out on the A-Rig. We caught around 40 bass between the two of us and 4 keeper Walleye, biggest eye went bout' 5lbs and our best 5 bass was bout' 16lbs. All fish released to the water expect the 4 eyes which went to the grease! Not a bad day, and my hat's off to that darn A-Rig......................D

Gentlemen, Darren here from Harrison, AR. I'm no stranger to flyfishing or to Montauk state park but get there about once maybe twice a year if I'm lucky. I tend to inhabit the White, it's tributaries and Taneycomo. Anyway back to Montauk. I have trip planned for Oct. 19-24 with my best friend from Missouri and his family. Were doing the easy stay......30' camper rig in the park....LOL. I'm the flyfisher but my buddy is not so much, however I am there for the entertainment of all. So, that means I'm usually with him casting jigs 80% of the time and yes, the occasional powerbait. I'm always the guy in charge for tying all the jigs for the trip. I've been at the bench for weeks and well, some couple hundred jigs later here I am. I have graduated my buddy into flyfishing. He's still a newbie but making progress! We've always fished in the park, he's an old dog and set in his ways. He's learned the park to well....lol So, this is our first trip this late in the year. His wife has always been a summer weather gal. I've got him all jacked up about the brown spawn and the nice fish I'v been catching around my home waters night fishing. He wants to do it. So, I told him we can do this on the trophy waters outside the park while were at Montauk. HEREIN LIES MY PROBLEM......I'M IN UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY! CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A FEW ACCESS POINTS ON THE TROPHY WATER SECTION WHERE I CAN TAKE HIM TO STRIP SOME STREAMERS AT NIGHT. Any other tips/advice??? Maybe I can get him outside the park and teach him some true flyfishing. Thanks to all!.........D

Is Taneycomo Wadeable At 1 Unit.
troutgnat replied to yummysmokedham's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Can anyone clarify how many Mega Watts (MW) per unit??? Table Rock dam has 4 units with a total MW capacity of 230. So, 230/4 = 80. Does 80 MW mean 1 unit??? I never really knew for sure. Tomorrows generation states 40 MW's. Just exactly how many unit(s) is that? Thank you for whoever would like to contribute their insight.......D -
Well here's my report. I took my cousin and we scratched out about 20 keeper gills. We tried about 7 differant places and only caught them at two spots. I have always been a fan of boat docks next to pea gravel pockets. I fished my "money" spots where I've always caught them well before and only one had gills on it. I tried the 15ft range with a cricket on the bottom with minimal luck on several docks. We found one dock where we located a school on the backside inbetween dock and bank. They were in 7-9 ft of water and we had crickets under floats about 6-7ft deep. Another dock yielded about 6 nice gills under the walk-way in about 7 ft of water again. PS: If anyone would like to teach me how to catch em' 15-20ft on those main lake gravel flats I'm willing to learn. I'm listening!

Well heres the deal. Gages Marina is still in bad shape. Though probably not advisable there is one lane open for launching at the north end of the campground. Three of us launched there today. Be prepared to wear sandals or hip boots because you will need to wade out and move all the drift wood out of the way to launch and to trailer upon return. The water clarity is nice and stained in this area though I did not bass fish I was on a bluegill mission which was not that successful. PS: The main lake is pretty clear in this area but do be advisable of the occasional floating debris, it's still out there and some just under the surface and hard to see. I took on no boat damage but had to do some last second dodging several times.
