time to tie up some 8 inch brown trout streamer patterns, thanks for the info
-
If I remember correctly it used to be around this time of year. Thank you very much.
-
For sure stay on the River. That's what it's all about Brother! To get away from people.
-
It don't matter just fish!
-
LOL Yeah, fish the meramec. J/k Good luck to you, water should be great.

"I counted 13 between Tan Vat and the end of the park on Friday." WoW 13 Anglers. That has to be a new record.
-
You will find more trout closer to the park, but more anglers:-) I would float baptist to cedar. Flies almost anything presented well, in nice water will do. Try dead drifting or swinging soft hackles, did well a couple weeks ago for me. Streamers mornings and evenings. Small nymphs, #18 seem to work well in the winter. OH yeah don't forget olive scuds, they work everywhere:-) Scudz rule! Have Fun

Very nice, that's a very pretty brown. I had meant to be get down there yesterday, but ended up on the Meramec instead. Nice fish Nortrad, nice looking Fly also. How did you do on the Meramec ozark? Charlie Cravin FTW!!!!

Luckily for me and you the truth cant be bought.

i've been doing well drifting stoneflies and softhackles in fast water.

i have nothing against the angler who caught the fish. it's a great fish, big enough to feed a family for weeks. i was just making an observation on how the world "river" is perceived differently these days. sure, i get it.. a river is merely water functioning as kinetic energy in the everlasting roll downstream. Yet in my head the Current River starts at Tan Vat and works it way down. Everything upstream from the point of the setting sun has become too much like the park i.e. hatchery for me. i was simply making a connection between the differences in mindsets. doesn't make me right and you wrong, or vice versa. i appoligize for myself, the sun of scudz because i know that there is nothing good that comes from the mind of someone consumed with ego and arrogance. i was caught up in a moment of a condescending haze of anger, for that i will pay not by your judgement, but rather by thine own self.

It was my son that posted that gavin. Sorry to the guy that caught that beast, it rules. And yes gavin, I have been a little touched in the head.

I know this lady who fishes down there all the time, she has one eye and three teeth and she dresses herself in the color of the fading light. She told me that mousin is a waste of our time, especially on the current at night.

I was down on the current this weekend as well. I noticed two things early on our trip, one, there were big fish to be had. Two, there wasn't any insect activity to name. What's a fly angler to do? Break out the streamer rod! Break out the meatiest patterns you can tie. The triumvirate for me on this trip was, marabou, rabbit, and a sink tip. I caught rainbows, rolled large browns and finally ended up landing one at 9pm on our last evening out. i'll post a picture of the brown if you want proof.

I would like to than Gavin, Notrad, Ozark Trout fisher, and OKFlyFisher44 for their nice comments. I think those are the only ones that I have gotten in this forum, kinda nice for a change. That rainbow was caught not far below the Park, with one of my sons Sculpin Flies he tied. He somehow kept it out of the tree wad he caught it in. Estimated 7 lbs, by measurements. As you can see it "GOT GUT". He released it, so now it's probably about 8-10 lbs, so go catch that slob:-) We usually try to fish the current at least once every month of the year. That's one advantage of a Spring Creek, it can be fished year round. We like our fires as much as fishing. We usually walk in to camp on the river. The pic is from our last trip, our TWO-Headed Fire. :on-fire2: Peace fellow Anglers. http://hatchesmagazine.com/blogs/hatchestest/2010/01/15/the-chubby-muffin-by-nick-granato/ A real nice Sculpin Pattern JMO.. can be tied with different head, I like the spun Craft Fur. I prefer more olive and tanish, like our Sculpins in MO. Markers are a great thing to add to your tying kit. It's easy to tie, and looks great in the water.

Ok, I fixed the error. it won't be my last :=D:

Man give me a break. you know I meant 22". As gavin would say " I was with John Barleycorn." Can you please explain your "winning, Duh post. It's ok if it's bad, or a put down, I just don't understand where your coming from? It seems by your 2 posts, you don't like me, that's cool. I'm an Angler, not a English Professor. Never have liked how people attack others in a Forum, for mis spelt words, or poor grammar. You can PM it to me if you like. Sincerely, Scudz

WINNING, DUH!!! No coprende? I'm a lil slow, sorry. Did you mean Whining? ROFLMAO

Give yourself some credit dude, it's not all luck. Gavin uses a method known by many, Big Stick baits. I was doing it in Montana in the 70's and 80's, caught many nice Browns. It comes down to a matter of choice for each Angler. About a year ago I did a test. I went down from Tan Vat with stick baits. I did catch some nice browns, BUT, I personally would much rather catch one 18+ plus on a Fly Rod, than a few on short rod. JMO. Stick baiting is legal, it's much easier than fly Fishing, but to me, not near as rewarding. so I use Fly's , so what? I'm not saying I'm better than anyone else. I used lures for years. Just my choice. Once I hooked the Fish 20+ inches, with a lure, it was over, fish in net, no problem. A 22"+ on a Fly rod? You have to experience to understand. Bottom line, less big browns in Current. My son and I used to catch several nice fish with Fly's in the early 90's, right below Tan Vat, and we were noobs. We even did it with bait fisherman in the holes. Read MDC Shock reports, they even admit the truth. Read the facts. It's all on the Internet. Research, MDC reports. The browns are smaller, and less numerous than ever. They say it's the spring flooding, river otters, poachers, etc etc. Just hope it gets back to where it was, so others can experience what some of us older Current Anglers had. So if anyone needs to complain, complain to the MDC. It's their job, not ours. and if you ask me, they are doing a terrible job.

Why use my post for your point? I'm all for killin in Montauk. SCUDZ says "Why not just go to the park to get your meat Gavin??" To me that looks like I'm cool with it trizkid? Did you even read it?

I come from way back then. I had nothing to do with it. I was born with the blood. It was a gift. I come from German Immigrants. To "ME" Browns are Loch Leven, to YOU they are sheep creek fish. to each their own. I was just voicing "MY" opinion Kayser. If the first Browns were Loch Leven, AKA "German Browns", how can any Brown Trout anywhere not be related???? Can you explain that? Kinda like we are all decedents of Adam and Eve. Or I am anyway. JMHO.. That's why I release my Browns, to make the Current River a better Brown Trout Stream. If I want to eat fish, I go to the park where they are put in to harvest. The Browns below the park are stocked with the hopes of becoming a trophy trout. An 18" Brown is a small trophy, I feel it would help the Current to change it to 22" JMHO. Just sayin... P.S The Current River is NOT a Freestone River. LOL It comes from Springs. All our trout water is Spring fed, even the NFOTW. No snow covered Mountains in Missouri that i see. And if they were a little warmer we would not have Trout in MO, I am truly grateful for the cool water. My link A few fish pics. The Cutthroat was caught on Spring River in CO. 14 caddis The Musky was caught a few days ago by my son, on a Fly he tied the Night before. They are called the fish of 10,000 casts. They are especially tough on the Fly. That was our first attempt at the Musky. I used bait caster and hard baits, no fish.. He is quite the angler. I am very proud of him. Peace
