  1. Thanks for that, I was actually talking about the long-nose gar that lives in the creeks around here. For instance, Beaver Creek in Douglas and Taney Counties has a ton of gar. I've always been told that the gar wreak havoc on the bass populations. However, I always do pretty good when fishing Beaver Creek. So I was just wondering if everybody telling me that was full of it.
  2. Is it true that a large gar population in a creek can effect the bass population (i.e. eating them)?
  3. Nice. What stretch did you catch those on? Above Riverside?
  4. A buddy of mine is wanting to float while we got this flood on. Would any of the outfitters put anybody on the river when it's like this?
  5. I've caught a few crappie just below Ned Reynolds old house (not sure if he still lives there). Along that bluff is the only place I've caught any.
  6. I believe that if someone interferes or harasses with a person fishing within the banks of a stream or river that has been accessed in any legal manner, including but not limited to a public access administered by the Missouri Department of Conservation, then the harasser/interferer should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. The state of Missouri has laws in place to keep this from happening and yet it still happens all the time. The only way to stop this type of harassment and intimidation is to punish the law breakers. This stream, Shoal Creek, has obviously been deemed navigable by someone in the higher powers of the states government, or the MDC would not have put a public boat launch on the stream in order for the public to navigate it. I, Cody Dalton, a resident and taxpayer of the state of Missouri, demand that something be done in order to correct this wrong doing and to insure that it does not happen again.
  7. I like Country Rock, old and new. OMD on up to Blitzen Trapper Here's a topic about that if you want to look through it. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25556&st=0
  8. Good to see a report Russ. Me and Zac were talking about trying to get back down there in the month or so. Maybe we can dodge the microburst thunderstorms this time.
  9. You nailed it right there, and Smallmouth Joe also touched on it. It's education (or lack thereof). The majority of people with consistent access and interaction with these creeks don't look at them in the same light as the angler or conservationist. They see the creek not as a fragile resource--instead it's just something that is a pain in the butt when the waters up and they can't get across the slab, and they have to drive 20 miles out of the way to get to work. It's just there. Growing up in Southern Douglas county, I've seen the numerous misuses of the creeks, to both flora and fauna. However, I wouldn't consider the guilty malicious--just uninformed. Currently, in my opinion, watershed protection isn't on the minds of the locals, and that may or may not ever change.
  10. I haven't been to Brownbranch proper in a couple years, but I'd say Caney Branch is intermittent at best. As for the Beaver, you won't be disappointed, it's a great stretch of creek and very scenic. There is an outfitter in Brownbranch. But I would suggest going to any of the several slabs (low water crossings) in the general area and wading.
  11. Yeah Brownbranch is on the Beaver about 7 miles upstream from Bradleyville. My dad is from Brownbranch, I grew up fishing that whole area, no trout there.
  12. I've always struggled with "seen" and "saw". I suppose it's cause my family's from Booger County...
  13. Cool, let me know if you figure anything out.
  14. I don't know if this is the stream they're talking about, but it's all I could find.
  15. Had some time to kill today at work... I found Brown Branch Stream, it's in North Springfield. It's the stream that dumps into Valley Water Mill Lake. 2799 E. Farm Road 102 Springfield MO - punch this address into google earth or google maps, and the stream is just north of the houses there. (Picture from Google Earth)
  16. Caught this on the upper Finley behind a friend of mine's house Yesterday morning on green pumpkin bitsy tube. This is the only fish I caught all morning. I'm guessing my lure somehow fell into the fish's mouth as it drifted to the bottom. Good news is the creek and it's ever-changing ways has created new fishing holes for the summer.
  17. Yeah, don't do it. I went yesterday after work. Up in the John's Ford area. I only made it a few hundred yards upstream before aborting the mission. I did manage to catch two smalls on a bitsy tube fished VERY slow. It's like all the fish were in a coma. I'll try again in about a month.
  18. I'm thinking about hitting the upper finley this weekend, with temps in the 80s you think the waters warm enough for some wader-less wading?
  19. No, I haven't been fishing the past couple weeks. The darn wind won't stop blowing. It's like we're livin in South Dakota or something. Let me know if you go and catch anything, I'll probably head up there this weekend.
  20. Yeah I know a guy that was grabbing whites down there. I told him he's an idiot and he'll get fined, I told him 1000 dollars a fish lol, he's only 16 so maybe that'll make him quit.
  21. Went to Taylor bridge early this morning. Didn't catch anything. I moved up to Orleans bridge and caught 1 sow and 2 males on white roadrunner with a white swimming minnow.
  22. Anybody been to the Little Sac today? How's the water? I was going to head up there this evening, just wondering if it rained too much.
  23. Just the white maribou jig worked for me. I hope it doesn't rain today, this weekend could be good fishing up there.
  24. I caught some big walleye about this time last year on white roadrunners. I was about 200 yds south of Orleans bridge. Seemed like I had the best luck real early in the morning.
  25. Last year I had a lot of luck with white swimmin minnows at Taylor
