  1. My personal best was a 25 incher with a very healthy girth and it weighed in at 8.5 on a banana scale @ the local grocery store. You should of seen the look on the ladies' faces when I lifted that bruiser out of the cooler and wanted to stick it on the fruit scale. lol. Now thats a memory! That was a few years back. I would of released it but I didnt have a camera around to take a picture to get a replica made of it and I'll be darn if I was going to let it go without it going on my wall some way. Oh well, great looking mount though! Look at the size of that thing compared to my head! I know its not the biggest in the world but wow what a memory. Judging by what you guys are saying 26 and 24 inchers are weighing for you, maybe the scale I put it on was wrong huh!
  2. I totally agree with the clip. Thanks for posting that Lilley!
  3. I have a pair of guidelines that I have good luck with. They are durable, reasonably prices and fit good with good coverage from style to style. If I was to upgrade, Smith Action Optics would be #1. They are a little expensive for my taste but they are really good.
  4. Here is some more pics from my camera. We all had a blast. There is always ways to work around the high and cloudy water. Boy it was high and cloudy. Could'nt see anything. Its all a matter of reading the water when it gets like that. Using the right tackle doesnt hurt either. Still kind of a slow day but we did get into em. The hard part was keeping the kids rounded up. My wife helped out with that alot. After awhile they got sidetracked and found some frogs and bugs to play with, but that just gave me and grandpa a chance to give the kids a little stream entomology session with the vegetation and rocks. Hopefully they retain some of that knowledge for the next step down the road... the great sport of fly fishing. Plenty of great memories have came from that park and more are sure to come. Grandpa sure had fun!
  5. We, being myself, wife, two kids, and grandpa (BMAN) are going down to the park today. The weather looks pretty breezy but being the kids first time down to the park we will just spin fish instead of gunning for em with flies. I hear the water is high and cloudy but I think we can still find fish... The main thing is we will be starting a new generation in our family tradition of trout fishing. It oughta be fun. I have a 2 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. Dad and I both will be taking pictures so we will post some tonight. Good luck to anyone else that might have the same idea for a Friday!
  6. Same trout fishin bums only a few years later and minus 1 mullet. Good times Thanks Dad!
  7. It was a good day, plus a ride in the riverpro is ALWAYS A PLUS! Catching trout on bass jerkbaits and jigs is always fun yet different too. Its been around two years since I have been down there, it was good to get down and see how much it has changed. I cant wait to see it when the water is down. Hope this year is a little drier than last year.
  8. I am DEFINITELY a RIO fan. But my father gave me the new sharkskin line for Christmas and i will say that line is the best i have ever casted. The advertisements dont lie. It floats the highest and longest, great loops, very supple, and when casting anything more than a rod length or two that line sings out there so fast it seriously will try to take the rod out of your hands! It shoots out there rreeaall nice. Two thumbs and all fingers way up for the new Sharkskin! I will still always be a RIO fan though. They make darn good stuff! Tight lines Matt
  9. The temple forks are defenitely cheaper.
  10. Thats what I call speaking the truth bro. Not to mention doin the right thing by letting the guy know that HE IS STEPPING ON THE FREAKIN FISH!!! LOL
  11. Good looking fish, glad you got into em. That burlap fly sounds like and interesting bug...... very natural looking probably. Im going to look into that more. Do you know where I could find a picture of one of those? Dad- sounds like we need to hit it sometime. 4 day work weeks....hhhmmm
  12. Dad and I are usually throwing flies down there but Im gonna advise keeping the spinning rod close at hand. Last time we went down it was pretty crowded for fly fishing and if you have a spinning combo(bait or jig) you can get in there and do battle a little better. Good luck and enjoy your trip! P.S. That 6WT my dad gave me might be overkill at times but ive thanked my lucky stars I had it and a big net more than once down there!
  13. Bman is my dad and I can say... THAT BOAT IS ONE WILD RIDE!!!!! ESPECIALLY IN SKINNY WATER! you can do figure eights where any other boat would have to go straight or not at all. THAT BOAT IS WICKED Y'ALL!!! P.S. Information about possible "stealth cappabilities" or the like is strictly classified and cannot be released to the public.
  14. Welcome to the site!. This is a very good site for any sort of information. There is forums for just about everything. tight lines always! Matt
  15. I was afraid of that. It would be nice to be able to pay maybe a few extra bucks for people that dont want to buy a troller and dont go out there that much. My dad and I run his River pro jet boat alot but you cant exactly take one of those out there. DARN! Thanks for the lake suggestions, i remember as a kid fishing out there and it was always good memories.
  16. Man I cant spell very good today can I? lol
  17. Does anyone know if you can rent boats that have a tolling motor and battery already on the boat? If so, what are the prices? Any suggested lakes for catch and release bass fishing. Doesnt nessesarily have to be a catch and release lake. Thanks
  18. It was tough fishing especially with the crowds. We still got into em in places though didnt we dad! P.S. Dont let my pop (BMAN) fool ya, I out fished em. LOL yeah right
  19. My bad Shawncat..that was brownieman who said that. But all I saw in your post was "18 inches or more". I didnt know that you were talking twenty inches or more. I do agree a twenty inch or more trout should be released.. Sorry for the mix up bro. tight lines
  20. Too bad about the fish..Bman and shawncat are right though. A fish that size is a dime a dozen and is there for harvest. Catch and release is good but i personally believe that selective harvest is better. Throw the true trophies back. After all, fishing started as a way to collect food and is still one of the greatest rewards of fishing. Nice fish regardless though! Well done!
  21. Sorry it didnt work out so well. The doughbait has never failed to produce a limit for me... I fish it a little differently than most people would. Better luck next time I hope!
  22. Either the smallmouth or the rainbow but right now im hunting for a nice rainbow.. both would definitely be a catch! tight lines Matt
  23. I personally think that for an all around reel with lots of sizes and models to choose from, the Bass Pro Shops Extreme reel (or reel and rod combo) is your best bet. Plus any size seel and rod combination, even at regular price, is under $150, during their spring classic sale every year you can pick up that combo for 100 bucks. Thats my two bits.
  24. Hi everyone! I am new to the site but I know other people that are members and I have heard good things. I look forward to posting reports and pics as often as I go fishing. Some people (my wife) call it an obsession. NNaahhhh...... just an obsess... I mean... a way of life. Look forward to sharing good times with you all!!
