  1. I always buy mine at one of the campgrounds.
  2. I may get a few death threats over this, or I may be completely off, however, I believe it has more to do with electronics than anything else. I think a lot of these fish are being marked the day before a tournament in deep, off shore structure. With where I believe the big fish are this time of the year, I think that is entirely possible to distinctly see these fish better than other times of the year. A good side scan graph like a Humminbird 998 is necesary to do this and I have been working on this just a bit since I upgraded, but haven't been on the 'Rock that much recently. There was a wave of this going on last year too about this same time.
  3. Anyone know what the ramp conditions are either here or Stockton? Wanting to head out in the morning, but don't feel like shoveling snow off the boat ramp.
  4. I rely heavily on scents on just about everything that I use. Funny thing is, I have a different favorite for each lake. The one I like for Stockton isn't made anymore, it was the old Baitmate #7. I have a homemade one I like on Pomme and Truman and there is another I like to use on Table Rock & Bull Shoals. Not sure why one would work better on one lake than another tho.
  5. Call Allan McMillin at A&J Custom Baits 417-839-2812 for Megabass repar. He can give you shipping/drop off instructions. I just got off the phone with him and I was mistaken on the price...he went up to $11 for reparing the bills. He also told me that he is looking to buy old floating Rogues if anyone has any they are willing to sell, give him a call also.
  6. There are a couple guys over in Battlefield who are wizards at reparing baits and make a small fortune each year fixing Megabass bills for $8.00, but I've taken all kinds of broken baits, busted balsa baits, warts, ect to them and most of the time they work as good or better than new. The Megabass can be made to run about 1 foot deeper than out of the box. They can also make all kinds of cutom baits as well. PM me for their contact info.
  7. I was in there today and the no boats buoy is there.
  8. FYI... The Fishers of Men Bass Club (not affiliated with the national circuit) annual awards banquet will be January 8th, 2013 starting at 6PM at Golden Corral on S. Glenstone in Springfield. For returning or joining members, there will be well over $1000 worth of door prizes and draw prizes including several Rods, US Reels, tackle, Bass Pro gift cards availible. As a prize to one member, there will be an Autographed KVD tournament jersey given away. We will be having Dion Hibdon (Possibly Guido) as our guest of honor this year. I encourage you to take a look at our website at http://www.fomspringfield.webs.com and we also have a Facebook page you can find by searching "Fishers of Men Bass Club, Springfield, Mo". If you are interested in attending or have any questions, feel free to email me at fomspringfield@yahoo.com. Our first 2013 tournament will be Jan 19th at Table Rock State Park. The remainder of the schedule will be posted on the website soon. The Fishers of Men Bass Club was founded in 1985. This club is a group of Christian Men who share the love of fishing and the outdoors. We are a points only club, money doesn't come into play with our regular monthly tournaments. It is primarily for fun and Christian fellowship. There are usually some very nice prizes given away each January to the angler of the year. That being said, we do have 3 small "money runs" each year where a member can fish with whoever they choose within the club or not. Our tournaments are a draw format with boater/non-boaters getting paired up. There are usually a few more boaters than non-boaters therefore there is the chance that 2 boaters will get paired up together. The tournaments use a "paper weigh-in" with the Golden Rule measuring board used for determining weight. There is a wide variety of fishermen in this club, there are weekend only anglers, big tournament anglers, and some old timers. Memberships are $80 per year members joining during the first 5 months or it is $7.00 per month based on the remaining number of tournaments for members joining after the 5th tournament. Membership fee goes toward the 2 overnight trips we have each year and for end of the year prizes and trophys.
  9. Often times when you catch a bass from more than 30 ft, the quick change in pressure will cause the fish major problems. This can be alleviated by "fizzing" the fish. There are 2 different ways and there is usually a pretty good argument on which way is better. Basically, the air needs to be released from the swim bladder via hypodermic needle. This link below describes it better than I can. http://www.steveadamsfishing.com/bass-fishing/how-to-properly-fizz-a-bass/
  10. I typically use a Luck-e-Strike Razor worm in one of several colors, but most often Watermelon red purple.
  11. Fished from Dawn til Dusk today between Aunts Creek and Piney. Twas pretty slow til late in the day, I managed to catch a few keepers drop shotting 50'-60'. But here is my big one of the day which came on the drop shot in 52 ft. Ended up keeping it cause it wouldn't go back down and I can't say I have a clue on how to fizz a catfish.
  12. I was told by a couple tournament directors that Cove 1 is now off limits to boats 1/2 way back. Yes, I know that the area around the spillway tower is off limits, but I have had more than one person now tell me that the No Wake buoys 1/2 way back in Cove 1 have been changed to No Boat buoys in the last month or 2. Does anyone know if this is true or blowing smoke?
  13. I can tell you that in my line of work ( I am an investigator for a repossession company), that fancy cars and especially Harleys don't mean much as an indication as to the economy. While there are lots of people who have earned what they have and pay their bills, I can tell you that "keeping up with the Jones" is still running rampant. In fact, I would rather work a scam account in the ghetto than a high end account in South Springfield....the fancier they are, the bigger the pain in the a** they are. Anyway, to answer the question, the economy has it's ups and downs for me too. I found that I can go twice as far if I go half as fast and I stay as long as I can on the water since I'm already there. I also have invested in a couple good lure retrievers, both a pole and knocker type, so I don't use nearly as many baits as I used to. Things have been busy lately, but I'm taking off tomorrow for some Christmas Eve fishing.
  14. Nitro96, those were most likely CARP you caught knowing your kind of fishing. I'm surprised I didn't see you down there last weekend. I was up there Saturday fishing near the dam.
  15. Just after posting that, I was up there last Saturday and caught 2 small ones
  16. I fish Pomme at least once or twice a month and have since I was 16. I have caught 4 ever there. All have been within sight of the dam and all have been 2 1/2-3 lbs. Its rare, but there are a few in there.
  17. I'd give about anything for some of those Morels you have there. I can't find any this year!
  18. I've been lucky and not had to have any work on my Yamaha that I couldn't do myself, but if you ever go to buy any Yamaha parts, check out a place online called Hardcore Marine - www.hardcoremarine.com. They carry Genuine Yamaha parts MUCH cheaper than you can buy them anywhere. Even with shipping, they are much cheaper. For example, I had to put a new prop shaft in my 1999 200. It was $291 everywhere I checked, but I got it from Hardcore with shipping for $231. Also, you might call John at Johns Hot Props, he knows some Yamaha guys that do some work on the side if that something that you are interested in .
  19. I am not aware of any plans to record this, however, we still have plenty of room if anyone wants to attend this Tuesday night at 7 PM.
  20. Ha ha!!! I just caught that, thanks!! Should have been "Hosted" I have a 6 year old laptop that has been victimized by several small children, so therefore the keys are a bit sticky! Also, just a bit more info on the Seminar, This is about an hour long power point presentation along with a question and answer session to follow. Mike will start out with some basic information and move into advance details and techniques on how to fine tune your electronics for the best performance. The seminar is free and once again, everyone is welcome to attend, even if you are not a member. As of now, we are expecting about 20 people. We have room for at least that many more, so if you are interested, feel free to come. You can email me at fomspringfield@yahoo.com if you have any questions!
  21. Just to let everyone know, at the Fishers of Men Bass Club February meeting, we will have Mike Webb as a guest speaker. He will be doing his electronics seminar in which he will be teaching in depth ways to best utilize your electronics. We are always looking for new members, boaters and non-boaters welcome. We have not began our tournament year yet, so any new members will be on a level playing field. This club is unique in the way it is ran, so I encourage you to check out our website and click on the New/Potential Members link. Our club had some great prizes this past year including several hundred dollars worth of Lucky Strike baits, several new US Reels, Bass Pro Gift Cards, and a guide trip with Brian Snowden, who happened to M.C. our awards banquet. Last year it was hosted by Guido Hibdon. Everyone is welcome to attend, however, space is somewhat limited, so please email me at fomspringfield@yahoo.com if you would like to attend so I have an idea of approxamately how many to expect. When: February 7th 2012, 7 PM Where: Prairie View Heights Clubhouse, 3406 W. Sexton, Springfield, Mo 65810 For more information or for directions, email: fomspringfield@yahoo.com or you can check us out on the web at www.fomspringfield.webs.com Also on Facebook - http://www.facebook....101690676558326
