  1. Hey David... you bringin' your grass rods with ya? You guys take care of David and show him a good time night fishin' Taney... I've already given him the secret to keeping the Giant Man-Eating Taneycomo Killer Squid from making a snack out of him... Not sure if he's "in the know" of the other spooks down there, tho... I have a "fun filled family mini-vacation" this weekend, so won't be down there... MAYbe Sunday night if we get back in time...
  2. Click here to get the schedule for the day and the number... 866-494-1993 Note that this is the schedule for the current day. They will updated the next day schedule around 5pm the day before. Supposedly, the weekend schedule (Sat and Sun) is available after 5pm Friday... Be sure you look at the top of the schedule to make sure you are on the right DATE... Also, you will want to call before you take off because the schedule doesn't always hold true...
  3. You're not thinkin' of becomin' one of those "fly fishermen" are you, GF?
  4. It was just me growlin' about missin' fish...
  5. I'm in.... No, I won't commit at this point, but I'll do my best. Geez... that's the Friday before the plant shuts down on Monday... if things don't change... I'll need to celebrate... We MIGHT accidently get Duckydoty to do some fishing down there, too if we twist his arm really really hard...
  6. Two fishermen are walking across a bridge... They both need to take a leak, so they walk to the side of the bridge and start doing their business... The bait fisherman says, "MAN that water's cold!" The fly fisherman says, "Yeah, and it's DEEP TOO!!!"
  7. Nobody goes to Opening Day at Bennett or Roaring River... it's too crowded!!! (Thanks Yogi Berra...)
  8. Earl is a great fly tyer and retired from 3M years ago. He uses a lot of 3M products in his fly tying including using (Has to be Scotch tape per Earl.. ) Scotch tape on the back of feathers to keep the fibers together when making wings or claws. He's in his late 70s early 80s, lives in Cotter, AR and LIVES to tie realistic flies. You should look him up at Conclave or Sowbug. Very innovative, interesting, and delightful fellow for sure...
  9. Dija heer that, Leonard.... We is EX-PURTS!!! (If'n you ONLY knew, George... if you only knew... ) WHOA!... Friday? The 13th? I have trictadectaphobia... Can't fish that day... or night... Gotta stay home under the covers with my head covered up...
  10. Jeremy, You been hangin' out with Earl Stanek? You can make nice craw pinchers like that as well... Learned that one from Earl...
  11. And if she believes that, I have a pair of 400 year old earrings worn by the queen of England I can let her have for a mere $2,000... PLUS a lifetime membership to the WalMart shopping club for a mere $500...
  12. Yeah, that kind of reminds me of the time I was coming out of Taney and there were four bait fishermen in the parking lot looking at their car. I asked if there was a problem. One replied they had locked their keys in the car. They debated on what to do for about an hour before I got there. Finally one of them asked if I had a hammer or something similar he could bust out a window with... Then one of the others asked if I could hurry and get it for them... They needed to get in as quickly as possible... It was about to rain and they needed to get the top up... Then there was the bait fisherman I ran into in the supermarket. He was staring at a can of orange juice... I asked him why... he replied it said "concentrate" on the can... Then there was the bait fisherman who came up to me on Taney and was showing me the new cell phone his wife had gotten him for his birthday. The phone rang. It was his wife. She asked how he liked his new cell phone. He said, "GREAT! But how did you know I was at Taney?" I asked one bait fisherman why he liked to fish. He said he wanted to learn how to water ski instead, but couldn't find a lake with a slope... How about the baitfisherman who called the computer tech line and complained he couldn't get his computer to work because the screen said "hit any key" and he could not find the "any" key... Then there was the baitfishermen who took their mapquest directions to find a place where some guys had told them there was excellent bear hunting. They were almost there when they got to the next step on the driving directions. It said "Bear left." So they turned around and came home... And you can't talk bait fishermen without thinking about the ones who went ice fishing... They came home with 2,000 lbs of ice.... and drowned trying to fry it... Of course I have to ask how you make a bait fisherman laugh on Friday.... You tell him a joke on Monday... Hey GF... we might want to stop this... We're gonna make the other fishermen - fly and bait - think we're serious...
  13. What Leonard said... I like the area below outlet 1 if it isn't TOO crowded... But if I'm there, I'll cast a big sculpin at your head if you get too close... OH... wait.. that's only if you're Leonard or Duckydoty...
  14. F2F... Who is doing your surgery and where? You will NOT regret it if you do the exercises and rehab like they tell you. Still some stiffness in my knee from the scar tissue, but they say that will come with more time.
  15. My alternator keeps alternatin' My generator keeps generatin' My starter keeps startin' And my piston keeps on... well... As for saving gas.... nope...
  16. What do you want to fish for? Beaver Lake and the tailwaters are close.
  17. Wow... does THAT bring back memories... Nuttin' like bein' raised in the country and findin' those forms of entertainment... I hope you didn't use PowerBait to catch the horsefly and that you released them unharmed after flying them around...
  18. I keep lookin' at some of those flies you guys are tyin' and wonder when they stocked Taney with Tarpon!! Hey Leonard... you're suppose to use a US tape measure... not metric... Yeah... I usually net all my creek chubs just for show... But I'm replacing my net with a minnow dip net so they look a lot bigger in the pictures...
  19. Hi... I'm Terry... and I'm... I'm... I'm hooked... on .... on... PHEESH PORN!!!!!! THERE... I SAID IT!!! Nice PHEESH by the way, FM...
  20. Tim... you hit on a good point. I would say shorter casts are a key. I tend to cast my streamers "out there" in most of the water I fish - Taney, BS and Norfork tail waters. Casting a #10 conehead wooly with a 3wt 40-50 feet might not be a good idea on a consistant basis... But 20 ft casts around RR would be OK.
  21. Just a spring chicken... Sheesh...
  22. You never buy beer or coffee... you only rent them... Why never camp at Dawt again? Just curious... Sounds like a good trip with lots of memories that will last dad and son...
  23. It will, but that's a bit oversized. A 3wt rod/line is more for around a 24/22 to 16/14 hook size. For a size 10 fly (ESPECIALLY with any weight - lead or bead or conehead) you should go at least 5wt to 10wt. On a 3wt, you'll find unweighted size 10s will "tug" at your rod tip during the backcast and actually waste some of the load. If it's weighted, it gets worse. I would go down to a size 14 unweighted or 16 weighted on a 3wt.
  24. JC, When Cindy and I were dating, I got caught in a downsizing. Spent the next six months living just over the hill from the Spring River in Mammoth Spring, AR (Cindy's place) and became a "semi-pro" fly fisherman. That means I fished every day but did not get paid... So, been there, done that... I've still got until the middle of July (which ain't that far off...) before I will have my nervous breakdown... A few phone interviews and one face to face interview have helped. But I need an offer... interviews don't pay the rent...
