  1. Finally figure how to resize pictures, here are some from this float
  2. In the underwater pic I just had 8 pound trilene lowvis green tied to my fly.
  3. Can't beat the hospitality at Hog Heaven, we are going down this Wednesday and staying at Hog Heaven. What did you catch your fish on? Im glad your kids enjoyed it as much as mine do. I don't get to fish as much as like to when I take my boys down, and this weekend my nephew and father are going too. But if can help them all catch fish I will be happy, I have already caught plenty of fish this summer.
  4. Took my brother to the Little Niangua Friday and Saturday. My brother does not get to fish much and has not floated with me for over 10 years. He had a great time. I just gave him a bag of Strike King Bitsy tubes and he caught fish all weekend. We stayed at Cedar Camp. Friday we caught a bunch of fish above Cedar Camp, nothing of size but had a great time catching big numbers, must have got 50 fish. Saturday we floated below Cedar Camp, did not catch as many for some reason but we caught some bigger fish. It was my brothers first time kayaking, he tipped over in the first 5 seconds he put in, pretty hilarious, but never had a problem again after that. I caught some fish on my flyrod using a "popper and dropper" and caught quite a few on Yum Dingers fishing wacky style. Took him to the Little Niangua because he could not take off more time for work during the week and I knew the Little Niangua was about the only place to float on the weekend without a lot of canoe traffic. Im taking my two boys and nephew and father to the Elk this Wednesday. My dad is not a big fisherman either so I hope I can get him on some fish too. \

    8/1/10

How is the river level Ollie. I am bringing my two boys and father and nephew to Hog Heaven this week. Camping Wednesday and Thursday and heading home Friday before the crazy canoe traffic starts up on the weekend. I heard it is a little low, but we are floating kayaks. I brought my boys down the same time last summer and they are dying to get back. We caught a ton of fish last summer at this time, I hope I can get them on some more. My brother and I just got back from the little niangua this past weekend, it is about the only river you can float on a weekend and not fight a ton of canoes, we started early in the morning and only one group of canoes caught up to us. Im putting a post about the trip on the "other ozark waters" forum.
  6. My brother and I are floating and staying at Cedar camp this Friday and Saturday. I hope the river isn't miserably low right now. I caught a bunch of fish earlier this summer and promised to get my brother on some.
  7. I just got the same boat from Bass Pro because it was a good price. I have the same problem with the bottom, very flimsly and deforms easily. It is an Ascend isn't it?
  8. Hey Russ, My boys and I are about to wrap up the baseball season. We want to come down the first week of August, the 4th, 5th, and 6th. My dad and nephew want to come too. I will bring my kayaks and would like to get a couple of your jackson kayaks for my dad and nephew. Will you guys be there that week?
  9. Put in at Bannister Ford and floated 6 miles down to Fiery Fork Access. Took me 9 hours, fished slow and hard the entire way. The people at Cedar Camp were really nice to work with and shuttled me.
  10. Fished and floated all day this past Saturday. Would throw a tube when I was in my kayak and flyfished when I got out to wade. Had a great day, caught lots of little fish and a few nice ones, they all feel nice on the flyrod. Finally figured out a fly pattern of bouncing a lead eyed woolly bugger with rubber legs along the bottom, even caught two catfish doing that. Wanted to post some pictures but all my pictures are all slightly bigger than the 2MB max. Any suggestions how to get them on? Water conditions were really good, not to low, not to high, and clear.
  11. Besides the poaching and illegal bait fishing then they have to go and leave their trash. It kills me that people call themselves fisherman and then leave their trash behind. It really ticks me off when you walk up where some people have been fishing and every beer case and bait container is left behind.
  12. Hey guys, I am up in Kansas City and finally have a free weekend. We have had a lot of rain up here. Is the river in good shape. The weather for that area has shown chances of thunder storms all week and weekend, just checking to see if you have gotten some rain. Want to float and fish and would hate to show up to a chocolate river. Can someone let me know how it looks currently and if you think this weekend would be fine.l
  13. Want to purchase the Rio Clouser for my 7 wt. I cast a Cabelas LST. Would you guys recommend overlining to an 8 wt line or stick with the 7 wt. I like making long casts and Im worried I might get to much line sag on long casts with heavy flies, but notice a lot of guys over load one line weight to load the rod easier for short stuff.
  14. Hey Al, You over throw those streamers for your beloved river smallies of Missouri. Nothing better than smallies on the fly.
  15. Took my kayak out to Prarie Lea Lake which flows into Lake Jacomo. Used a small jig under a float on my fly rod and had a blast catching lots of little crappie and some green sunfish and bluegill. I have fished Prarie Lea since I could ride my bike out there and I am now 42 years old and the crappie never have gotten any bigger. Tiny fillets, but if you keep a limit you can make a meal of it.
  16. How often do any of you use a sink tip for smallmouth streams. I'm thinking of just keeping another rod rigged with a sink tip in my boat, but just wondering if you think it is necessary. I already keep too many rods in the boat as is. I have a popper rod, another flyrod rigged with a weighted streamer, and a spinning rod all in my kayak. And what sink rate would you choose, a type three or faster?
  17. The green sunfish in my opinion does not fight nearly as good for its size as a bluegill. The green sunfish and bluegill hybrid is a great looking fish and great fighter. But all the true green sunfish I catch fight for a few seconds and then just drag in. When bass fishing you do catch more green sunfish than bluegill because of their bigger mouth. They really do seem to take off and over populate quickly.
  18. Believe me I'm tempted. Still dreaming of buying a cabin on the river when I retire. May just do the next best thing and buy a pop-up camper and come down as much as possible until then. I will have some things payed off next year and will be in the situation to do that.
  19. Nice report guys. Still wrapping up the school year and track season, and my boy's baseball schedule has me completely booked up. Im dying to get down there, and so are the boys. May have to wait til school is out.
  20. They are great intertainment between the bass you catch and make a great fish fry too! Always fun on the fly rod, glad you had a good day.
  21. The blue cheese burger bombs are Redfish's recipe, but from what he told me he just adds one egg to each pound of beef and mixes it with blue cheese crumbles into some monster size patties. All he did was dig a hole in the gravel, pore in some charcoal, and place a grilling grate over it. The onion buns and beer make them taste even better. You are right, it was good fishing, good people, and good weather. I never had met or fished with these guys in my life but they heard about my tough luck on the Elk and even skipped work to take me fishing.
  22. Oh yah I enjoyed myself, you guys totally saved my trip. Redfish is not kidding, we caught over 200 fish easy. All you guys went out of your way to make sure I had a good trip and caught fish, I can't wait to come back. The blue cheese burger bombs were the best shore lunch I ever had. We got 7 inches of snow too, that is nuts that we were floating in shirt sleeves in 70 weather the day before. Glad I left that evening. Thanks again, tell the other guys thanks for me. I tried attaching some pictures but the attachment "thingy-mu-jiggy" said they max attachment is 2 MB and all my pictures are over 2 MB.
  23. Hi Red and Russ This is Craig from the river clean up late last summer. I have next week off. I am paying attention to the weather and looking for a couple of nice days to come down next week to fish and stay. Is your camp ground open next week Russ. I would love to float the Little Sugar, I have never been on it. Doesn't Scotty live over there. Maybe we could all get together.

By the way Redfish, what are you paddling now. I brought my Ultimate 12 down last time and Russ said you were interested in looking at those boats.

    Fishing

I hope things warm up and the fish start biting. I teach 3 hours north in Lee's Summit and have spring break in two weeks and plan on coming down to fish and float if the weather is decent. Last time I was down there was late last summer after Labor Day for the clean-up. I heard you were planning on coming to the clean-up Redfish but were recovering from your 40th birthday party. I remember how crappy I felt after my 40th. Keep us posted on the fishing.
