I never go that big either. 1/0-3/0 for 3-6inch shad 3/0 to 4/0 on the 7 inch plus, and much over 7 I add a treble stinger. And I prefer offset octopus to circles

We ran into one nice fish today north of 12 bridge and found a big school of undersized spots that wanted to eat. Water clear from about beaver shores and north. Temps 46-49 in that area. Bait easy to find in the back of creeks

We have been dragging live shad, and caught our best fish on lead lines with 6inch swimbaits. Also been throwing rigs and swimbaits up on points. Fish caught in less than 22fow

Have fished since Friday evening. Chasing stripers and have mostly fished monte ne area to beaver shores , but have been all the way up to no go on war eagle today and up around deer island a few days ago. Have 3 stripers for our effort with biggest going only 13.8. Did weigh one for a few guys they had caught on a flicker shad in monte at 31lbs, nice looking fish. Going to take tomorrow off and go into town then back to campsite at horseshoe until Saturday. Right now water is murky way up war eagle and muddy from 12 to horseshoe and further north but not sure where it ends. Water temps as low as 42 on Friday, most everything up around 50 today, as high as 56 way up river.

I am about 10 days out from coming up to spend a week chasing the stripes, hope we get some steady and warming weather. Last two years it has snowed on my mid march trips.

Just heard the same storm that dropped the massive tornado in Moore is overtop of beaver lake right now. Everything well? Moore is a disaster

I used the Hickory Creek corp ramp last Friday and it was fine. Lots of fish in the rivers, along with bait, but the snow had cooled the water down 10 degrees over 5 days, sure they will turn on at anytime.

I am headed that way tomorrow from western OK, will be camping of for a total of 11 nights! Sounds like the stripers are tough right now, but I will still target them. Rivers sound like they are choc milk, but the war eagle will clear before too long. I am hoping to camp at PC, but they only have 9 winter campgrounds open. Gonna drive up there first and if no luck will head back down to horseshoe and opperate out of there for the week. Looking forward to it, will be in a blue blue wave if anyone sees a couple guys and a bunch of rods give us a wave, run a marine radio on 18 if anyone has it on. Cant wait!

I will be headed that way 14th to 20th, we will proabably be at PC or Horseshoe, looking forward to it!

Will be making my annual pilgrimage over to beaver in march. First half of my 10 days will be all about fishing and camping, the second half though I have rented a house by Hickory and will have alot of family down to do a little fishing and alot of other stuff. They enjoy all the good eating, sightseeing and shopping for antiques and bargains. Any recomendations of places to visit for them? Good thrift stores or antique areas, historical sites, or other sights to see or good eateries. AQ chickens and the pizza place in rogers sound like a good start, but looking for others. I will be on the boat eating pb&j, but the others will need to be entertained. Thanks for any suggestions

I chum for stripers and hybrids in my local lakes here in OK all the time, and it is very helpful. We are often downlining with 6-10 rods, and when they are all getting slammed you need to keep bait under you. I save any dead baits and usually will keep a small bucket with several handfuls of chunked up bait. When I notice we are down to very few baits down in the water, a few handfuls of shad chunks will usually keep the fish under us. I have cleaned our average size 2-4lb hybrid with up to 30 pieces of chum in it, and have seen a pic of a 6lb blue that had 75 pieces in its gut. I also like to just cut the tails off of several shad and flip them over live, they put off alot of commotion and seem to draw fish to the boat when they start to scatter.
