  1. Dang... I gotta talk to Rick at Conclave... All I get is some damaged cork rings to chew. Can't even swallow...
  2. Tom, Sorry I missed ya at Sowbug! But isn't this a bit like pleading "no contest?" "I don't admit I did anything wrong, but I'm willing to pay for it..."
  3. "Tell 'em Danny Boy sent ya...." What commission do you get, Dan? Same as Rick Pope gives me for promoting TFO?
  4. Yep... Tim does use one as a matter of fact... Which model do you have, Steve? The weight of the empties range from 6 oz to less than 2 lb (30 oz) so they are not that heavy at all. And the design makes them easy to wear. The few guys that I know that have them swear by them...
  5. What? You didn't have to run "Maddog Mike" out of JFK? I'm kind of partial to solitude fishing myself. But I bet you won't get that option at JFK much longer.
  6. David, Give them a call. They may not have the 7-8 wt kits listed, but I betcha they would put one together for you... Dano has the number I think... and the contacts... I think he's a rep for them...
  7. Joe uses a Richardson chest fly box (click here) He can carry a TON of flies in that thing with all kinds of variations to "match the hatch" down to the size and color. It looks "bulky" to me, but Joe sure swears by it. OH... and I'm certain he uses the "Joe Humphreys" series box...
  8. You know how to tell if a lawyer is lying, don't you Dano? His lips move.... OK... it's just a joke... but send your cards and letters to tbeeson (at) hotmail (dot) com...
  9. Thanks for the info, guys. I like that White Bass tug for sure and now I won't feel bad about pitchin' 'em back... and watchin' the faces of the guys around me wonderin' why...
  10. (Waving a big hubcap size bun topped with hot fresh smoky chopped pork under Dano's nose...) There is a place in Texarkana off the beaten path a bit called "Big Jake's Smokehouse." Great barbeque that would rival many (at least it would 10 years ago...) Their motto is "Some may beat our prices, but NObody beats our meat..."
  11. Didn't Corky's have a place in Mt Home that shut down last year or so? Did it "measure up" to the Memphis standards? The one in Jonesboro was close, but no cigar to the Memphis Corky's. But I agree with RR about Interstate and Rendevous. But honestly, I miss "The Shack" in Little Rock. The OLD Shack... on Cantrell behind the old Shipley's Donuts and the pharmacy... Not the one that claims to be The Shack off 65th. My BIL makes a mean mess of ribs, but I have a friend in Batesville with a big smoker that knows how to make a brisket or pork shoulder that will make you slap yo' momma!!!! Just gotta slip a couple slabs of ribs in there someday... Dang, guys... All I got is a turkey sandwich for lunch. And I'm HON-GRY now for some good BBQ!!!!
  12. Just another example of how greed is going to be the eventual ruin of the human race... And another reason I don't participate in very many competative sporting events... even fishing ones.
  13. Well, honestly, call me a skeptic or whatever, but I'm not holding my breath until a reliable source (like John Berry) posts something about the work actully starting and then I'll only hold it long enough for another post stating the work is done and appears to be effective. And all the finger pointing between the states is VERY childish. We are ALL in this thing and ALL 50 states and the whole human race are to blame for this problem. We all eat and support the ag industry and want our food to be cheap. And we all want a big house on a hill overlooking (insert your favorite watershed or other natural area here.)
  14. Don't take this as anything "slamming" you, russ. I am simply asking out of ignorance of the facts. When I was introduced to the White Bass run years ago, my fishing buddy who took me made the commment that the White Bass fight so hard during the run that any that are culled or break off would most likely die due to the levels of lactic acid. So I never considered "catch and release" for White Bass. Is this the case or is this an "old wive's tale?" I'd like to get in on the White Bass run, but have been reluctant since I'm not a BIG fan of them on the dinner table and didn't want to kill them just for the sport. I like them, but only about a "mess" or two...
  15. Click here and take a look at Dorber's offerings. These are sweet rods and you can go to Flippin, AR to pick it out...
  16. Any barbeque joints worth the time in Mt Home or its 'burbs, John? Rib Crib and Smokey Bones are pretty good chains here in Springfield. Buckingham's in Nixa is hit or miss. But I've heard Crosstown is the best. Have yet to get out there. Anyone around here have an opinion or Springfield area BBQ?
  17. Don't worry, Don... Yes, Leonard gave me a fly but he sprayed some trout repellant on it before giving it to me...
  18. "Mama said they was magic shoes. They could take me anywhere. "Now you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was ever going somewhere, I was running!"
  19. Hey Brian... I keep thinking if I brag enough on Harry and his rods that someday I'll walk by his booth and he'll say something like, "You know, I've sold about 20 rods to guys who said you talked them into it. Hey... I've got this 9 ft 6 wt that I built just for you... Here... Take it home with you..." I ain't holdin' my breath though... Arki... So you went to my "How NOT to tie a fly" workshop... Are you a member of NEAFF?
  20. Ah... and don't forget Beale Street and tamales at Blue's City Cafe... Then all the blues - B B King's, Alfred's, Rum Boogie... Not to mention the outdoor stuff and street musicians. And you can't go wrong with the dueling pianos at Silky O'Sullivan's... I did "Memphis in May" a couple of years ago during the BBQ contest. Man... talk about good eats!!! But it's all about the ribs, bud... Good ribs RULE!!!
  21. Jeez... you guys are brutal! The final scene from "Braveheart" comes to mind... The probability of getting caught are slim in most of these cases unless someone does witness the act and "drop a dime" on the violator. That's why things like this are pretty common and blatant. And I fear society as a whole has become too tolerant of such acts.
  22. Scheetz, you have WAY too much time and software on your hands...
  23. If the wind was like it was Saturday, I don't know how you did it, JB... At least up by BSD, you got a wind direction change between your backcast and forward cast and then another after the fly began to drop to the water and then again after it started to drift... Yep... an 18 incher off the top is a good day!
  24. I knew that, Dano... but I figured John had that "Old Timers" disease so I was playing along... Don... Sorry I missed you. I went to JB's seminar but missed Fox's. I'd like to do that one even though I've read a lot and talked a bit with Fox on the subject.
  25. You forgot Harry's name? Wow... Harry is one of those guys hard to forget anything about him... Naw... I know what you mean. I'm HORRIBLE when it comes to remembering names. Right Deano?... I mean Dano? Anyway, yes... Harry will in all likelyhood be back in October for the Conclave. I think it is a conspiracy to keep me drooling over his rods and tempt me like holding a piece of chicken over the killer Yorkies' noses and not letting them have it... And I'm willing to bet Harry might make a trip to Mt Home between now and then...
