  1. Ham, Thanks for the info! It did not add up that the portion of the creek that ends up flowing into the karst rock would hold the ecosystem that would hold the bigest fish.
  2. I had one just about that size on crooked come up and break water hitting my Rapala jerk. Pulled me up and down the hole in the canoe. Finally got to the bank and it was like watching Marlin fishing. Fight and drag, fight and drag. Finaly the line gave in.
  3. The removal of gravel does increase the amoun of sediment clogging the gravel beds needed for nests. These sediments also increase the production of oxygen depleting vegetation.
  4. Can anyone shed light on the creek past yelville? Accesses points, distance till the creek goes under ground, and do the generic tourist info ring true about BIGER fish being bellow Yelville?
  5. Probably good wade fishing with the low rainfall. Tips and pointers. I usualy fish 6lb mono. Lasted year I overnighted on the creek and respolled to 10lb. Larger cranks were great in october. My best advice is do not assume the depth of a hole by the normal teriegn clues. Much of the bedrock has eroded qualities. I'm no geologist but from what I can gather it looks as thought the limestone has eroded faster than the sandstone creating big pockets inside what in many streams would be of averae depth.
  6. 70 + fish on Crooked Creek last weekend

  7. I agree I spent the weekend on CC for the first time on that water. WOW i got Jimmy's contact from a fellow sport angler. Now my good friend who is also a fellow ozark brown bass aficionado is going in a couple days. While on the river I only saw three anglers. They were all catch and release anglers. I am very proud of Jimmy for promoting the release of fish. He told me about how he convinced a guy from Oklahoma that you only need pictures and measurements of a fish to make a mount these days. Leave it to us Arkansans to have to teach okies a thing or two about fishing!
  8. Marble on the upper part of the river you can wade in normal water
  9. I once was wading the Kings River just outside of Marble Ar. When I had that feeling like someone was following me. After a couple of pauses and quick turns I continued to not see what I heard behind me. I for sure thought I had a hungry black bear at my six. Through a shoal and around a bend on a flat I heard a splashing charge in the water directly behind me. When I turned around I was looking eye to eye with a solid white Alpaca, or Lama. Scared the crap out of me. Once I got done scaring the crap out of him the thing became so friendly I had to try hard to loose the guy. I have also on the kings just before Marshals Ford my buddy and I were floating from Marble when we heard a tukie tukie too sounding bird then a man appeared on the ridge of the north bluff yelling franticly. We finally chalked it up to a troublesome tropical bird pet.
  10. WOW! Great purchase! I got the canoe in the fall. The couple of floats I have taken it on have left me confident that i made the right choice. Smooth stable ride. Tracks great with one or two people. Plenty of room for gear. Light weight for solo portage.
  11. New to the OA. Grew up on the west fork of the white (above Beaver). Put many miles on the Illinois, Kings, Buffalo, and all the creeks around. I grew up with a glass fly rod and poper bugs. It wasn't until me teens that I started using ultralight gear. Now I deviate between the both rods on many of my float trips.
