  1. I have a trip planned for May 13 to 18 ... for camping and fishing on Taneycomo. Then again during the third week of June. I guess that i will see some of the aftermath. I can not imagine the water beign this high. After the water receeds - I wonder what the fishing will be like? I read the electroshocking data that said that fish per hour were very low in 2008. This was a large decline from previous years. We are planning 3 trips down this year .... wonder if i should wait till fall on a couple of the visits? i do not wish to sound uncaring about the people in Branson - i just said another prayer for those affected.--- but i do have to wonder about this year's fishing as well ... carter
  2. we camp at cooper creek. it is a bit more expensive. nice facility. pools, laundry room, store, 2 boat docks. it has trees. it is for campers, but talk to them and they rent you a flat spot with a picnic table. we fish from a boat. ramp is next door. we have topper on the truck, a tarp, and a fold up table. can take a fan to stay cool. a tv - they have cable. you can camp at the downtown camp - behind Scottie's. do it in a tent??? try cooper creek.
  3. may i ask what brand and type bait is the lure / jerk bait?
  4. and i almost forgot to say that he showed us where to catch crappie and white bass. carter
  5. lets see --- guide 1 double booked. guide 2 got sick guide 3 showed up ..... no one told him of the desire to use spinning and fly gear.... i was less than happy. guide 3 was Vince Elfrink. i told what had lead to this point .... i explained what my wife and i wanted -- to learn how to fish many different ways. He offered to get his fly rods but said that the water was running fast .... so off we went. He showed us: jigs jig under a float how to drift a fly - rigged and discussed - never did jerk baits flies under a float we knew about drifting powerbaits and trolling he took us from the dam to Roark creek. He busted his rear to show us what to do and got us on the fish! My wife got tired of catching fish. I threw jerk baits and Vince fished jigs for a few hours. He talked about every area- what to try --- We got our money's worth .... i met a heck of a good person. i have balance problems - Vince worked with me to give me a heck of a day - thanks!
  6. i appreciate the feedback. Lilley's offered any of their guides. i started to contact a few people that were suggested here and that i saw on the internet. Phil volunterred to guide Marilyn and i on that day ... you can't beat that. we are going down Sunday.... we are looking forward to fishing with Phil. i hope that he can put up with a fellow that is almost deaf ..... and that has some balance issues --- never drink - but wobbles --- just the remnants of good old brain tumor.... we have looked on this site to read a little about Phil. i would imagine a good christian man based on the people that have used teh picnic area when we have been there in the past. looking forward to a good week --- we always enjoy staying at Phil's... now we get to meet him. again thanks carter
  7. i seek input on a good guide for Taneycomo --- in late Dec - i set up to fish with Bill Babler. yesterday, i emailed to find out where and when to find that he double booked and now i told that i can fish another date with Bill or to use another guide. what i am seeking ... some one to teach my wife and i about trout fishing at Taneycomo .... we had fished Taneycomo in the late 70's and early 80. we had hired a guide - Milo Holvick. He taught us to use drift rigs and to troll with cowbells. we quit fishing Taneycome for many years. in the past three years, we started to fish Taneycomo again ... we catch a few trout --- got a few nicer fish - but we realized if we do not catch more fish this year - we will crappie fish at a texas lake ... so we know how to drift --- we know a little about trolling. we would like to learn about jig fishing - tight line and under a bobber, throwing lures? fly rod with and without an indicator ... plus how to safety navigate the trpphy area ... what to look for in spots to fish. we will continue to fish after the guided trip until Sat AM ... we want this known upfront so as to not step on toes. we are looking for a guide on Monday April 26. any recommendations?
  8. thanks for the advice..... i have talked to Bill and shared emails ---- i made the arrangements to fish with bIll forr a day....again thanks
  9. i have fihed taneycomo off anf on for many years. in the 70 and early 80's i caught lots of fish. i quit fishing taneycomo for many years. we drift fished bait, threw spinners and trolled cowbells. a guide nmaed Milo Holvic spent a day showing us how to fish. we have returned for the last 3 years ... two visits of 4 to 5 days each.... we catch fish most days... and a few days of almost 0.... we went into trophy area 2 times. one time we followed up a boat and the other time we went about 2 MPH..... the water was up and running fast. we caught 0 on jigs. we considered going crappie fishing ????? we have a bass pro panfish - 40 hp..... ultralights and considering buying a flyrod? we decided to return to fish taneycomo for a week - late april and early Sep. we are considering hiring a guide in early april - if we can find someone that is willing ot teach us how to boat the trophy area and how to fish diferent methods..... we would like to consider two half days or 1 full day? i need to be in a stable boat.... medical isue that messes with my balance on many days. any suggestions on who to contact? teh guide would need to know that we would fish for a week afterwards .... sorry for the long post -- i just wanted to make sure that i got it all out in the open.... i am calling Lily's tommororw to reserve the room. thanks and any input would be appreciated. carter
  10. the wife and i are to spend 5 days at Lilley's - sep 7 to 11. on our last trip, we made the journey into trophy area 1 time - with 2 generators running. we followed another boat in. is there a map that shows how to avoid the gravel bar at Falls Creek? with no generation, is it shallow enough to get a lower unit? we went past the condos that are doing the bank work a short ways. where is the rebar hole? any map that would show teh names of teh holes used, etc would be appreciated. thanks in advance.. carter
  11. faith ... faith. i do not know how to catchwith 4 generators going ... we caught a few after 2:00 today .... not many. we threw spinners and deep diver crank bais along the wall at branson landing. only a few bites. we went on down to teh rocks / rip-rap .... several would follow the lures back to the boat. went accross teh creek and got 0 bites. we went back to upstream of highway 65 bridge and caght a few on worms. a guy and his wife were fishing down a bit form cooper creek -- caught limit on brown jigs. took until after 1:00. the person working the dock was showing how to filet a trout. the crew at Lilly's is busy working on flowers, getting the pool open, readying to plant sod. the price of worms is $2.50 PER BOX AT LILLY'S. A JIG IS $1.00. PRICES ARE VERY GOOD AT TTHE STORE. I AM SURPRISED. life is still good
  12. yesterday am was very slow with litle water flow. around lunch, they started to generate. we caught fish on cowbells and worms. we tried a step bank with spinners and crank baits --- we caught 0. trout were risisng and we tried fro an hour and a half... we fished too ling ... at about 6:00 we decided to cook dinner and we ran out of gas about 100 yards from the dock. the trolling motor would hold, but not take us up river. cooper creek does not have their pumps working, but they got some lawnmower gas for us. and would not take money. other wse, it would have bben a nice hike. this am - not water running. power baits worked about at short creek. cowbells and worms kicked butt about half way to monkey island. teh wife caugth a rainbow of aabout 16 inches. life is good. carter
  13. the wife and i are still at Lilly's ..... Sat and sunday had heavy water flow. Monday, the water flow was decreased !!!! we caught fish drifting powerbaits ---yellow, orange, and white and pink. also trolling cowbells with worms behind .... strikes ongoing -- but hooking up on a small percentage. it has been cool in the mornings. nice by 10:00. i have tried a motor oil colored jig under a float -- 4 feet and tried to cast and retrieve with 0 strikes. we are catching and releasing ... no massive numbers - just enough to keep it interesting. the wife is kicking my butt. the guys in the next cabin hooked a nice brown on power baits today. i am still trying to figure out lures for these trout... carter
  14. my wife and i arrived yesterday. this is our first visit to Lilly's. before we stayed at Cooper Creek. they lost a dock and would not say if a slip was available as we made reservations .. so we called Lilley's. nice cabin ... one bedroom off the lake. we fished about 4 hours on saturday ... the water is really flowing. we cought 6 trout... 2 drifting powerbaits pink and white. whitethen we tried trolling cowbells with worms. wife caught 4, me 2. we grilled them after fileting them.... also had vegies on teh grill. this is nice resort ... teh wife wanted toothpicks to hold bacon on stuffed jalepenos ... to office... shortly a partial box of toothpicks were delivered to teh cabin. when wife came back to lilly's after dropping me off with boat.... person there offered to unhook trailer and rol it to side . this is good of the reort... caring people! today we fished after lunch for about 3 to 4 hours. drifting power baits produced 3 - then we could not buy a bite. we switched to cowbells and worms.. and we caught limits and then catch and release. we also went to craft show in Branson.... have to keep teh wife ahppy as she is outfishing me. we are fishing in front of lillys some ...mostly down river. there are few boats out. this AM it was cold. about 65 this PM. lilly's is a good place. i will be here all week. carter
