  3. I tend to catch crappie on size 12ish red/white slow sinking spiders. If you are familiar with them the Bluegill Bully Spider works well in whites, reds or yellows.
  4. Thanks Brian. They sort of have a 'glass feel but they are definitely graphite. BTW, the 802 is sold.
  5. Hello everyone, I'm selling two rods I built on blanks that I got from a friend. I can't reveal exactly where the blanks came from but it was made at a well known factory in Korea that makes a lot of other blanks for major quality companies. $100 each plus shipping Rod #1: 8' 2 weight 3 piece that is a nice smooth mid flex rod with lots of power. I can see this rod being a great canoe/kayak/tube rod. It casts very well with a standard DT or WF2 line and weighs in at 1.8 ounces (.1 ounce heavier than my Superfine Touch 8' 2wt). Build details: Gudebrod A Rust thread with 8 coats of permagloss H&H guides with a Fuji stripper Struble 27 style rings on a Flor grade cork seat and grip Comes with a custom made sock and PVC tube Rod #2: 8' 3 weight 3 piece that is a nice smooth mid flex rod with lots of power (more than the 2 weight). This too will be a great canoe/kayak/tube rod when you have some wind. It casts very well with a standard DT or WF3 line and weighs in at 2.1 ounces. Build details: Gudebrod A Sunburst thread with 8 coats of permagloss H&H guides with a Fuji stripper Struble 27 style rings on a Flor grade cork seat and grip Comes with a custom made sock and PVC tube Please contact me at czarbarclay @ prodigy . net Thanks!
  6. Bluegill have personalities like any other fish that varies from water to water so I'd give it a shot if i were you. A friend of mine up in Peoria does very well on a copper john with rubber legs up there. I've tried it in a few spots and it didn't work for me very well (lots of variables in there though). It's worth a try, that's for sure! You may find a new favorite. And yes, fishing them slow like a plastic worm is how I like to fish for 'gills most of the time.
  7. My 'go to' bluegill fly is similar with beadchain eyes so it rides hook point up.
  8. I've used them when the fish are deep. they've work well with rubber legs but usually something else works better.
  9. Somehow I missed your replies guys. Thanks for the compliments!
  10. SOLD For sale is my Orvis Superfine Touch 7' 4wt 4 piece rod I built from a blank December 2011. I build it to imitate the old Superfines with a simple aesthetic. I left off the label but can put it on or include it with the sale. I used Fish Hawk size A medium brown nylon thread with 8 coats of Permagloss finish that is nice and thin. It has Snake Brand double foot guides and an American Tackle Titan stripper. The reel seat hardware is Lemke aluminum with nickle polished slide bands and butt cap - looks like nickle hardware but has the weight of aluminum. Comes with an Orvis rod sock and Orvis graphite tube (not the Superfine tubes but one for a Helios). $250 shipped in the US Please contact me at czarbarclay @ prodigy . net
  11. Is Prarie Lake the one with the two jettys? If so, I stopped by last week to take a look. It seems like a good one.
  12. Same here!
  13. WF, have you ever fished the LP? It's a special place that's worth the 3 page mark for sure.
  14. Well said. I've thought many times about mentioning something about the care of released fish but it's hard to do so tactfully (as has been displayed already).
  15. Sick days are for fishing. Period.
  16. sweet!!! I really need to get down there.
  17. I like soft hackles for winter gills. They sink very slowly. If I want to get further down I fish a bead thorax soft hackle.
  18. I'm selling my beloved Ultrafine 7'9" 2wt 2 piece 1.5 ounces date code 1097. Yes, I said I'd never sell this rod. It's in very good, fished condition and comes with it's green Cordura rod tube and partitioned Orvis rod sock. I don't have any good pictures of this rod right now but I'll work on that in the next day or two. I'll sell it for $230 with $20 shipping in the states or contact me for shipping costs out of the US. Please contact me via email: czarbarclay @ prodigy . net Here's a link to some pictures I took of the rod.
  19. Holy crap! That's a nice one! (though I think larger bows are just about as ugly as carp)
  20. Wow, that's really something! Ha!
  21. I noticed that. A top notch musician and fisherman. Must be a pretty good guy!
  22. Figures, they always put the big ones in there.
  23. Whoa... caught her at 33 didn't you?
  24. Great report and pics!!! On another note, how do you like your wading boots? I'm specifically interested in the BOA lacing system - any issues with it?
