    Whatchya Drinking?

All this talk about silver tequilas and how bad Cuervo Gold is. Can't say I know the good, but it ain't bad.

Try this stuff -- it's a good 'gateway' wine.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Diet Snapple Half & Half at the moment. I think I agree with you on the Vodka -- I've sampled a few I end up going back to McCormick's. Someday I'll buy some Grey Goose, then save the bottle and refill it with McCormick's Gins -- they're all different, and I tend to bounce around. Agree on the Cabs too -- just too tannic for me. I favor the Pinot Noirs but also have an old vine Zin on my favorites list. Had an excellent Norton from Stonehaus Farms winery in Lee's Summit, MO the other day. Going back for more of that! I avoid Chardonnays because they're usually over-oaked for me, plus I just like Reisling and Gerwurztraminer whites better -- if they're not too sweet. If you like the Oktoberfests, you might like the KC Bier Company Dunkel I opened this thread with. Not an O, but similar. It's on tap in a ton of bars and restaurants in KC, so it might be down your way by now.

I grabbed Cuervo Gold because this was just an experiment. Not really a tequila connoisseur.

    Whatchya Drinking?

I don't drink margaritas out much because they give me indigestion, but I do like them. So I got to thinking and reading up on recipes, and decided that it's probably the sweet/sour mix or the pre-made mixes that do it to me because lime juice or limeade don't bother me at all. My newly-minted 21-year-old twin boys were coming over for dinner last night, so I decided I'd give it a go. Limeade from frozen concentrate, Cuervo and Triple Sec. Lime rubbed on the rim, dipped in Kosher salt, 1-ounce tequila, 1/2-ounce Triple Sec, 1-ounce limeade. The boys thought they were too strong, so I upped it to two ounces limeade for them. On the rocks, not frozen. Nothing spectacular, but pretty good and I didn't have to reach for the Tums. If limes weren't 2-fer-a-buck, I'd maybe try it with fresh lime juice. Shoulda squeezed some in anyway, but didn't.

  9. So, what are you saying? I do it that way...but it works way better with a left hand retrieve. ?
  10. I really wonder about the long-term viability of this whole business model. I mean, is there anybody who cares left that hasn't been into a BPS or Cabela's and oohed and ahhed at all stuff there is to see in there? After that, what's the point? The fudge? The stores never carry as much stuff as the websites do. More than once I've been disappointed when going in for a purchase only to find they don't have it there at all, or my size wasn't available. From the comfort of my toilet (sorry) I can research, read reviews, compare prices and buy -- then have a guy drive over to my house and place it on my doorstep in a few days. Yeah, I know you don't buy boats that way. And some folks gotta touch and feel before they buy. But I just don't go in those stores very often and wonder why folks will continue to. I'll admit the Cabela's near me is always pretty busy when I screw up and have to go in there for a last-minute purchase. Especially the gun counter. I just wonder how long these massive brick-and-mortar stores will continue to be a destination for people. I'm sure Johnny has given this more thought than me. And, for the record, I am not now, and never was, bashing the man. I don't know a thing about him. Just looking at it from the business perspective.
  11. Out of the oven and ready for a long winter's nap. A little rum will help them sleep As Tom Petty said, 'The waiting is the hardest part.' We'll wake them up a week or so before Christmas. Smells pretty dang good in here right now ?
  12. 2016 is in the oven! Lotsa fruit, and not the candied kind: Chopped it up and soaked it in dark rum for a few days: Butter, brown sugar, flour, molasses, cinnamon, eggs, milk, etc.: Doing mini loaves again this year:

    What's Cooking?

I think Sadie might enjoy a day in the subdivision. Bring her up. No pressure, no duties, no critters. Just couches and doggy treats, or the occasional bit of people food. Just a little warning if you're coming: My dawg Max occasionally humps without permission. But I guess that's ok, at least according to what I'm hearing lately.

Geez Marty, gimme some credit. I walked several hundred yards to bag those pheasants. And after driving back home I hoofed it another hundred feet or so from the car to pick up that basket of mushrooms at the store. Then I drove over to the liquor store and walked all the way to the back for the Marsala. That's foraging in the suburbs ?

    What's Cooking?

Had the day off and went to a game preserve to warm up for the bird season. Brought home 2, about a third of what I should have. Made a quick pheasant stock from the bones. Browned the breasts, added flour then Marsala and the stock. Braised the breasts with mushrooms. Finished with a knob of butter and a little sugar. Served it over rice. These guys did most of the work, and enjoyed some of the spoils.
  17. I'veheard that before. And, as much as I dislike the way politicians work, I kinda like that. I wonder if he had really already made the announcement and it was in the papers. My tummy tells me no..

  20. The problem comes from bounced checks or rejected ACH payments. Those payees will want to charge you a bounced check or late fee, and good luck getting them to waive them. And your bank won't help you with that. Then there's the hassle factor.

Ok, Witness and Seabiscuit. Love both of those. 'It's not our way...' 'Its MY way!' Got no Seabiscuit quote, but it's a great story and a very well done movie. Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper (KC native) are a couple sure things in my book. October Sky is a goodun with Cooper. My baby boys, who turned twenty-freakin-one today, loved that movie.
