  1. I came down with my family this weekend. Took out both boys today and tried to fish hard. Not one of us even got a bite. We could go 5 miles either direction of point ten. We would appreciate any input. What depth, what baits. Thanks,
  2. I want to say sorry for any that I offended. I have only made it down to table rock to fish 4 times in the last few years. I have posted 19 posts. I saw the post out there and did not see any response. What I meant by folks do not respond is that I do not any of you stating where the thermocline is currently. I do not see any of you folks stating if there is a top water bite early and late in the day. It is the usual drop shot advise. I do not know about stockjockey but I do not get out enough to have mastered drop shot, not do I have sufficient electronics. I felt bad for the chap that his post was out there and no singe person gave any advice on what to do. I do know that table rock is the hardest lake I have ever fished. A good day could be 5 fish for the average person. Did not mean to get so long winded. Sorry for upsetting any of you. I'm sure that you all are great people. Sincerely, Greg
  3. Jockey, You should know by now that the folks on this forum won't 'really help' a visitor. This site is a good old boys forum. I only fish down there a few times a year, however, I would recomend the following: Top water in mornings (I use Zara Spook) PB&J Jigs shad looking 4" grub spinner bait and plastics deep when the sun is high Hope this helps
  4. Wow, I can not believe that I just read this... 'Fishing isn't really good for fish in general and tournament fishing is particulary bad for them.' This was written by a well respected guide on another post in this forum. Why don't you all just admit the money is why you don't care if a bass dies in a tournament. It happens every day. I will be honest, I don't care either. I figure God gave us the earth to use (in a responsible manner). Eating the bass seems more responsible to me than fishing for money. If you all cared about the life of the bass you would use better processes to insure the survival of the Bass. Just calling it like it is.....

  6. Lets be honest here: God put the fish on the earth for us to eat. Simple fact that Stock Jockey stated. Also, all of you tournament fisherman that feel so stongly about C&R. I am guessing you do not want the bass to die. I think you need to establish some rules. I am a fairly good fisherman. In the summer months and winter months I have to go deep to catch the 'big ones'. Last year I cought 3 over 5 pounds. They were all deeper than 40 feet. They all died due to air in their bladder. I think we need to establish that not only should we close the fishing season in the spawn (Feb - June), we also need to close the the season in the summer months (July - September) and in the winter (November - February). This would help guarantee the viability of the Bass. Looks like October may be the only month that the risk of losing fish is the lowest. This is the time that they are feeding for the winter and should be the safest. Lets see what we can do to get this accomplished. You no what, I think for the betterment of the fish we should make fishing illegal then they would never die due to a sport. That all sounds idiotic, doesn't it. It is crazy that this all started with a guy who took a few fish home to feed a charity event. You are all so locked into your views that you all sound so silly. In fact, at this point, I think that I will make a point to keep whatever legal bass I catch and FRY them up. It is my God given right. Yummy
  7. This whole catch and release is crazy... You all have your heads in the sand. There is a significant mortality rate with C&R. If you think that this is incorrect your silly. The reason that the Rock is more difficult to fish is due to all the tournaments in the last decade. Thousands of fish are caught, hauled in boats all day, and they DIE!!!! Any one that thinks the bass kill from over a decade ago is why, needs mental help.
  8. Bill, I come down to the rock 2 - 4 times a year. I live in the Saint Louis area and need your help. My wife just bought me the 1197c si for Christmas and I was hoping I could hire you to go on my boat for a 1/2 or full day to teach me how to use it. I will be down in mid April, let me know. I am excited to learn how to use it and will certainly work with it prior. Please let me know. Thanks
  9. What are your patterns that you have the greatest strengths.
  10. I mostly use a bait caster. I use 14 pound flouro on them. I have 2 spinning reels that I put 8 pound flouro on. I use the Shimano Sonora 2500. I is a lower end spinning reel, however, I out cast anyone that is in my boat. I fished for 4 days this weekend at the rock and never had any issues with line twist. On the cloudy days I will use my bait casters. On Sunday it was very sunny and I used the spinning rigs that I have. I have owned them for 3 years and never had a problem. The sell for about $50 and come with an extra spool. Hope that helps.
  11. I normally bass fish. I am going down to Bowl Shoals over Labor Day weekend with my family. I will only be able to fish in mornings or late evening, but most likely in the mornings. We will be Boating with my friend during the days. I have heard that their are big walleye's in the northern part of the lake. I like catching fish and will have my 9 and 12 year old sons with me. Any direction would be great (Locations, depths, lures, etc.). Thanks, David
  12. I have to all you guides that I appreciate all the info you give. The rock is a tough lake to fish and you have always helped me focus on what to do. I only get 2 or 3 chances a year to fish it. Thanks, David
  13. I have never walleye fished, however I will be at bull shoals in two weeks. I will be with my wife and 3 kids, so I will only have mornings and evenings available. If any of you could give me some pointers that would be great. I have a gps fish finder with detail and can use this with some help from anyone willing to give it. Thanks, David

  15. I was wondering what time of the year the bridge works best. Does the water have to be within certain temperatures. Thanks, David
  16. I'm going to add my two cents. I think first of all that this is a great thread. I also think that fishing is like any other sport. You can tell me where to go, what to throw, and even how deep to fish it. If I do not posses the skill I will not catch any fish. I watched the golf tournament today, Tiger won. They repeatedly broke his swing and everything he did. Needless to say I can not golf like him. On a second note we all have our jobs and work hard at what we do. I am a financial advisor and am asked all the time what I am selling to my clients. I share openly to others. I do my job with as much passion as anyone and do a great job for my clients. My hobby is fishing and I will admit that I have only had the hobby for 3 years. I have managed learn a lot in the three years. I read books, magazines, talk to other fishermen, and fish whenever I get a chance. I will tell you that I watch other boats on the lake and if I can learn something from it I will. I do not mean to get you guides upset but you all have knowledge and people will do what they can to learn. Some people take it to far. Appreciate what you have and try to make the most of it. Complain to your spouses not on this thread. Thirdly, I do not believe that someone that knows your spot will put you out of business. Let is roll off your back. David
  17. You guides are blowing what Bill stated. I am a weekend fisherman, and try to make it down to the rock 3-4 times a year. I look to this forum for guidance, however, I don't think that all the guides give accurate info all the time. I am not saying you don't, but it is counter productive to your livelihood to give the goods. I understand the resort thing also. If you all believe that the rock is so tough why don't you get more specific. 'Fished Baxter area, most fish are at 25 feet. Caught them with a pumkin brushhog texas rigged, use a 3/8 oz bullet weight with 10 pound fluro.' If the skill of the fisherman is the number one factor it would not hurt to give this much detail. You guys are blessed to have a job where your on the lake most days and you have a wealth of info to offer to us learning. Some questions I have always wondered but never seen on this forum. What specific brand, size and kind of line do you all use for each application. (cranking, drop shotting, carolining, etc....) If you were me with each season which area of the lake would you focus on the most. What would you use. Questions like this would really help. Anyway just wanted to give you a second point of view, Thanks for all you do
  18. Well guys, here goes a fishing story that is true. Me and 3 other guys were fishing deep in the Kings river. We arrived at TRL late Thursday. We fished all day Friday and left Saturday at one. It is the most amazing fishing I have ever had. The bass were gorging on shad. In the morning we found two holes that literally bass were busting all over the top of the water. The bass would leave rings and all you would have to do is throw a junior spook in the middle of the rings and the bass would eat it. The honey hole would be good for about an hour. For the two days we would bounce from the two honey holes and caught about 350 bass. About 50 were keepers!!! I happened to be the lucky one that caught the two largest each day. They were not giants for the TRL standard but they were just shy of 4 pound each. When the shad were popping we caught the fish on rattle traps, spinner baits, zara spooks, plastics, and just about anything else you wanted. I have a few pictures I will attach. I hope to live long enough to have another outing this good. Three of us doubled (two on one lure at one time) and once we all four had a bass on our lines at one time. Thank you TRL. Hope the pictures loaded
  19. I will be staying just north of Arkansas on the Kings river arm, I have a fiberglass boat with a 150 horse motor so I would not be against going anywhere. Probably not interested in going real far north though. I have been fishing for about 3 years, throw a baitcaster very well, and have very good equipment. My favorite lure choices are a zara spook, jig and pig, shaky head, spinner bait or a crank bait. I normally stay in Aunts Creek area. I have never fished the Kings arm. Any info would be great. And I promise that I will give a report. There are 3 boats and six guys fishing this weekend. We will all be releasing everything we catch. I have only fished the TRL a few time and never had a whole lot of luck. I think that it was the conditions on the lake more than anything. I like to fish a couple of times a week and would love to get some confidence at TRL. It has to be the most beautiful lake I have ever fished. Thanks in advance to any folks who help.
