  1. If there is anyone who has some good information about the fishing in the Calgary area I would love some advice. It looks like my job will be moving me to Calgary in about a month. I found that the Bow River runs right through and is known for big trout. Any good lakes aroun this area?
  2. You should also try Fellows Lake just north of Springfield. When they shocked it, there was a large number of 35" and up muskie. Most people catch them when bass fishing.
  3. If you never drifted 4 catfish All you need Is a little bit of wind Big crappy hook and enough split shot good keep it on the bottom. yourself some fresh shad and thread it on the hook. Now I know what I am doing wrong. I need to use "crappy" hooks instead of those sharp ones. These the same used when rigging kids? Great info plus a chuckle.
  4. Want fries with that?
  5. What's next? Guided hunts at the DFW zoo? They did mention in that link their lodge has a fully stocked bar. Now the pieces are starting to come together. I think Tom Arnold will be hosting their new show.
  6. Nice one! What did you catch him on?
  7. Noticed in the video he was fishing out of a float tube. I thought you could not put these in Lake Springfield.
  8. WWay to go! Nothing like catching a fish on the first cast! Makes the rest of the day more enjoyable. Nice first cat.
  9. here ya go... http://www.wormonahook.com/502/what-are-the-black-dots-in-the-flesh-of-some-smallmouth-bass/
  10. From some of the things I read it is pretty common.
  11. No kidding! After I read the article I could not believe people would eat these. I for one would not keep or eat any smallie.
  12. I Google this and found several articles. The dots are parasites. The fish you caught are smallies. This is one article I found.... What are the black dots in the flesh of some Smallmouth Bass?lighthouse_lover92 says: November 5, 2008 at 12:43 am The parasites that are on the bass are right under the skin not in the meat. We have caught and eaten the fish. Just make sure that you remove the parasites first. If there are a few hundred on them I wouldn’t eat them, but if there are one or two you should be ok. I live in Pa and our smallmouth bass have the same problem just not as bad. David K says: November 7, 2008 at 6:40 am Fish are subject to a variety of maladies, such as grubs or worms, which may be found in or on the skin, attached to gills, or embedded in the flesh. Although aesthetically displeasing, none of these parasites presents a threat to human health provided the fish is thoroughly cooked before it is eaten.
  13. Thanks. I found some deep holes when I took the kids out there to cool off in the creek. I love those small river smallest. Great info... thanks
  14. Does anyone know if Bear creek is worth fishing. It is that crystal clear water that runs out by Tanneyville and Forsyth. Took the kids out there and saw what looked like small trout hitting the surface. Any info about this area would be great.
  15. The main beach fish are pampano, trout, whiting, and redfish. You might catch a flounder or two and you will more than likely catch some stingrays and small sharks. Realing in a stingray is like dragging in a truck! To get your hook out, flip them over on their back and use your rod to hold down their tail. Just give me a shout.
  16. Sounds like you are ready to go. One thing I use is a leader that is pre-rigged with swivels. Put your pyramid on one and your circle hooks on the other two. The come in wire and in heavy mono. The wire tends to kink throughout time. You can buy these almost everywhere down there. The grocery stores usually have a fishing section where you can pick these up for a couple of bucks. One last thing..... clean your reals after each trip down to the beach. I take some Real Butter with me. Rinse out all the sand and salt and re-oil each time. I killed a couple of reals the first time I went because I did not get the sand out. Even if your rod does not touch the sand, it is in the air and will get into your gear. If you catch some rampano, clean them like a white bass, cut out the dark blood line and throw them on the grill!! Very white meat! U lucky dog! I am jealous! Attached a picture of my little one with her first pampano.
  17. I am sure this 95 degree weather has something to do with that too.
  18. That is great! That first fish starts the adiction.
  19. Never caught one on a Cars pole, but I have pulled in a few out of the park on a Barbie pole. And the answer is " yes".... we do have the matching tackle box too hehe . Love watching them little squirts catching fish on those things.
  20. At least your son recognizes the rudeness of those boys and when he gets to be their age, he will be able to show others how to respect other fisherman and the outdoors. It just goes to show not everyone is taught how to respect another person's space while fishing. I had the same thing happen when I took my 8 yr old girl out to the docks on Lake Springfield. We had a dock to ourselves and someone decided to walk onto our dock and start fishing. When you have kids around, you find yourself being "nicer" to those who intrude. I asked "politely" and they moved on. Just amazes me though how many people don't get it...... It is one of those " here's your sign" moments. I did not know the finley had many cats in it. Do you ever catch them up by the park?
  21. I have been out to the park area a couple of times a few weeks ago, but have not been since this warm weather rolled in. I did find some nice gills, hand size, right up in the rocks. Anyone having any luck or been out lately? I noticed the pads are popping up around the park.
  22. yup... for a small lake, Fellows has more regs an rules than one would expect. This is a good thing, which keeps it a great little fishery and clean little lake. I have caught small shad early in the morning as they are cruising along the banks in large schools. I would take the tip of my rod and smack it in the water, spooking the shad and a few dozen at a time would jump right up onto the bank. It is crazy... I would take my minnow bucket with me every time I went. If you are trying for Muskie, these might be a bit small for your needs. The whites go nuts though. Caught a few eyes too on these smaller shad. Try and catch a smaller bluegill and use it for your muskie.
  23. I think it would be hard working when you have all that clear blue water calling your name. Those reds are a lot of fun!
