  1. I stay On my property and have about 300 hundred acres to my self for hunting so no one should be in my hunting area and that is plenty of ground to cover each week once they start to fall but that is a good comment for someone hunting public ground or where other hunters are preset you want to be sure not to disturb anyone hunting I can understand that
  2. As Of the first of the year 2010 I will begin my rounds for the hunt of them sheds If anyone is wondering you should start seeing deer droping sheds anywhere from the first of the year till late feb Normally Feb is the best month for me But I have found A shed before christmas You have to make a regular round on your area during the time day your deer aren't there so you don't scare them off everything from rodents to coyote's will nab these sheds quickly and chew them up for the morrow inside them I use a dog to find my sheds She is black lab That I trained to sniff them out last year she found a dozen sheds incuding two sheds that were from the same deer off of the same side but a year a part this rifle season my neighbor shot the deer and it scored 158 5/8 what A nice deer good luck to those who injoy looking for sheds Any young dog from the pound will work to train to find sheds some mix breeds work pretty well just make sure there big enough breed to carry those big ones you don't want them droping them because there to heavy the younger the better I got mine when she was about 7 months old and had her finding sheds within the month I was lucky to get a full blood lab for free and was smart as you could ask for she knew how to Sit/stay/laydown/come load up and find a bone all in thew first month sit/laydown and load up are all hand commands that way I can control her with out making abunch of noise in the woods One Thing I must say is never touch the bone with your bare hands when training or the dog will learn to find you instead of the smell of a deer horn also be ready to get alot of other bones brought to you or in your yard a bone is a bone and they smell the same to a dog when they are old and been in the woods awhile good luck any questions on how I trained her fill free to ask
  3. anybody know why the Attach photos isn't working ? never had any problems before
  4. got to the river about 30 mins after daybreak started walking the bank back to the islands and noticed spawning reds everywhere I stopped for a min to take a look I then saw 3 bald eagles flying over head (Hmmmm They got easy target on there minds) then I was on my way Tied on a black prince and a caddis dropper and started working my up stream was getting some takes here there but nothing of size some small browns for awhile around 8 to ten inches only caught two that were ok for a photo shoot nothing big just nice healty fish only caught browns today no rainbows were landed and only one rainbow was hooked that I could tell but it was a fowl hook and came out weather was chilly with winds 10 20 mph at times My guides on my rod were freezing shut from time to time so I was dipping my rod in the water and shaking it often the free them up went up to sunburst saw lots of nice fish up there but wasn't able to bare the cold any longer and called it a good day with the river to myself and some nice R&R I got that break away from holiday madness that I was needing

  11. Arkansas and Mo line just outside of thayer missouri it is a put and take hatchery but there is alot of nice fish that don't get caught often so they get a chance to become weary and live longer it's a good place to go when the water is high here at the eleven point and sometimes just afun place to spend the day fishing something different you should expect to see alot of people so go in the middle of the week if you want less people springriverflyshop.com is the website to check out for more info
  12. you could call it grandma's brownie if you'd like haha
  13. hey max That river will fish alot like the eleven point stay deep except the shallow runs 1 foot to three foot should not be pasted up your odds are just as likely to catch fish there fish the seams and stay deep and you should be fine those fish can be a challenge there is fish in there they are just picky you could start up stream and float down to sunburst ranch camp and continue down talk to justin at sunburst about a place to start and take out he will know what may be best I'm still am not 100 percent on that river and have only fished from sunburst to patrick bridge a few times but have always caught fish great place to spend a few hours as far as flies go same flies for the eleven point will do fine crawdads, stoneflies, eggs, and so on but don't forget about throwing a big streamer from time to time for some big browns down towards the lower section from what I have been told thats what some big ones have been landed on you check out sunburst website I don't know who sells flies there good luck and injoy that great river but be prepared to get a work out on those slippery rocks I fell in twice this week when I was down there
  14. heres the link daddyO hope it works it is worth seeing here are the few fish that made the camera from the spring river

  17. 300.000 high sounds about right t yea I would like some info about the house and 80 acres near bryant creek might when we stoped there we did notice beer cans in the yard and a that a mattress had been burned in the front yard how much is your cabin rentals I would to spend a couple days there with the family two beds is all we need
  18. I stopped and looked at that place on the way out of town there was some turkeys in the yard including a albino turkey thats the first time I have ever seen one in the wild I walk over to the house it looked like it was nothing more then a nine bedroom rental cabin wish they didn't want so much for it do you know who owns it ? also looking for some property with a house around that river or well my friend is anyway doesn't have to have river access just within a few miles of it see ya next week with my family
  19. No 30 inch browns were landed all though I gave it my best shot just past that century 21 sign at the rocks on the same side of the river had to make some long cast I did manage to hook into something there that pulled like I was hooked to a boat but I never got it landed one big swirl of water and that was the end I just know there's a two foot brown lurking between or around those rocks It just looks to good I spent alot of time right there then I made my way up to the islands after the floaters went by we had a long period about a hour and half of nothing then after breaking off on a rock I messed around in the water looking at what kinda of bugs were in there with my net I pulled up alot of big black stones flies and something else I'm not sure what it was be but it looked like a very small stone fly but almost a grayish brown color so I looked in my fly box for something that resembled it I found I little fly that tied while goofing off one day that was pretty close to it It was a size 14 hook tied with elk hair same color and the hair almost made it look like the little legs the bug had It looked alot like a gray elk hair caddis so tied it on along with a micro Egg pattern and then boom first drift Fish On wasn't expecting it and due to the tree limb above my head I wasn't able to keep enough pressure on the fish and it was gone one down side to fishing barbless but it got me going anyway so I moved alittle and then again another fish on gone again with nothing more then a short fight and one small run but it was good sign to what may come after missing the hook another fish I started to hook and land rainbow after rainbow with two browns in the mix this went like this all the way back down to the last island all though nothing was bigger 15 inches it was alot of fun as always my plan was to fish the island then go up to sunburst and with fish after fish between the islands I wound up staying till almost dark 30 didn't do any photo shoots I try not take the picture of any fish smaller then 16 inches I did manage to catch a brown that was only about 5 inches didn't know they stocked them that small or was it a wild one no fins clipped I had a great time and will be back next week sometime this time I'll have to stop at sunburst first Justin other wise I get stuck fishing a run that is producing fish or I see something like those rocks 60 feet on the other side and try and catch something around them I feel it in my shoulder today from making those long cast drift after drift I did hook myself for the first time and prob. not the last set the hook right in my shoulder blade when the hook got me the split shot hit me right it the nose couldn't help but laugh and look to see if anyone saw does anyone know what that little bug could be looked almost like a small stone maybe thats what it is but the river is full of them at lease I know what to tie for next week Brian glad to hear you caught some fish was worried that it wouldn't be that great of fishing maybe it's picking up look forward to reading about your fishing trip and seeing the photo's when will it be ready ? till the next cast I'll catch ya later The Ghost Angler
  20. Headed down to catch some browns as soon as my friend arrives I will be there with in the hour first stop the islands 700 cfs I think it should be doable I guess I'll see starting rig for the day is a egg and a black rubber leg stone fly will see how it ends my fly box is full of new goodies to play with hopefully I'll have some pics for everyone to injoy TaTa The Ghost Angler
  21. I too am a fan of temple fork fly rods I have two of them a axiom 5wt and a signature series 6wt both are great rods and when I left my rod in the truck and the dog jumped into it breaking it in half I almost lost it with three days to go before my fishing trip I hurried up and sent it in a had them send me the signature series on 2 day shipping It arrived on time for the trip and I was impressed it handled very nicely I was worried being that it cost half as much as the axiom but there was nothing I could find wrong with the rod roll cast were like a dream unfolding before my eyes I even had to let my friend use my rod for awhile and his reaction was I got to get one he couldn't stand it that a rod that was three times less then his Orvis rod handled better he now wants one and with the return of my rod in five days he was sold on the service and I am too great rods at a great price what could be better I am interested in the clouser series rod in a 6wt since I am always chunking two weighted flies and split shot and a strike indicator I think it sounds just perfect for me has anyone used this rod yet also I would like to add the chronicle series to my collection thats a great looking rod and sounds perfect for me on other rivers as well as my home river wish they would make a gold reel to go with it that be a great combo my I add I used the 5wt in the landing of my biggest rainbow ever a 25 inch hog in fast current great fish great rod something for you try is loading these rods with line 1wt over the rod wt if your gonna be fishing in the wind or need long roll cast I done this because someone suggested it and now I'm roll casting 50 ft with ease great for those tight spots with lots of hang over like current river and the eleven point temple fork will be receiving my money again soon
  22. drift boat or jon boat type there's a place in arkansas just outdside of town from mountain home on 62 I think, I know it's going east out of town they had a fiberglass jon riverboat and a driftboat out front the store will be on your right going out of town hope that helps if I remember the name of the place I'll post it for ya the river boat was nice but the drift boat was not much to talk about
  23. had a few folks out on the river yesterday and both groups reported slow fishing one group was spin fishing and the other fly fishing they did catch a few trout here and there but numbers were low the water is still a bit high and is not coming down fast so keep a eye on river levels and expect the fishing to pick up once it gets below 800 cfs a plus side to the high waters is if you like the upper section ' above greer it can be done now hope everyone had a great thanksgiving and has a full belly
  24. made it over to current Tuesday and met a good friend there for a days retreat we started our morning at Tan Vat before the sun was up I already had two fish on but no success landing them when my friend arrived we made are way upstream on the banks trying to spot some fish to go after It didn't take long to see that the fish that were everywhere two months ago had gone somewhere else we could hardly spot a fish did any body else notice this ? but anyhow I still manage to catch a couple by fishing the deep holes and even by the bank of a shallow fast run after are little bush wacking adventure upstream we decide to drive down to are favorite little spot and walk in while kickin back for a moment gathering are heads and drinking coffee we met a nice fellow who lives near by as we watched him land a fish out of the very hole i just got done fishing and had no luck out of we chatted for moment and was on our way we were quickly into fish but just for a moment then slowed down again only two fish were worth a photo shot and they weren't the biggest in the river just something to look at again my friend did hook up with one of the giant browns that lurk in that stream he broke him off after a five min. fight ,which by the way a fish this big doesn't fight that hard just kinda sits there in charge of what is going on you can't move him he has to want to move but when the line broke he did surface and we got to see what the fuss was all about a brown with a girth that I he could only describe as the width of a magazine and two foot long or better, what a nice fish wish he could have got him in the net but any how here's a couple pictures for ya had two chubs take hold at the same time got a laugh out of it so I had to snap a shot also a few fish who had just prob. spawned and were just kinda play fighting around didn't even notice that they had drifted right by me I have had this happen about five times in the last week the right place at the right time a guess well injoy fly of day eggs and some little fly with red thread and peacock herl and red rubber legs haven't named it yet just caught a few fish on it
