A Little Christmas Reminder For You Guys...
Terry Beeson replied to Terry Beeson's topic in General Chat
Go to the Christmas Shopping Help thread and you'll see... the link there works. -
BK, I recently purchased an N8008 myself with a few lenses. Basically, any lens that has a Nikon ("F") mount will fit a Nikon camera including the N8008. The Autofocus feature of the N8008 makes it nice in that any Autofocus (AF) lens will focus with it, although not as fast as the new dSLRs... The AF-S or Sigma's HSM will not focus on the N8008 or similar because they use an internal motor in the lens to focus. The N8008 has a motor in the body that turns a "screw" in the AF lens to focus. Of course you can also turn it off and manually focus the AF. The internal motor types do have manual focus, but I haven't tried that feature on the N8008. Is there something particular you're looking for? That N8008 is a sweet camera. Got it and a 28-70mm lens for a SONG. I also got a new D40 dSLR from Santa this year. BOTH really sweet. I'd suggest you go to www.nikonians.org and get some great advice from a lot of great photo geeks. There is a section dedicated to the Autofocus film bodies such as the N8008 and other equipment. I've learned a lot about the tech end just in a few weeks of being on there. You'll learn more than you ever want to know about lenses... My lens list... so far... ProMaster 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 52mmǾ Vivitar MC 70-210mm 4.5-5.6 55mmǾ ProMaster 70-300 4-5.6 LD TeleMacro 62mmǾ Sigma DC 55-200mm 4-5.6 55mmǾ And for the D40 Nikon AF-S 55-200mm Ǿ Nikon AF-S 15-55mm 3.5-5.6 G II ED 52mmǾ

How Do You Read The Generation Projection Chart?
Terry Beeson replied to tippet7's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
CFM is a better gauge of how much water is moving. The number of units is more or less useless to an extent. Just because a unit is running does not mean it is open to capacity. So, there may be one unit running at full or two units running at 60% or 4 running at 30%. I know... confusing.... but I pretty much stay kun-fuzzled when it comes to generation... -
You're on Nikonians, Ronnie? I joined a couple of weeks ago... BTW... Got a D40 for Christmas... LOVE it....

How Do You Read The Generation Projection Chart?
Terry Beeson replied to tippet7's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
You read it like you would a science fiction novel... Don't believe most of it... -
Since I've got some kind of bug making me cough my head off, I have somethin' even better'n shine... Did I reallly say that? Anyway, the stuff my doc gave me is pretty good stuff.

That's my point... Yes, everyone has and is entitled to their opinion... As long as I agree with it... (Just kiddin') Duane... What have you got this girl smokin'?

I can tell you that having Cuts and Brooks on the Norfork, Bull Shoals, and Greers Ferry (Little Red) tail waters adds a demension to the fishing in Arkansas. You can go for a "Arkansas Trout Grand Slam" by catching all four - Bow, Brown, Brook, and Cut along with a CutBow - in one day.

Threads, Yarns, Chenille, Hooks - What To Buy?
Terry Beeson replied to DaddyO's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Apparently Jeremy and Dano didn't read the "Brain Trust" and "Gentlemen" part of your question.... sheesh.... No... both are right on. And OK... pretty much part of the brain trust. The gentleman part is still up for debate.... I think it's like anything else we tend to get into. You'll buy a few basic materials for what you want to tie, then you'll go to the fly shop and think "Dang I bet that would make a nice color for that fly" or "Wow, I like how that dubbing looks better than the other dubbing I have" or "What was it (insert any fly tying mentor name here) told me I needed for that great fly I saw?" and soon you'll find that Michael, Tim, Phil, and the other guys are all moving into big multi-million dollar masions and smokin' Cuban cigars and flyin' their private Lear Jets to exotic fly fishing locations because of all the money you've spent on 50 lifetime supplies of fly tying material. But ya gotta have all that stuff.... And if you tell my wife otherwise, I'll burn your house down.... But, really... you've got some good advice so far. Can't offer anything more. -
Naw.... It's that special "Power Bait and Green Giant Nibblets" fly Michael uses that actually assures his customers get fish.... Soooooo.... Using any other artificial bait/matieral is ok... so long as it's not pegged beads.... I'm SOOOO kun-fuzzed....

Nice tie, Jeremy...

How To Keep Your Feet Warm
Terry Beeson replied to Doug Weston's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Reasonable to assume it will work. I've heard about this a long time ago, but had forgotten about it. Think it was in my smart-aleck cynical days way in the past.... (Who says "What do you mean 'the past?" -
I'll second that motion....

Most people don't even give it a second thought. But being one of those "country boys" who will survive, I tend to make preparations for things like that in a rational manner. I don't have water and canned goods horded in a bunker out back, but I do have plenty of flashlights, camping gear, etc. to survive things like earthquakes, ice storms, etc. Also keep plenty of ammo on hand in case the neighbors turn into vampire-like zombies who only come out at night.... Wait.... their like that NOW!!!!! During the great ice storm, we stayed in our house and did not really suffer at all. Plenty of food, hot coffee, and heat via gas fireplace. Didn't lose any meat from the freezer (afterall, it was 25 deg in the garage...) all without renting a motel room or staying with family as almost everyone in our subdivision did. On another note, I work for St John's and we have a disaster plan in place in the event that there is a major earthquake along the New Madrid fault. I've seen the plan and if there is a major quake, we will be taking a lot of the casualties here. So, someone IS planning for it...

OK... I'm going to chime in here as I do have a stake in some of this. The area you're talking about, Taxidermist, is my "back yard" in that I grew up there. I have lots of friends and some family who are having an economic BOOM because of what is going on in the area. I have some land and mineral rights, as do my sister and mother, in the area and they are putting a couple of pads in the next section over from mine in the next few weeks. This has already helped my sister retain her business which has been in my family for over 100 years and would probably be closed right now if not for the people coming through there now. Also, there is a AGFC WMA a mile or so from her store and she has seen a little, but not much, business from folks hunting and fishing and bird watching there. However, they drilled a well there last spring and it helped her business and my mom will benefit from having some mineral rights in the section as soon as they get back in and set up to start pumping. Problem is, since it's on the WMA, they had to shut down for hunting season. This influx of drilling has provided jobs for a LOT of folks in that area where all of the factories but one have pulled out and the last one is in deep doo-doo and laying off folks. It's also given some landowners cash to help through a hard time. I lease the hunting rights and the pasture on my land, but it only covers the taxes and upkeep. If there is a well on it, that will pay a lot more. Another point... There was a test well drilled on my dad's farm back in the late 80s and I DARE you to tell me where the pad was. Even less than a year after they pulled out, you could not tell there was anything there other than they cleaned up an old ditch that was there and put up a new fence and a gate in the area along with a nice driveway. Actually increased the value of the 40 acres that he sold a few years after that. There are abandoned pads and a lot of producing wells in the area that I would have to drive you right up to them before you will see them. And I have seen deer, turkey, squirrels, etc. all around them. Now, I'm not saying let's just let every Tom, Dick, and Harry come in and do whatever they feel like doing and leave things in a mess. But, I can tell you that the energy companies that I've dealt with have a firm hold on what they must do in order to put things back like they were before. And you are correct, Taxi, that the feds are all over them on a daily basis. There is a very sensitive balance that must be held and I am all for that. I'm all for protecting these areas and these items need to be addressed. But I'm not for just putting up a "no gas wells" sign either. I kind of like my gas fireplace, fish cooker, and heating system along with the hot water in my shower.

Terry Beeson replied to flyfshn's topic in General Angling Discussion
VERY KEWL, MIKE!!!! On BOTH parts!!!! Have you got to cast the rod yet? They are sweet, but a little fast for me in the 5wt. But I will say I had a hard time casting a BAD loop with it. It's on my list for my birthday present.... -

Ducky... you Kwack Head.... Have you blown the RNT Kwack Pipe yet? Killer for timber hunting. I have an RNT, a couple of Haydels including an old barrel type, and a couple more. I really like the RNT. My CHOICE would be one actually made by the hands of Chick Majors, but a Dixie Mallard from him or his daughter or son-in-law would be nice....
