  1. I would be a bit careful on what I use. Some depends on where it is. If it is a spot that has a lot of flex, superglue or Sally Hansen (which I use for head cement as well) may just crack after several casts. I would take it to a pro rod repair type person or at least get some advice from them before using any "home remedies" especially if the rod has any value. Speaking of which, you didn't mention what brand or if it was a "home built" from a blank. If it happens to be a Dorber blank, I'd be willig to bet they folks in Flippin would be glad to share a repair remedy with you.
  2. Phil, TWO EXCELLENT posts... thank you kind sir... There is a Korean Presbyterian Church right here in Nixa folks... And JD... you might want to do some re-research. No. 1, the Jonesboro shootings occurred a year before Columbine. If you are referring to the Paducah, KY killings, that was 4 months PRIOR to Jonesboro...Click here for a timeline of school shootings. No. 2, the shooter in the VT incident was a "permanent legal resident" with a green card. He was not a "citizen", but this gave him the same right as a citizen has to purchase the gun. Something that may change with this tragedy. But, all said, Phil is correct. This should serve only to prompt us to search our OWN hearts...
  3. I KNOW what you MEAN, Tim... Good to see you back on the water so soon... If they are generating Friday, can I come over and watch you catch some bigguns? I told my wife my doctor told me not to lift anything heavier than a nightgown tail... I don't think she believed me...
  4. I would think the fear of rowing a boat up by the dam would be the fear of a #8 conehead wooly bugger in the back of the head... or WORSE...
  5. You guys are just jealous 'cause you can't do it... That's why you all got married...
  6. bojack, Who is this Mr. Beeson you were referring to?... (No formalities, please... Mr. Beeson was... well, actually my GRANDfather... My father was even like me and didn't like formalities as such. But, I do "respect the respect" shown... uh.. Mr. Jack...sir...)
  7. 1. As long as you are actually executing a pass and not just flirtin' with the babe in the Beamer beside you, I agree... 2. My point exactly. 3. You won't get that from me unless I've got an 11 year old in the passenger seat in a hyper/hypoglysemic coma. Then you may get a "nudge" along with the flashing lights, horn, and salute... 4. Yep... complete agreement. 5. Only thing - be careful reaching for that purse. You might be accused of purse snatching... But then a "here... let me get that for you" should avoid that. The sneezing... well, I might move to another lane... germ-o-phobe... 6. Yep... But the ones that REALLY get my goat are the ones who are following someone both going, say, 55 mph. Just as I, going 65 and having pulled into the left lane 5 car lengths back, get within a car length when they decide it's time to pull out to "pass"... doing 56... And they seem oblivious to the squealing smoking tires behind them. 7. I don't honk unless it's SEVERAL seconds. However, I might call you a "cooty infested girl kisser" in the privacy of my vehicle.
  8. (I can't believe I'm posting this...) By the way, Taxidermist... Was this guy in a Tracker? And Ken... were you pulling a Tracker when you had your faux paux? (Sorry, BB... Couldn't resist...)
  9. That's OK as long as you are fishing the same water all the time. Didymo and other "yucky stuff" is transferred from stream to stream via waders, boots, boat hulls, trailers, etc. Use mild soap and a touch of bleach on your waders with LOTS of water. There have been a couple of threads here and on John Wilson's forum about this...
  10. Tax, I remember well when the "speeder impeder" law was passed in Arkansas. I was a consultant at the time and on the road a lot. One of my main arteries of travel was I-40 from Conway to Little Rock. They worked on that stretch of interstate for what seemed to be 250 years with one lane closed most of the time. The "speeder impeder" law was introduced by some state legislators who commuted from LR to Mayflower and points beyond who were tired of people blocking their path when they would finally get out of the one lane construction zone. At that point, they (and I) were ready to get home and would try to ramp up to 80 mph or so only to find themselves blocked by drivers in the left lane matching the speed of the driver right beside them in the right lane. And this was NOT always semis... To that point, Ken... I don't mind you being frustrated with me for being in a hurry as long as you HURRY UP AND PASS and then GET IN THE FREAKIN' RIGHT LANE once you've completed your passing... As for the credit card swipe, what you said is true, however, most of them clearly state to "swipe card" and you can ask the clerk. My peeve is for those who wait, finish filling their cart, THEN search every pocket of their pants and/or corner of their purse to find their card to swipe. THEN take an extra block of time sorting change and filing the receipt without moving from the register. Is it my impatience or being in a hurry that frustrates me? Nope. It's the fact that these folks are suffering from the CUS (Center of the Universe Syndrome) and have a lack of consideration for the person or persons behind them who may have a good reason to be in a hurry. That's what seems to be lacking so much in our society... respect and consideration for our fellow man. But do I complain to the card swiper or honk, flash lights, and salute the speeder impeder? No... I simply yell my frustrations in my head, try to calm myself, and make a mental note to try and never do something like that to frustrate another person. Well, OK... I might give you a glare... but other than that, I try to avoid conflict... And, yes, I too have had "blonde moments" (my apologies for the use of that blatantly stereotypical phrase) and been embarrassed at my own actions. I'm sure we all have.
  11. Seth, I have to agree with you about "blaming" video games. As I alluded to in recent postings, this type of thing is just a "cop out" to rid ourselves of blame and responsibility. We, as a society, have tried to rule out taking responsibility for our actions. I can blame my mom, McDonalds (well, not them - I RARELY eat McDonalds food), society, doctors, God, genetics, or any number of "things" for my being overweight. But ultimately, I must take the responsibility and understand that it is MY actions that are not under control enough to make me a lean, mean, fishin' machine... But I do want to "preach a short sermon" on the last comment. I feel instead of reveling in the belief that this person is going to "burn in hell" for his actions, we should take the approach of praying that just before the bullet entered his brain, he had a change of heart and repented his actions. And we should be in prayer that we never get to the same level of mental/spiritual demise to cause us to do something similar. And we should pray that our actions or words might serve to prevent someone else from committing such an act and even more that we lead someone on a similar path to Christianity. I, too, have "lashed out" and made similar statements in frustration and anger. However, reflection on such thoughts in my head makes me wonder if, in God's "opinion", I'm any better than the shooter... I guess I take a WWJD approach... Maybe I'm wrong... I see the deacons are all looking at their watches, so you are all dismissed...
  12. Here here, Brian! Here again we see the "blame game" at work. There are so many that will bring up the "gun control" issue on BOTH sides. Democrats will blame Republicans and Republicans will blame Democrats for this incident. I blame mankind in general and Satan... End of discussion...
  13. NO NO NO NO NO... My apologies, Tex, if I made you feel like that was MY intent. No - Nothing of the sort. I was merely stating MY feeling at times. I have to stop at times and look for my own faults. I've learned to look at some of those situations and try to view them as a possible reflection of my own self. Then make an attempt at adjustment in MY actions. I just wish some of those with CUS would do the same. Some of my pet peeves: 1. People who drive "slow" in the left lane. 2. People who block the aisle at the store. 3. People who will jump in front of you with two carts full of goods while you are holding a gallon of milk and a tube of toothpaste... or anything similar such as the "boat ramp" incident at the start of this thread. 4. Those that "write" checks (when the register can print them) and wait until the total is announced before they get their checkbook out of their purse or pocket. 5. Those that have not learned that you can swipe your card after the first item is scanned and you do NOT have to wait until everything is totalled. 6. Those that wait at a stop sign until you get "within range" and then pull out... and THEN go 10 mph slower than you. 7. People who do not know the traffic laws and the meaning of the word "YIELD"!!! 8. People who use the drive thru to order for 10 different people and insist on 10 separate checks. 9. People who think there vehicles are SO important that they will straddle a parking line to avoid anyone parking next to them. (OK.. and I INTENTIONALLY will park next to them and straddle the NEXT line... ) 10. Store clerks with a cell phone in their ear talking "trash" to a friend. I POd a clerk one time because I refused to let her ring me up or move until she hung up from talking on her cell to her friend about her boyfriend... And then I asked to speak to the manager or have a phone number to call the manager. She was not happy... but OH WELL!! 11. Bad service at a restaurant. You want me to leave a tip? You want me to come back another time? Treat me with GOOD service. 12. People who allow their kids to run amuck in a store, restaurant, or other public places... and those who allow their kids to continuously cry or throw a tantrum or scream or otherwise disrupt with very little or no dicipline. "Now Honey don't do that!" ain't helpin' matters, Mom!!! OK... and I admit, I'm guilty of a few of these at times... We are run amuck with inconsideration. My dad use to use an old Marine saying - "HURRAY FOR ME! F*%& YOU! I GOT MINE! HOW'R YOU DOIN'?" Our society has become oblivious and accepting to greed, pride, selfishness, and lust. We take pride in these attributes anymore.
  14. If everyone were just like me, the world would be a perfect place... Al, I like that "Center of the Universe Syndrome"... I'd like to use that... There will be a CUS telethon soon...
  15. Now that the smoke has begun to clear, the media is moving towards a feeding frenzy of assigning blame. The first victim - the president of VT... The "armchair quarterbacks" have blamed him in that he did not immediately shut down the school when the first killings were reported. Had he done so and the result had been no more shootings, I'm sure he would be "called to the carpet" for shutting down the school for no reason. He is in a "no win" situation because it "makes news." In my line of work, I am charged with "root cause analysis" of problems. This means getting down to the REAL reason and ROOT CAUSE of something that "went wrong." It is difficult at best to do this because we have been brainwashed to lay blame on and find fault in someone and ignore the underlying facts that resulted in the problem. As I told a former boss in a scathing memorandum years ago, "The problem is we do not know what the problem is!" We continue to look at any situation and take credit for anything "good" but refuse to take responsibility for anything "bad." Is this "human nature?" Not really. It is a "learned dicipline" for the most part. Our "Dr. Spock" approach to child rearing has instilled in the generations at this point under 50 to accept no blame for their actions with the mentality that these actions will have no consequence other than a kind "now, Honey, don't do that" from our mom. And now with that, our "Jerry Springer" hungry society has found a way to "lay blame" for ANY situation on our parents and/or ANYone else we can. Just as long as we do not have to take ANY responsibility for our own actions. Family? Church? Community? Those terms are ancient. What is a family? Are there any real "families" left in the US? I tend to think they are only in very remote locations in very small numbers. Unsupported and unscientific "best guess" is that the average child today has three dads, two moms, 14 sets of grandparents, and spends approximately ten minutes a week with any pairing of these as a "family unit." No wonder kids today are so confused. (I admit and take responsibility for being in just such a situation myself.) And responsibility? How can a parent teach a kid responsibility? The dishwasher does the dishes, there are but one or two pets to feed, and with soccer, softball, karate lessons, etc. who has time anyway? And don't use the cop out that sports teaches these things. No sir... You as the parent are responsible for teaching these things and should not rely on a "coach" or "teacher" to do it for you. As for church, I agree. However, we can not say there is no "religion" in the family today. There is plenty of worship. We worship money, sports, cars, or whatever. That takes priority in our lives. What does this teach our kids? We want to live our lives through Shaq, Junior, Albert, whomever. We wear tee shirts, stickers on our vehicles, posters in our homes. And it is no longe sufficient to "keep up with the Jones's." We have taken on such a competative persona that we must "bury the Jones's in the dirt!" And if we DO go to church, there is a feeling that we must be "entertained" instead of taught. The last four churches I attended seemed too focused on making you "feel good" without the true depth of what church should be. Church is a place to be taught and fed, not a place to be seen and entertained. Community? These are even more scarce than the family. The "community" I live in might be considered the subdivision I live in. It is not really a community, but merely a housing development. There are no neighborhoods anymore to speak of. I sat outside in my front yard for a while after work yesterday. It was a pretty day to be outside. I live at the entrance to the subdivision, so I saw most of the residents as they entered or exited. A friendly wave from me was greeted 3/4 of the time with a look of "who is this nut?" I know the first names of three people in the subdivision other than those that reside in my house. As I sat in my yard, I noticed there were a total of three kids outside playing. One of them was riding an electric toy car in the street. The other two were on bicycles riding in the street. The oldest could not have been more than 7 or 8. There were no parents in sight. Nobody sits outside unless they are in their own backyard surrouded by a privacy fence. There is not attempt to get to know your neighbors. Who cares about them anyway? The only interaction I have had with anyone other than the mother of my daughter's friend, my next door neighbor who invited us to an Amway meeting, and the local Avon lady is the chairwoman of the subdivision residents association who scolded me for having a basketball goal, garden hose, and bird feeder in the front yard in violation of subdivision "rules." No wonder nobody wants to sit out front. Community? Yep, it is dying a horrible death. The beginning of the demise of the American family? I support one theory other than the books by Dr. Spock. That would be January 12, 1971 when Norman Lear premiered "All In The Family" on CBS. For the time, that was the most controversial television show leaving Elvis', Mick Jaggar's, and Jim Morrison's performances on The Ed Sullivan Show to be fit for Captain Kangaroo. Since that time, television programming has whirlpooled into a vortex of mindless and meaningless escapism aimed at brainwashing society into a mass of people who will no longer think for themselves. What's the solution? I wish I knew... and maybe I do. But the hopeless feeling in my chest won't go away...
  16. Nice ties, Jeremy... thanks for sharing...
  17. People never cease to amaze me at how inconsiderate they are of their fellow man. I know I'm not perfect in that regard, but I do try...
  18. Click here and enjoy... ESPECIALLY you MrDucky...
  19. PLEASE somebody take a video camera just in case...
  20. The Jonesboro shootings are said to be chronologically the first of the school shootings while Columbine gained more attention due to the number of deaths. Sad to say now your kids are not even safe in something like an Amish schoolhouse. It is a sad note on what our society has become. But then again, I suppose killing has been with us since the time of Cain and Able... There are just those who place very little or no value on human life.
  21. I don't own a digital, but past experience with VHS and compacts lead me to give you at least this piece of advice... If you guys could take some video and email it to Phil giving him and example of the video and sound quality of the rigs you are suggesting, it would help. Phil, take a look at sample video from some of the cams you are looking at. I know I had a Magnavox VHS years ago and the sound man in our band had a Zenith (if memory serves.) We took some video of one of our gigs using both camcorders. The idea was to put together a tape to submit to clubs as an audition... Well, he was perfectly happy with his camcorder until we started playing back the tapes from the two camcorders... The difference in quality - both video and audio - was astounding!! Just "off the shelf" you couldn't tell his videos were that bad. But the color and sound from mine were so much more vivid.... He wound up selling his and buying one like mine... I was part of the technical team at my last church. One of our charges was video - recording and CCTV in the church during services. I can tell you, there is a difference in cameras... pro or consumer... All that to say this... again, Phil, check out some sample videos to see what the camera you are getting will look like in the venue you are going to use it... I know you'll be glad you did... Just my li'l bit of two bit advice...
  22. Yeah, but you don't get much sun on Taney at midnight...
  23. Our company is "forcing" us to take 10 days between now and the middle of June "off"... Vacation or a couple of weeks with no pay... I opted to take a vacation day every Friday... But that eats up all my vacation for the year... bummer... BUT... If all goes well, I will get to fish every Friday!
  24. Happy Birthday!!! Hope you get to spend some of it fighting fish...
  25. No banana bread here, but I'll put some creamer in your coffee, Leonard... Yep, I agree there was a LOT of moss up where I was. As for shuffling, I can tell you I had about ten 'bows worshiping at my feet... a couple of them about 18 inches. Every time I would move forward to get closer to the fish I was casting to, they would get all excited and wiggle, giggle, and chow down... You should have been casting to let the fly drift just downstream of his feet... that's where all the fish were... I think we should all get together, line up, and cast to each other's feet... The "lead" person will have to rotate to the tail end every 20 minutes. Don... Sorry I didn't run into you and really sorry I didn't get there in time for brats, summer sausage, and cheese... Russ... Yep... good to be back. I got a new wading staff at BCO (Special note for Michael: Jim paid me to take it... ) and found I can get around much better with it. Helps with the confidence... I'm sure you mean ice is my friend AFTER fishing to sooth my knee... Ice and rock snot are NOT my friends on the ground... If nothing happens, I'll be back down Friday morning. Got "family obligations" Friday night and Saturday... Maybe a couple of hours again Sunday...
