  1. I use to work at Dillard's in Jonesboro. I worked in the men's coat department and had my eye on a rain jacket with a zip in liner. Finally they marked it down 75% off and with my employee discount I got it for next to nothing around March of last year. My point being, you can find some bargains right now because the coat season is over. Try BassPro's catalog outlet store before going to the big store...
  2. I've got the toilet ring too but don't use it that much. Most of the time, I just lick my fingers and wet the thread a bit, then lick them again before working the dubbing. But that can depend on the type of dubbing you are using. Yes, twisting in one direction only is best. You may have to work it a bit, but with practice you'll get the hang of it. Also, in most cases you will have some sort of ribbing. A good idea is to wrap the ribbing in the OPPOSITE direction as you wrapped the dubbing onto the hook. This will help keep the dubbing in place.
  3. Steve... Good idea! Thanks! By the way... Since Davy has not chimed in on this yet... I know he buys these through a wholesale jewelry company but can't come up with the name of it at the moment...
  4. Ain't NUTHIN'... I mean NUTHIN' better than taking a kid to DRC... NUTHIN'.... Hey Dano... If I'm not mistaken, that bent over tree behind Skylar... there is a hole right in front of it that usually holds a couple or three BIG HAWGS.... That's also the pool where one of the sisters we were guiding at Conclave '05 landed the big 26 inch Brown... I'm tellin' ya'll.... AIN'T NUTHIN' like it.... Kids with big trout and big smiles... KEWL!!!
  5. Dang, Trap... now you're makin' me homesick!
  6. Yep... trout parks are too small to pay for a book like that. That's why you don't see a list of guides lining up to take you fishing there. Sort of a "fish in a barrel" syndrome...
  7. I'd like to find some good "Dago Red" around here... Maybe some muscadine wine... Nope... I've tried all kinds of grain alcohol and still go back to Royal Crown. I just wish I was "rich" enough to afford the gold label stuff (Special Reserve)... or now the XR... (eXtra Rare)
  8. I totally agree with troutchaser. Go cast a bunch of rods to see what fits YOUR casting style. As for the "forgiveness" of a fast action rod, you might have to change your fighting style a bit, but there are too many fast and slow rods and everything in between used on Taney and similar waters to say it will have any BIG effect...
  9. I'm glad you didn't say "a stone's throw"...
  10. Breakfast of champions! But I only use it for medicinal purposes...
  11. The Peter Paul & Mary version or the John Denver version? I'd rather go with Phil, but I'll be at the "First Annual OAFest" instead... What to bring.... let's see... - Fried hog jowl - Boiled hamhocks and turnips - Deviled buzzard eggs - Fried owl gizzards - Baked possum with dandelion greens - And just a thimble full of Rheumatiz medicine for my sore arm from catchin' all those big fish.
  12. Pepe' Le Pew comes to mind... No... I would look more like breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snack for the next MONTH... And don't worry... I won't be approachin' no copperhead snakes anytime soon...
  13. Looks good, Phil.
  14. You'll get several responses and I think there may be a recipe or two in other threads.... I don't eat a lot of trout, but for grilling: Fill the cavity with spices, onion, lemon, and corn chips. Wrap in aluminum foil and put on the grill. Turn it a couple of times while cooking. Time depends on the heat and size of the fish...
  15. Technically, yes, crabs DO have bones... they are exoskeletal (bones on the outside) so the shell constitutes the "bone." The crab jerky was simply "itty bitty" soft shell crabs they dry in salt (sea salt) and these were in a bag like a bag of potato chips (a commercial brand.) They had crab, squid, and fish jerky. It was all "gawd awful" smelling, but the squid wasn't too bad tasting. I couldn't handle the fish or crab... and I LOVE crab... As far as Leonard's seahorses, they're like Campbell's soup... MMM MMM GOOD! By the way, Leonard... I looked up some recipes... if you haven't tried it yet, put a bit of cheddar cheese under the jalapeno. I did mine on foil to keep the cheese from running out. MAN... made a good thing even BETTER!!!
  16. Welcome to the forum. SW MO is quite a change from SW KS...
  17. Welcome to the forum Dan...
  18. I worked with some Chinese folks that brought in some crab jerky for snacks... Now THAT was boney...
  19. I want them to use on furled leaders... I can NEVER find that loop after the first tippet change....
  20. I had something similar to what troutchaser has. It was a 1x8 about 10 inches long with a pair of 1/2" x 4" dowels in the rear for legs and 1/2 x 1" for front legs. It had holes and a tray routed out for hooks and odds and ends. Add a 1 or 2 by in the rear with dowels to hold thread spools and it was great! Now I have a "real" fly tying station, so the other was retired to a club auction. The worm pouch is a GREAT place to store materials, but I have so much chenille, that takes up all of mine...
  21. Hey hey hey... get your facts straight, MrsD... You're thinking of Kentucky there! In Arkansas, they do NOT marry brother and sister... only first cousins...
  22. I ain't helpin' no dog-gone snake, mosquito, tick, or chigger... OK... OK... OK... I ain't helpin' no stinkin' cottonmouth, copperhead, or rattler... No... I ain't a-skeered o' no steenkin' snake.... Well, OK... yes I am... But don't bring one for me to pet... unless you want him to be a DEAD snake... All Noah had to do was take out one lousy cottonmouth, one skeeter, one tick, and one chigger... But nnnooooOOOOOOOOOoooooo!! Now I WILL jump on the bandwagon to help the scud, sowbug, caddis, mayfly, and any other fish food you might name...
  23. I saw the doppler radar composite last night and YES that smoke showed up on radar coming from the Buffalo through Taney County last track I saw. It made its way to Nixa and made it look like it was just south of the subdivision I live in. Weather conditions were PERFECT for the smoke to stay low to the ground and move north... Don, all your brush may be rotted by the time we get the same conditions with a north wind. I'll just stop by Jimmy T's, purchase a Cohiba, and fire it up in Newton County...
  24. Don, Make no mistake... The items must be buried under the correct tree under the full moon while chanting the phrase: "Dai Riki Dai Riki TFO Whitlock Fish Pond Simms Rio Wapsi Wapsi Lefty Kreh Make my curses go away." You have to say it exactly 14 times while circling the tree and the buried items in a figure 8... With one foot bare and the other in a.... You know... you better just bring the stuff to me and let me handle it for you.... I'm afraid you're gonna mess up...
