Power Bait Never Heard This Before
jimf1969 replied to oneshot's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
are you sure the ticket is for the bait. Sounds to like you are getting a ticket for killing fish and throwing back dead fish. that is against the law. -
I was told that BSSP does a kid fishing day above the whistle bridge. Can someone tell me when it will be this year

Re. Trout Fishing Before Afghanistan / Night Fishing
jimf1969 posted a topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
First off i would like to thank you all for the help. It was because of all of you that the trip was a success. I would especially like to thank Leonard. He went above and beyond the norm when it came to helping us. He showed up Thursday night and put on a clinic. Told us how, when and where to fish for them Taney trout. He gave us several flies and told us how to use them He has that night fishing thing down. My hat is off to you my friend. Can't thank you enough Leonard. As for the fishing report well like I said it was all because of Leonard. Between the three of us we caught 70+ fish in 4 hours. I can't believe how hard those trout hit at night, almost pull the rod out of my hands. We all hooked what we would call monsters, ( over 4lbs). Mitch caught one of them. ( pics to follow) Thanks again to all for the help. -
Yes That has some great info in it,but, it seems to be more about big browns than night fishing. I was just wanting to know what types of flies trout can see at night. Can they see a size 14 scud? do i need to use something bigger like woolies or streamers? As far as Someone helping that would be great., but, We don't want to put anyone out. Just want to enjoy the lake, the time spent chasing trout and meet some new fisherman. A couple of cold beers wouldn't hurt either.

Will be bringing my nephew to Taney before he is sent to Afghanistan. we will no doubt try night fishing for some of Taney's trout. Is there any tips you could give us. should we try wet flies, jigs, scuds at night? We will spend all of our time up in the trophy area and any info will be appreciated. Thanks again Jim F

Thanks for the help guys. We may do both BSSP & Taney. Hope to see some of ya down there on Taney. Not sure where Royal point is , but might have to take ya up on the lodging. As for the gear I think we will be alright with my stuff. I have one fly rod and two ultra light spinning rigs. Thanks for the offer. I would hate to break someone else's stuff. Now. like I said my nephew has no experience trout fishing, but my brother and myself have been going to Montauk & BSSP since we were kids. I have only been to Taney once, that was last year. I had a great time and am looking forward to getting back there. Thanks again for every thing. Jim F

I am wanting to take my brother and his son trout fishing before his son gets deployed to Afghanistan next month. He ( my nephew ) has never been before, so, his father is flying in from pennsylvania on the 29Th of this month. we are either going to BSSP or Taney. Was hoping he would catch some trout. Would loan him some of my gear to get the job done. Now, I know we can catch some at Bennett. Was wandering if you think the fishing would be good on Taney that week. Water level? Have you all been catching them recently? What do you think, BSSP or Taney? I have called BSSP and they have lodging open that week so that won't be on issue. thanks for any help making this a memorable fishing trip. Jim F

No you can't pee up a rope, but, you can kick his fat butt.

I did talk to a ranger about it. According to him that guy did nothing that the ranger could stop. Ya see, he did nothing illegal, nothing criminal. Only when it gets physical can the Ranger do something. Had I hit that fat POS in the mouth, then I would have been in trouble. He (the Ranger) claims that the guy showed no edicate. Towards me, or anyone else for that matter, He (the Ranger ) seemed to hint at the possibility that i should have got him ( the fat guy) to hit me in the mouth, then he (the ranger ) could have done something about it. Seems a bit far to go just to catch some fish with kids don't ya think..... Next time he (the fat guy) will hook me.... The fat guy that uses a fly rod as a weapon needs to be taught a lesson. Either in court or the parking lot.

Thank you Greg. You seem to under stand my point. I'm not special, I don't want the whole place to myself. Just want to have fun with my kids and catch a few trout.
-
True. I believe that when we take our fly rods to these more family friendly spots, it is up to us to expect to be crowded and to watch out for everyone else.
-
This is a lesson for the fat guy. He needs this onfo.

I'm not complaining that I didn't have enough room in the well groomed community hole. I expect a little elbow to elbow in these places sometimes, its just the way it is. I went there because I had kids with me 6, 9, 11 years old. I was 8 or 10 feet down stream from the fat POS. I have been going to BSSP for 35 years. I have seen just about everything. I've seen guys in waders wade right in front of me and my kids and start using their fly rods.I too have a fly rod, and, I would never walk in front of anyone. Some people think that if you use a fly rod you have the right of way. It's just not true. Something else to think about, If you go to cast your rod and hook someone. Who's liable? Even if it's an accident. If the person that you have hooked wants too, Can you be sued?

I took my brother in law and our boys to Bennett this past weekend, we had a good time for the most part. I ran into a great big fat guy just below the dam for the second year in a row. He is the most rude SOB I think I've ever seen. Both times I've been around him he uses his fly rod as a weapon to keep people away from him and his honey hole. When i got to the dam he was sitting in a lawn chair on the bank with some old guy. I waded out and started drifting a fly under a strike indicator. He started to cast his fly rod from his chair and let it drift down onto my legs then he would rip it across my legs. I just ignored him hoping he would snag me, he did not, then he waded out and turned so his back cast went right over my head. We were about 12 feet apart. he whipped it back and forth 15 or 20 times without landing it in the water. He would look over his shoulder to see if I was in the path of his favorite weapon ( his fly ). He finally hooked my fly and float. This is the second time I have seen him do this to people, most will just leave, I did not. He is a poor excuse for a sportsman. Had my kids not been there one of us would have gone to jail. Accidents happen, I get that, What he does is no accident. Be on the look out for him you can't miss him, He's the big fat guy with a poor disposition. P.S. He considers himself armed and dangerous!
