When you say " caught two crappie on the pointer ", does that mean on the first hook of a fore and aft hooked bait ? Like the crappie hit the bait up front ? I'm kinda new to learning bass-speak. Thanks - Brian

What a weird situation.. and now conflicting stories about the guy in question. Where did all this come from ? Is a similar topic posted on here.... ? No one deserves to be ridiculed for fishing a dock. Pro Bass guys do it.. whats the deal ? confused - Brian

Pontoon boat rack design (low-tech)
Brian K. Shaffer replied to ecce38's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
That is a great set up! Is it permanent ? Not that that would be a bad thing.. I still like them pontoons ya got there... is the frame from black bear as well ? We need to hook up and go boating together someday.... best fishes - Brian -
You remember what he was driving ? That might help narrow the search. This reminds me.. I was with friends (yeah Jeremy was there) on a trout fishing trip to TN.. and we were up in the lot prior to the walk down.. talking to a couple.. then they left. Well the husband left behind a William Joseph vest of some sort.. and I remember watching the car drive off.. giving a little wave.. then seeing that they had left something behind. So I walk over and pick it up. We took it to a local fly shop.. and one of the guys in my party drops his business card. They kept it there for a year.. then sent it to the cards address... which wasnt me. Long story short.. I did the right thing. But I didnt squat. best fishes - Brian

? Guess this fly game ?
Brian K. Shaffer replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
1. Mating Scud 2. Turcks Tarantula 3. Trico 4. Beadhead Prince I wanted to put " some variation " in front of 3 of those. The only one I know for sure is the Mating Scud pattern. The 2nd fly is some form of the Tarantula pattern.. is it a stone version ? The third fly is probably named by the material used for the wings.. just can't see it well. The 4th fly has to be a beadhead prince.. .. Nice ones Kyle - keep them coming! Only wierd thing is your pics do not show up whenever someone would respond back.. do you know how to put them in using that little picture of the tree on the ?? -
New skins are now working!
Brian K. Shaffer replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Messages for, and from, the Admin
Phil - any suggestions for me ? If I delete the cookies set by this board it sends me the Papyrus skin but I get logged out.. and when I log in it takes me to the old blue style which is giving me headaches. The BOARD FOOTER text is right where the Default Skin selector used to be. hmmm - Brian -

How to tie up a dropper?
Brian K. Shaffer replied to CaptainT16's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
mizzou - using both point and dropper flies as barbless helps a little.. but I gotta agree that using a 2 fly rig and netting up the trout can be a pain captT16 - like mizzou, I generally will use a scud or sowbug pattern below an indicator with a midge or wormish pattern below it / on accasion I will use the dry and midge dropper.. but most of the time I find my self using the sowbug / worm rig best fishes - Brian -
Howdy Joe - pull up a chair.. nice to have you. screaming reels - Brian

Midge Patterns
Brian K. Shaffer replied to mizzouflyfisher's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Kyle - check this out : Chironomids Also - I will try the JuJuBee with the crinkly stuff and see how it works out. The article in Fly Fisherman shows the material as straight.. totally straight.. not a crink in it. So I guess he did pull on it to get the crinks out.. but I have heard mention of a straight version. Anybody got a Spirit catalog ? Check that link above.. some neat BC midges are listed at the bottom. happy tying - Brian -

Sow Bug Round Up - Mountain Home
Brian K. Shaffer replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
I'll be there - wearing a long billed Simms hat / glasses with some flies in it. More than likely, I will spend most of my time casting.. and staring at tiers. See you there - Brian -
Anyway, the vise ain't no good sitting there, so get to tying. Thats pretty funny.. and a good word to the wise. There are many advantages to tying on true rotary vises.. and when you get one.. you just know. Refer to any of Jeremy Hunts pictures in his tying pages here, as he is tying on one of the best - a Dyna King.. notice in these pictures how often the vise angle is turned.. ever so slightly sometimes.. it makes a huge difference in material placement. The rotary option makes any tier a better tier. I tied on a Thompson fixed head for 8 years. Then I could afford rotary.. so I made the switch. I especially like all options the rotary vise provides. screaming reels - Brian

One year at R/R - I saw a very young angler have a nice fish on.. following the first few moments after the whistle.. so this young angler has a good fish.. and almost in succession 8 other anglers threw over his line. He was immediately aware of this and knew what was about to happen, as his line was getting all wrapped up and now being pulled in a different direction.. so finally his line breaks.. now he is left with nothing. The other anglers just kept on fishing like nothing even happened. I stepped back out of the way and got in my truck slowly and drove far, far away. Brian

Midge Patterns
Brian K. Shaffer replied to mizzouflyfisher's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
See if you can figure this one out - the JuJuBee midge. Charlie Craven's Ju Ju Bee Midge If you have seen this one in the magazine.. he is using some kind of straight material.. and the only kind that I can find in the world is all crinkled up. I can't figure it out. Brian -
So Sims, how did you do ? Where did you go ? Did you slay them or what ?? Did you get a chance to make it by Phil's place ? best fishes - Brian

? Guess this fly game ?
Brian K. Shaffer replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Dano and all - 1. Joe Humphrey's Cress Bug (similar to scuds & sowbugs) 2. Parachute Adams 3. Flesh Fly 4. Blue Charm 5. Tungheadds Pheasant Tail The fly hook in question is listed on the O/A site under recipes as the Thread Midge.. but the hook listed is wrong. I believe the hook shown is a 2487.. but it says to tie it on a TMC200R.. -

" I've never done well fishing the upper river, from Ponca to Pruitt.. " I wonder .. cause I have floated / fished this stretch too.. does it fish less than stellar because it is one of the areas where a lot of people put in and take out on float trips most often ? The Buffalo is a gem.. Brian
