  1. I agree with the Crackleback, watched a fellow from STL land a nice brown with one twitched in a calm spot.
  2. Ask Brian R. or Kyle K., they're the 'experts.'
  3. Flashback PT, BH or standard, 16; scud, rainbow, olive, gray, 16; Pat's rubber legs, rust/black or olive/black chenille, 8; Rainbow Warrior or Primrose & Pearl, 18, 16; Copper John, amber copper, copper, zebra, 16. Giving away my 'secrets' Not much help w. dries. Also have had luck w. a Slump Buster, black squirrel w. rainbow sparkle braid, nickel cone, 8, on cloudy days. Your SJW's are also good choices. Good luck!
  4. Excellent reporting Gavin. Love the campsite meal w. beverages after a long day of fishing. I want to fish the 11 Pt. this fall.
  5. I didn't realize you were from WA! I bet it's nice in Seattle, remembering a time I cruised from L. Washington to Lake Union with an old high school friend of mine on a 80's + Saturday. Been here 4 years in August. I fished lakes on the Yakama rez with flies on a spin rod before going with the fly rod exclusively. I hope I'm successful. These lakes get hit pretty hard with hardware and bait, but we used to do well with a certain fly I developed a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
  6. Solid day that ended with a ripping storm. Been wanting to fish Parker so I started just below the creek, in the riffle with the new, brown dead tree hanging over. Got a 'bow on a rubber legs then a small brown, missed at least three. The river was way down, lowest I've seen in awhile, and clear. Hustled up to the campsite and hit the horse trail. You guys that fish here know the first nice hole with the bluffs. That hole produced, fished a copper brown CJ w. #16 midge droppers, switching between dark olive, red, black. Six 'bows and 2 browns out of that hole, including the big shouldered fellow in the pic. Beautiful colors on the rear of this brown. Great AM and headed to Tan Vat for a break. Walked downstream to 'The Wall'. Met another fisherman there. I saw him catch one above me, more than me, skunked. The Wall that produced so well a few weeks ago shut me down. Big, nice 'bows feeding on something in the film. No discernible insect activity. Couldn't get any love for any fly combo. Headed up above Tan Vat. Low river conditions in the rocks. No love again with the 2 fly rigs so I went to a small olive pine squirrel craw and the nice 'bow slammed it in the main riffle/spill of boulder run. Unfortunately a snagged up and lost it. Tried another 'fancier' craw with no pay off. Moved up to the next deeper hole and a #8 black Slump Buster paid off again. That fly's been working fairly well this season. Moved up the deep run/turn and saw a bunch of fish podded up. Hiked above them and crossed to fish from the opposite bank. Rubber leg CJ and midge combo paid off with several 'bows and another slim brown. The sky turned dark and rumbly and I hustled back up the trail to the parking lot to get a little wet just as I got to the car. Tired and happy with this great river, the Current. We are very lucky here in MO. Heading over to WA next week to hook up with my boys and camp/fish the E. Cascades, mostly lake fishing. Will also hit the Yakima while I'm there.
  7. First time on this river and success was fairly good. The Jedi's new canoe had it's maiden voyage, she did well. Caught some fish, saw some beautiful country. My fishing bud has advised me all through and got me back into this sport-obsession. He had a tough day fishing, which we've all had. He normally out-lands me 2-1 at least. The cliche holds, 'it's fishing, not catching.' The 11 Pt. was not kind to him. Those of you who fish the 11 Pt. know this first place, turning left at the first island down from Greer. Fished the #8 rubber leg stone w. copper john dropper. Had a hit quickly, then landed a decent 'bow by the downed tree before the turn. Another long deep drift brought a solid fish, felt big, not a monster but at least 16". He was on only about 4 seconds and shook me. We fished around the corner and I landed 3 in about 20 minutes on both CJ and RL. Fished down the end of the island. In the run on the left downstream from the island I hooked another nice one temporarily. Hard for me to hook up downstream after a long drift below me. Great hole there. We moved down, pulling off, fishing, going back in. Can't say the locations, but I did land one in the boulders right below Mary Decker Shoal(?) The Jedi eventually landed one from the canoe and then another. Yours truly, the padawan got 7 total and lost at least 4, Rubber legs and copper johns, couldn't get any love from the other flies I tried. Fished the next morning solo upstream from Greer under the bridge. The nice riffle 1/4 mi. or so up produced this nice 15" bow on a streamer creation I tied. Great river and I will be back in the Fall.
  8. Nice work! 40+ is a stellar day. The Current is truly special.
  9. Thanks Brian, the Jedi, myself, and our familias are heading down to the 11 Pt. on Friday. He's camping at Greer and we're staying at Mark Twain Lodging. Thanks for the fly recommendations, our first time as well. Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.
  10. Hit Tan Vat Sun. morning, May 30 fairly early to beat crowds of anglers that didn't materialize. Started with some streamers and got a long, crazy follow and a short strike by a nice 'bow. Switched over to normal 2 nymph rig under indicator and caught a beautiful 14" brown, jumped three times before landing. My fishing bud, the Jedi, once again out fished me, numerous feisty rainbows. Worked up the the boulders catching 3 'bows and missed a couple right above in the deep run. Took a short lunch break after walking to the parking area which was filling up with folks on the gravel and playing in the water. Smart move to walk downstream on the trail and work back. Fished the long, rock wall with a couple of boulders and had non-stop action, numerous fighting 'bows, 10-14". Made a super long drift with a rubber legs and small, shiny nymph below and this beautiful 18" brown smacked the rubber legs. Worked back with just a few fish. Solid day, off-color water was up. Fishing the PM hours later this week. Used scuds, PT's, shiny lightning bug type flies and rubber legs. Jedi used his normal flies that shall remain nameless, but extremely effective. I joined the bandwagon and have tied some to match his.
  11. Nice report. I haven't fished that far below Baptist yet. There's great runs/holes there. Going soon.
  12. Great report, gonna be crowds this weekend. Excellent that the river is off color still.
  13. It's actually a BPS net, not sure what brand, not White River. Not as pricey as a Ghost Net. It's a little heavy for my holder/magnet. Probably have to get a stronger one. I got tired of using my old mesh net and getting flies caught in it.
  14. Fixed the pictures, too big.
  15. The picture is worth...you know the rest. Hoping to get to the N. Fork again, eventually. A real nice brown, good work Brian.
  16. Awesome that you caught the strike on video. Nice work.
  17. Help! Show the video, please....
  18. As reported before, a solid day Sunday with slightly cloudy river that was a bit up. Caught numerous stockers, a few hold overs and a 'bow and brown both at 16". Another highlight from the trip was seeing predatory behavior by two browns and two smallies. First one in Upper Tan Vat heading up into the boulders. Cast across and hooked a little 10" stocker bow. Stripped him back across and a 20" brown appeared out of nowhere to chase/circle the bow. Of course I lead the poor stocker around a bit, trying to get the brown to hit it. He didn't. Then, later that day downstream from Baptist, another 18" or so brown tried frantically to chomp a sculpin in front of me in the gravel. I put on a Slump Buster, but couldn't get anyone to commit. Then, farther downstream, changing flies, a big, ugly smallie almost nailed a sculpin in front of me, swimming almost into my leg. Kinda startling because of the cloudy water, and big, dark, fat fish, not a trout. These pics aren't that great but enjoy. Scuds, PT's, my own caddis pupae/larva ties, and my hot fly as of late, hate to give this up , a Rainbow Warrior variation of mine. Great river...can't wait to come back in a few weeks.
  19. Dang! Nice pics, excellent trout. Ease up on us, OK boys! Your pics make mine look really bad. Will try to post tonight.
  20. You boys from OK did well, OKFF44. I hooked up with a 16" brown below Baptist on a caddis pupa/larvae tandem and quite a few hold over rainbows. The river was in great condition, off-color and a little higher. I'm going to try a trip soon for an afternoon. Working for the US Army at Ft. Wood has me less than an hour from Tan Vat. It is truly a great river, the Current. It was great meeting all the fisherman on Sunday. Everyone was upbeat and had success either on Sat. or Sun. Tried some prototype nymphs that worked well. Back to the tying desk. Pics soon.
  21. Some industrious person bucked up the tree crossing the river downstream from Baptist. Still have to walk your water craft through but it's better. Fishing report tomorrow. Solid day at Tan Vat and downstream from Baptist today.
  22. Nice report, heading down, finally, this weekend. Wish I was fishing it today--cloudy, a bit humid...hopefully will hook up on some fish.
  23. Beautiful brown! It seems the fish are bigger this year, hopefully from everyone releasing or mostly releasing. Off-color water is the best IMO, clear water really tries your skills. Still got a couple of weeks until I can come down. It's great when a fellow angler will help you out with landing a fish.
  24. Stay home. Yesterday would have been the day. You'll probably catch a few, but the conditions aren't favorable. Just my two cents..
  25. Excellent reports gentlemen. (I use that term loosely.) Nice to hear the code was cracked. Wish I could get back sooner. Have to just keep tying.
