  2. hello everyone, just browsing the site being a lurker like i usually am. i hardley ever post and just come down to table rock about once a year. i am from iowa and it is about an 8 hour drive but everytime i have been down it is a great time filled with great fishing. my question to u guys that fish the lake more often is do u guys ever fish a shad colored swim jig. i hear in the spring and fall people using the grub and spinnerbait and the swim jig is basically both without the blades. just wondering on some responses.. i know how some baits work on some lakes and not on others. thanks for the replies in advance.
  3. well everyone as i write this i am wishing i was on my way driving down to fish tomorrow. unfortunatley i had to cancel due to the weather. we got around 3 inches of snow today with another couple coming tonight and the weather doesnt look too hot for u guys down there this weekend either. i just wanted to thank everyone that added any input. it was greatly appreciated and i cant wait to get down in april!
  4. thank you everyone for the advice so far... looking at the extended forecast a front is supposed to come through on sat. with a little wind and a little rain. hopefully that will get the fish going. in those conditions its usually one way or the other. im still really excited regaurdless though!
  5. hello everyone from the ozark nation. coming all the way from fort dodge iowa i will be making a short trip down to table rock this weekend. we have had one of the hardest winters ever here in iowa and where i currently live there is still snow on the ground and all lakes are still frozen. one could say i kinda have the itch that i just cant scratch. well im hoping to scratch that this weekend! i have saved my money up and got the boat all ready to go and am coming down for just this weekend only to hopefully get on some bass. me and my friend will be staying in the aunts creek area and this will be my 3rd time in the area so i am kinda getting to know it. does anyone have any tips on whats working up there. any info would be really appreciative as we only have all day sat. and a little over a half day sunday to fish. thank you so much to anyone that could help, im hoping this short trip will relieve my bass fever for a month or so until i can bass fish some up here in iowa.
  6. i see some guides on here use humminbird and im hoping maybe they can help me with a few questions i have. i currently run the 797c si unit and am thinking of selling it and upgrading to the 1197 unit. my questions are can you buy the 1197 with down imaging and the new switchfire mode already on it or do u just buy the 1197 and then download the updates from you computer to your unit. also if you do have to download does that cost money. i have been researching but am just a little confused. thanks in advance for the help.
  7. sounds like you had a good day once the wind picked up. i posted a few months ago me and my in laws are making our second trip up to the rock next week, arriving on thurs and staying through the weekend. i was just wondering if the stickbait is still working. also if it is up here i mostly throw like xraps... i know you guys talk about the mcstick and rogues alot so wondering if xraps would work or if others work that much better. i know there will be plenty more reports from now til the time i leave next week but i am just getting so anxious to come down so if anyone has any tips or pointers from now till then that would be awesome. also we are staying at hideaway in the james river arm... i know there are a few little hollow and points by there i would like to hit up if they arent deep into the coves yet. but if anyone has been up that way let me know, anything would help as i just want my family to catch a few, dont care if white bass, crappie, or lg mouths, spots, or smallies whatever is biting they just dont fish much and want them to get on them. thank you, adam
  8. i ended up with the humminbird 585c, just got it installed last week and havent had a chance to get out yet. im anxious to get down to table rock with my family on the 16th. it sounds like everyone is doing pretty good right now.
  9. i have a question to everyone. i am looking to get a new sonar and possibly gps also for the front deck of my triton. does anyone have any suggestions? i have a SI unit mounted by the dash though the unit upfront doesnt have to be a humminbird. i want to really learn this year how to use my electronics better and also on table rock like how to drop shot and understand what your bait and fish are on the screen. any suggestions would help thanks.
  10. i like to change mine pretty often. here is what i do on rods and reels that i use quite often. i will spool the line so it a little over half full on the reel spool that way i am forced to change quite often as it is way to easy to put it off and just hit the lake and say oh well the line will be ok. i have got to the lake too many times with my line getting worn and lost fish cause of it so i have learned my lesson.
  11. I'm from fort dodge, iowa. i have never fished saylorville lake but have heard good reports from it. my home town is northwest about an hour and half from there. around that time it will be good walleye fishing in the des moines river though which runs right around that area. look on a map for any sort of darn or water block and the walleyes will be up there ready to spawn.
  12. Hello everybody im new to this site my name is adam arnold and im a fisherman from iowa. i really enjoy bass fishing and last fall me and my family in law took our very first fishing trip to table rock lake. we came last october and had a blast. the fishing was kinda tough but that was expected we just love to get out and have a good time on the water. we stayed at the hideaway resort on the james river arm of the lake. we didnt venture too far i think we fished jackson hollow and then over as far as saw mill hollow. i ended up with on keeper kentucky and a ton of shorts for our trip. anyways we are coming back to the hideaway resort from april 16-19 and was just wondering what your guys thoughts were on catching fish in that area during that time. i would love to get into the crappie or white bass we love to just fish for anything that bites. my father in law and my two brother in laws are very novice fisherman so i thought maybe during the spawn would get them a few more bites which always make the trip more enjoyable. i have read all the archives from the past years and i hear alot about the james river but nothing really about around where we stay. by the way i love this site and i am so glad i stummbled upon. within the past week i have spent hours just reading fishing stories and reports and looking at great pictures of fish caught on the rock. its wonderful that the knowledgable fisherman in this area are so kind to post such reports and run such a 1st class site. well like i said any info from locations to lures to any type of species that might be going at the time is greatly appreciated.
