  3. Sorry to read about those fellas gonefishin, Just glad you as I do not bother messing with less than desirable fishing company. There are thous that don't get the park fishing experience is also about manners and common courtesy than just catching. In fact I have found my self spending more time sharing information, flies, and just in general enjoying the company of those that are as welcoming as I am weather they are using a spinning outfit or fly rod. This is a far cry from the moments that not all that long ago I would have scolded a sport that decide to walk in on my drift or the fish I have put down and am now resting so that I may have another chance at it. Now its about the experience and not letting the masses get to me in fact its more about the camaraderie. As over the last few years I have met many nice people some that recall fishing next to me seasons prior only to invite me to there camps and or coolers for a bite to eat or a cold drink. Some people never get it others are solely seeking solitude not that there isn't times that we all like to fish alone. Its just that the parks really aren't the place to hope to find much of it. So like you say I'll also be "determined not to let the jerks ruin my afternoon." And I find it a good part of the park fishing experience to help make someone else's as good as mine. P.S. Nice smallie I have caught a few and have seen a few that were big but never hooked one like that a Bennett. JJ
  4. Well we've gotten a couple of sets in now and these fellas sure can tie. So I'm gonna have to a couple of hours in practicing in before I get serious about my ties. Updated first post also while I was here. JJ
  5. Not a problem Zach and thanks for giving notice early enough so that it wont stop other participants from getting theres returned asap. Everyone send the complete set and I'll throw in another pattern so that all will still get 10 different flies. Except me Ill get two of each
  6. Glad you all are getting these done. I haven't tied a fly in at least a week. I have however been eating a few crappie. Caught in a friends lake while kicked back in a lawn chair drinking cold "draft" beer using fresh caught minners under a slide bobber  Will up date the first list as soon as your contributions arrive. Thanks all, JJ
  7. I have never used such rings before but have seen them in feathercrafts catalog heres a link to them online they come in three sizes and supposed to not rust http://www.feather-craft.com/products.asp?...31&search=1
  8. Good advise there Dano. All is good in the case of sharpness testing also ie. getin myself stuck. Its the regular deal around here not a problem thanks for your concern tho JJ
  9. Mine came today they all look really fishy. I'm hooked hope the fish will be also Thanks all and a BIG Thanks to you Leonard, JJ
  10. Sammy Seems like your now officially hooked on trout fishing. Don't think I'll be able to make another trip so soon, but ya never know I may be able to swing another trip sooner than I may give myself credit for. Remember keep your line tight and your eyes open for any change in the drift and you'll soon be able to catch fish like those daughters of yours. JJ
  11. I have used droppers for many years at Bennett even fishing in zone one next to undercover enforcement that wanted to know "Whats the dropper it shure is working." my answer was "Here have one." Its was a red brassie with no thread and was no problem. I'm there for gonna have to say perfectly legal.
  12. Ok a big THANKS to all of those who have decided to join the swap, The sign up has officially ended at ten flies per tier. One for your self and nine others so that the return packets will all be the same assortment. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope (stamps not metered mail please) for the returning flies. Also don't forget "Toe Tags" so that fies can be identified by there tiers as well as there fine craftsmanship. And yes the Due date for sending flies to me for sorting and sending will be April 15th. My address is Jon Joy 26 Valley Dell Fenton MO, 63026 I hope to only keep things running as smooth as thous Swap Masters that have come before me. And I'll bet that with the Great group we've got here that should not be a problem. Any questions or help needed feel free to PM or post here as needed. Thanks again to all of ya, JJ
  13. Deepdiver75 is a fellow member of OAF and the pattern is a tiny little scud size 20 or so in olive or ginger color sorry no digi camera for pictures. Hope that clears up my last post for ya
  14. Will be in the park with Pop and Bro this weekend for some after opener bites. I hope. Currently tying up a few of Deepdiver75's lil scuds he was kind enough to share during opening week. Which accounted to triple digets when all was said and done for me over the course of five days spent at the park. Will be in a dark gray or gold I forget which exacty lol four door dakota with shell on back JJ
  15. I used to use a holstered carry net that was spring loaded attached to my wader belt. It was good since I never really netted anything mainly only kept fish for a shore lunch or elderly neighbor at the last moment. However then came a few times while I was fishing and fish seemed to be having trouble being revived higher water temps, low D.O., what ever was the case. I decided to get a landing net that was more substantial and I could take less time in bringing the catch to hand, hook release, stringer or whatever. So atm I carry a larger catch and release net with the fine mesh bag (which comes in handy to seine the surface to figure out what those rises are all about), a mag release, handle down, safety cord attached. But sometime in the near future I'm going to be building my own net and hope to make it with the solid rubber bag Ever so humbled trying to fool a little pea sized brain, JJ
  16. Im still imagining a lot of that ice storm cover laying in a few holes asking for a sunk nearnuf craw to be floated in there for a big smallie on a lil river branch I know of
  17. The demand for lint fish must have gotten to him
  18. Sorry I missed ya dotty congrats on the lunker tho. Seemed like they were few and far between this year even tho they reportedly dropped in a hundred plus of them. Saw a few fish on stringers that were maybe 3.5lbs or so but didnt see any swimmin. But i also spent a majority of my time fishin in zone two and it was pretty green. I had a great trip also, and I also am a believer in playing by the park rules I rarely keep a limit on any givin day and if I do want more fish then I stay longer and eat more while I'm there I'm going back on Friday for the weekend to fish with my little Bro. and Pop so Maybe there will be a few hold overs left. JJ
  19. Well I'm back from Bennett and it was a great trip Ill post a report soon of it in the Bennett thread. Mrs. Ducky are you gonna join in? We really could use a few more tyers
  20. Just got back from the park .. Yes the outlet is always popular for fish and fisherman alike. Finding a large fish at Bennett is all about sight fishing or deeper pools. Sorry I cant be more specific but thats the way only way I know to increase the odds to your favor. Nope no flys in Zone three. Doesn't seem right to me, but in the c&r season the whole place is for flies only JJ
  21. I'm hopein that there are a few piles left over for free fire wood tho...
  22. The only gas grill I keep is my Colman camp stove and its only used in no fire camping situations.I have a Brinkman smoker with the said fire box and use it exclusively."never has been touched by lighter fluid or Matchlight coals" I also use a chimney starter. I dont even own a can of lighter fluid and would rumble with the first person to approach it with one of the seasoned grill destroyers. I have been experimenting with different woods to use as flavor enhancers. Thanks to the apple, pear, and cherry trees I have growing a few yards past my porch and said grill/smoker. All that said I have known fellas that shure could cook a nice spread over gas its just not really my style. JJ
  23. Figured I would go ahead and bump my own post to see whos gonna make it to the Opener. Blue conversion van with OAF "jjtroutbum" sticker in back window. Thinking I'm gonna go to the Firehouses chilly dinner fund raiser for on Sat. the third its good eats and priced right at 5 dollars. Hope to see a few others there JJ
  24. Welcome to the swap DeepDiver75 sounds like a good pattern. Ill be at Bennett through the weekend also in a Blue Conversion Van with a OAF bumper sticker with jjtroutbum on it in the window...If ya see me around say howdy
  25. The only reason I think that a end of sign up needs to happen is the already limited number of responses that there have been. If this were more of a nation wide sight like a couple of the other giant forums out there then yes a limit could be set and filled really fast. That said I'm thinking "March 5th" will be the end of the sign up. Only because thats when I'll be back from Bennett after the opening. And "April 15" as a time to have your flies in the mail to me. Hopefully this isn't to rushed for anyone as it seems like there probably wont be a ton of flies to tie. Thanks again to everyone JJ
