Soft hackles are my favorite. What kind of rod are you using? I've found the responsiveness of some rods helps me to hook up better than others. Also, using a strip set rather than a tip set helps me immensely. I'm curious to hear others thoughts on this.

For sale is a recently finished 7'3" 4wt built on a James Green yellow e-glass blank. It casts 3 & 4 weight lines very well but I prefer it with a 4. It's a nice medium progressive action. It's finished out with cinnamon brown YLI silk, flor grade cork, Lemke aluminum cap and rings seat hardware, Mildrum stripper and Snake Brand Universal guides. This thing is super sweet and cast extremely delicately but with a surprising amount of reserve power. I used a DT2, DT3 and a WF3. I liked the 3's best. Finished with YLI #814 silk, Snake Brand Universal guides, Mildrum stripper, flor grade cork and Lemke black aluminum seat hardware. For sale is my lightly used fiberglass McFarland 7'6" 3 piece 3 weight rod. I built this on one of Mike's 'blem' blanks this past spring. It has some minor color variations on the blank that do not affect the performance. I built this with all Recoil titanium guides, YLI silk finished with Permagloss, Struble nickle silver cap & ring seat hardware with a cork insert. REC rod sock and PVC tube included. Weighs 2.1 ounces. I've fished this rod with DT & WF 3 weight lines and have tried a WF4 on it.
