  1. Good work, russ... Just think what you could do with REAL help...
  2. Phil, I sent you a message about my boss who is on a chainsaw crew here and they are working Springfield this afternoon. Don't want to post his cell number, but if anyone wants to volunteer to help, let me know and I'll get you in touch with him.
  3. Hey Brian... that's good to know. I didn't realize that was your place. Been by there, but never stopped in. Dubya, Both... But seems the deeper pools are a little better most of the time. If you get to Bayou and they are not lined up, start at the upper end at the shoals and work your way down and even around the bend. Good fishing all along that area. At Dam 3, there is a nice pool at the end of the parking lot that sometimes holds a BUNCH of fish. I pulled 30-40 one morning nymphing a spot about 10 ft long and 3 ft wide there. Not all stockers either. Several 15-16s with a couple of 18 inchers. Many spots in the Spring have the "moss" that dots the bottom. Fishing the edges of these can be deadly at times. Then the deeper pools will hold several fish... Honestly, I've not found a "bad" spot to fish the Spring.
  4. Many Islands is just upstream from the confluence with Myatt Creek which is about the end of the trout waters. Bayou is quite a bit upstream from MI. Check out mapquest's areal images of the river or google earth. County road 2027 is the road to Bayou Access off Bayou Road. The "main" trout accesses from the spring down are: Dam 1/Mammoth Spring State Park Riverbend Lassiter Cold Springs (boat ramp... not much trout wading) Dam 3 Bayou Access Riverside (private - campground) Spring River Oaks (private - campground) Many Islands (private - campground) IF you can get in, there is some really good fishing just below Spring River Oaks. What are the falls called there, CC? For my money, I fish Bayou, Dam 3, and Lassiter in that order with the best results.
  5. One of my best days on the Spring was getting into a school of 4-6 inch chubs. I must have caught 200 of the stupid things... All caught and released... Momma ain't cookin' no steeenkin' chubs...
  6. Dano, Plus shipping or did that include shipping?
  7. Wait... what am I laughing at? I'm a professional chub catcher...
  8. I was there a Saturday in the fall. THAT was bad enough. Can't imaging opening day....
  9. Yep, Jon, I have a similar story... My first tying was at a clinic our club in Jonesboro held. Dennis "Bear" Reed sat me down in front of his vice and helped me with a San Juan Worm. That was just to get me use to the bobbin and thread. Then on to a wooly bugger. It was as nasty looking a fly as I've ever seen... even though I tie about as nasty now as I did then... The fellow who got me interested in fly fishing had told me "there ain't nuthin' like the feeling of catching a nice fish on a fly you tied yourself." Well, that bit of philosophy proved itself true a couple of days after tying that first wooly. I caught a nice 16 in 'Bow on it and am hooked on tying for life! From the looks of it, I'd say you'll have a very good chance of finding that out with that fly, Mikey... As for "whip finishing"... I hope you did give the thread a few half hitches before super gluing. Some guys don't whip finish at all... just a few half hitches and some head cement and they are done...
  10. Even though the 11 year old of the house is "bored stiff" when the power is out, we have food, hot water (gas water heater) and heat (gas fireplace.) The food is out of the fridge and in the garage. And it's nice and quiet without all the standard "noise" of electrical devices. The wife, kid, dogs, cat, fish, guinea pig, and horse are fine and well. No trees fell on the house or the vehicles. I consider myself very fortunate... Hope everyone else is doing as well...
  11. No need... the vicious Yorkies here at the homestead take care of any and all big dogs... Welcome to the forum Gundog...
  12. Click here for a map of the Spring River... To access Bayou Acess (redundantly redundant, I know...) you have to take Hwy 9 to Hwy 289. There are plenty of signs to direct you to Bayou and it's some of the best fishing at times. As for avoiding the Spring in the summer, you just have to work the canoe hatch. Fish Bayou or below early in the morning, then when the first canoe comes through, move to Lassiter or Riverbend or the park. You can also fish the west fork at Dam 3. Later, move to Dam 3 from the parking lot down.

  14. I DO! I DO!! 417-569-2559
  15. Ice report from Nixa....
  16. Well, I brewed coffe on the grill yesterday and just as it finished, the power came back on. I cooked bacon, egs, and biscuits on my sterno stove this morning, and as the last eggs were firming up, the power came on again. I guess if it goes out again, I'll just start cooking.... It's been a crap shoot on power all weekend... off then on then off then on then off....
  17. Nixa was right on the freeze line yesterday afternoon. Drizzle started freezing on the trees. Lost power about midnight, back on at 2:30 am... Then off again about 5am, on at 6 off at 7, on again at 10:30.... Streets are OK... just the trees and power lines suffering.
  18. Just tied up a trio of flies to add to my Taney arsenal... Dang... I can still tie... Not pretty... but I can still tie... even WITHOUT MY GLASSES!!!
  19. Davy, The Fly South website (www.flysouth.net) is "under construction" but did have a pretty neat opening flash. Can't access any products or order from them there. Is there an alternate URL you have on them? Hope I can make it to Boliver for your presentation.
  20. I know several fly fishermen who are beginning to prefer standard ring guides vs. snake guides... One theory is that snake guides allow two friction points during the cast as opposed to only one friction point with the ring guides...
  21. I've had trout take a fly that reminded me of a bass devouring a top water plug... But most of the time, it is a very subtle take. Recently (OK.. a couple months ago) I was swinging a wooly when it just kind of slowed down... not stopped... just slowed to a crawl... After a moment, I felt a little "tap" in the rod and set the hook.... I didn't land it, but it was well over 22 inches and more like over 24 inch trout. When you are standing there "shuffling" (by accident of course...) watch those trout at your feet feed. You'll get the idea just how subtle they do take a fly. If you've ever "tight line" fished for Crappie, it's similar... Hey... I started with a $29 Shakespeare fly fishing "kit" from WalMart... Still have that rod... But I don't use it for a goose kite anchor....
  22. Yep... when I moved here, I started hanging out on this forum more. GREAT bunch of guys on here (even Duane aka Duckydoty... ) I had my left knee "scoped" about five years ago and it's pretty much back to normal. But the right one with the partial replacement is making me wonder if I'll EVER walk normally again. Of course, I'm impatient when it comes to this and I want to be back 100 percent NOW!!!! Hope to see you at some point when you're down. Make sure Ducky shows you where the BIGGUNS hang out on Taney... and maybe you can borrow Leonard's big trout whistle... Glad to see you on the forum. Another member with some great input...
  23. You haven't seen ME cast yet... One reason I like to fish at night....
  24. Good find.... good videos!!
  25. Welcome to the forum... yep.. sounds like you got it together...
