    Blow Out

    2600 cfs, WTF?
  3. Thanks also to you Al, great info you guys are sharing. I also agree that the Current trout get 'hit' alot, lotsa fisherman, especially Saturdays.
  4. Thanks for the advice Gavin.
  5. 2 1/2 lb. and 3 lb., 20", that's works for me, cancelling out the long stretches of no activity. Interesting the Current was off and the 11 Point and N. Fork were 'on' on the 19th, according to the posts. Thanks for the info Al. Monitoring the levels this week, more rain on Thursday. Such a terrible tease, the sultry Current...
  6. Below Tan Vat is good, the run w. the log running parallel, south bank; farther down where it's a short, fast riffle, then deep, and, past that one, along the rocks/trees on north bank, and... There's a lot of good water, but as we are learning, it takes the right choice, method, and presentation to hook up. Still learning...
  7. Now I feel very inadequate...we fished that day also. Guess we needed more weight also, cuz we were throwing nymphs too. Our flies were probably zooming right over the trout's heads. Read and learn...once again from Gavin and Al.
  8. Welcome, try the N. Fork also.
  9. Did you read the other post from Brownieman? Some do well in the high water. I've had mixed results. I used a sink tip during high water, slightly off color, with some success. The weather was cooperative for me, warming up. I've also fished with high water and unsettled weather to not much success. In both cases fishing was off. It seems only a few have mastered the high water. I used big streamers on the first time mentioned, and heavy, weighted stonefly nymph w. glo bug dropper on the second time. Did you fish the slack water, out of the main, fast flows? It's tough fishing anyway you try it. Of course I've read guys who throw big lures do well.
  10. 191 cfs flow right now, probably higher when the new reading comes up in a few.
  11. Present, accounted for, etc.
  12. You'll hook one. One day all the aspects will come together. I'm a believer in weather being a great equalizer of fishing. If the weather is right, and your presentation of fly is fair/good, you'll hook up. Weather also throws a big kink into a good fishing area. Another good thing about this sport is the choice of flies you can use, and their respective methods to fish them. You can a fish a certain fly differently and hook up. You can also change a fly a certain way and be successful. Of course, you have to get the tying bug for that. Then, you are truly obsessed/addicted/hooked/sprung etc.
  13. Welcome, and do check the threads for advice. Crane Creek, though a tough fish, is a fairly short drive. One tip: learn to mend line. I'm still learning, but have improved. You'll find yourself down the road of flyfishing wondering how you got so far in skills/knowledge, yet, a long road is still in front of you. That's just one of the appealing aspects of flyfishing.
  14. Wow, still on #6's. Thanks for the info.!
  15. Good work GA! What size stone fly, #8, #10?
  16. Great job guys! I've yet to be successful there. My fishing bud hit the Crane two weeks ago and caught a lot of 7-10" 'bows, who, hopefully, will grow up. It's great to see that there are some fish of size in the creek.
  17. Yeow! Excellent rainbows!
  18. Tough going for my fishing bud and me. He got skunked on Thursday, his first time on the Current for that. On Friday we worked down from Baptist. I tried various small streamers and only got a few turns/short follows, nothing of size. My friend caught only two, and one was on for only 2-3 seconds, but he was a big brown, 18"+ and bright gold. He was pissed to lose that fish. We took a break at midday and worked up from Tan Vat. He caught another 12" brown. I was in the deepish run above the boulders and hooked a 12" 'bow on a zebra Copper John, when my partner yelled at me. His rod was bent over and he was being led downstream. I release my fish and hustled down with my net. He brought a fat 16"-17" brown to the net on a Pheasant Tail. That kinda made up for losing the big one earlier. He caught 4 that day, and I managed 3. The fishing would pick up when the weather would warm, then slow down when it would cloud over, rain, and get chilly windy. It will probably be much better today and early in the week, when I can't fish...
  19. That fly is a go-to one. Another variation is a #16 Zebra Copper John, silver bead. Did you cast in above or below the deadfall? My fishing bud nailed a fish every time we were above there for a bunch of trips, you know the glide just upstream from there. He knows how to read water much better than me. So where's the pic of the big 'bow?

  21. I've fished both those holding pools and have only gotten one out of the upper one where the river turns from the park, I used a big stonefly that my wife bought for me in CO. After catching that one I promptly snagged up on the bottom and lost it. I've seen big boys stacked up in there. I fished the first pool out of TV also, but no dice. They were rising to tiny Tricos, sipping. It was cool to watch, and a guy lent me a fly who was camped there, but no go. He yanked a 4 lb. bow out of there early that morning. He said they shut down at about 8AM or so. Last Sunday a spin angler got one out of there. It was really bending his outfit down when I looked down at them. I was fishing down from TV. A report is coming soon...
  22. That brown is some fish...I covet...
  23. Sooner or later we will all cross paths. Your bud could have given me a little more room but I'm cool. That was a beautiful day like you said. Only wish I could have gotten into more fish. Went out last Sunday and got three, 16" brown the top one. He was injured, but feisty. He had punctured gill plate that was healing. I've caught a lot of injured fish the last year on the Current. Trying again soon. Some of your spin fishing brethren were above me at Tan Vat and I saw one guy fighting a trout at the first deadfall.
  24. Ease up on us Jeremy! Just kidding, walleye's are mean-looking fish. What did he hit? Do I have to guess, a CP?
  25. Thanks Brian, my fishing buddy and our families were thinking about coming to Greer and would also like updates on the river conditions. Camping possibly, upper 30's at night, bring the warm sleeping bags...
