Brown Trout caught off Lilley's Dock this morning
Terry Beeson replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
If you fished 29 nights a month on Taney, YOU'D catch a large trout too... Oops... was that humor? Sorry Scheetz.... But you are correct. That does look like a NASCAR cap... Frenzel, You'll find I am a C&R advocate when it comes to most trophy fish. BUT... if caught legally, and if you take it home and eat it and not just take pictures and trash it, I have NO problem with taking a fish home. With the replicas available today, I don't see the need, but still the angler's choice. At the same time, nothing wrong with me or anyone else trying to plant the C&R seed if done with absence of malice... -
Ken, I'll see what I can do. Of course, my cousin has a media business in Springfield, so it's a matter of giving her the DVD and video and getting it burned...

I thought in Philly it would be beer on a brat...

Nice to meet you, too, John... And yeah... it was 200 a piece in two hours for me and David Bolin... By the way... you only have to wait 6 months. The Conclave is in October and you'll enjoy it as much as Sowbug...
-
Oh... yeah... that's right... 200 in two hours... I forgot... I couldn't remember if it was zero or 200... Thanks for reminding me, John...

I drove to Mountain Home, AR Friday night and checked into the local roach trap there... Actually, it's not that bad, but not the Hilton... or Ramada... or even the Days Inn... Anyway, got up the next morning and arrived for breakfast with a few guys from John Wilson's forum. Then it was off to the 'Bug... 1. Picked up a nice saddle from Conranch Farms at a bargain. 2. Picked up some bargains from Jimmy T's booth. Jimmy has the flu and was not there so it was like Fred's... They were "givin' away the store!" 3. Attended John Berry's session on fishing the Norfork tailwaters. Very informative and entertaining. John has a good sense of humor... and is very good with dry wit. 4. Ate a good sloppy joe from the church ladies there. 5. Drooled over Harry Boyd's bamboo rods... and I usually do when Harry is in town. "Someday it will be mine... OH YES... It WILL be mine!" 6 Watched a few tyers tie and scored a few flies... Leonard even gave me a fly... Although, I think he put trout repellant on it... 7 Saw several old friends and put a few faces with names on this and other forums. 8. Fished below BSD and got skunked! The fish were midging, but they were tight lipped when it came to the flies we were tossing. I did see one big bruiser (about 24-25 inch Brown) cruise by my fly and tease me a bit... but he just cruised by, made a big circle, and stuck his tongue out at me... It was a good time for sure. Those that didn't make it missed a good time rubbing elbows with some great guys... Good to put faces with names on here and good to see several of you guys again. We'll have to do it again next year...

Brown Trout caught off Lilley's Dock this morning
Terry Beeson replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
(Using my best Dan Akroyd voice:) "Scheetz, you ignorant s&*t"... Can't you see the cap is NOT camo? -
I understand TU's position on this and it is not just a matter of membership. It is a simple matter of their mission: "Trout Unlimited's mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds." If I own land that has a trout stream running through it and TU fights to allow access, there is an option for me to "fight back" with practices that would ruin the trout stream - perfectly legal practices. It would become a "pissin' contest" for sure. Now how would that fall in line with the mission statement? I actually think this might be a good decision on the part of TU. Do we really realize how important it is to have the landowners all over the basin on the side of TU in order to preserve these waters? As I have continually stated... We are ALL to blame and are ALL in this fight... if we realize it or not... Now...let me ask a theoretical question.... Do you want: A. A pristine trout stream that nobody is allowed fish? or B. A dead trout stream that anybody is allowed to fish?

Terry Beeson replied to DeepDiver75's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
So Michael does have them, Ronnie? Great! Been lookin' for some. They are becoming popular. I hope Davy checks this and gives us his take on using them. I think he does.... -

For anyone who does not know... The "fisherman" in question was none other than Joe Humphreys. If you don't know who Joe is, you haven't been fly fishing much... Joe taught fly fishing at Penn State and holds the Pennsylvania state record for brown trout... He is the author of several books on fly fishing and is a great guy just to be around. You can learn something just by osmosis it seems... HOWEVER, Joe has never caught a 20 lb Brown. That's his goal in life now. The guide on the show as John Wilson. There were TWO episodes filmed, one in the fall of '04 and the one shown last night was filmed in the fall of '05. I met Joe at the Conclave that year and he was excited about coming back in a couple of weeks to fish with John and film the show and have another shot at the 20 lb.er.... I think John wants him to catch one more than HE wants to catch one.... By the way, if you missed it... Joe DID hook a big fish and the story as told by John is that they had told the camera guys to keep the lights off as long as possible to keep from spooking the fish. Anyway, Joe hooked the big one, fought him for a while, then the camera lights came on. John saw the fish in the lights, and in the show that's when you hear John say "OH -BEEP-!!!!" (I saw John today at the Sowbug he had to relive my ribbing him about cursing on national TV.... ) One of the reasons the fish broke off was probably the camera lights, but that's the chance you take when doing a video for a TV show like that. Anyway, the fish was definately a 20 lb... more like 30. I'm sure Joe will be back to try again. I just hope John Barrett will chance another show... if they are even filming them anymore. Most you see now are reruns.... By the way... I have both episodes recorded. The first on DVD and the second on VHS. The first episode is a good one because Darrell Bowman (AGFC Biologist) talks about the White River system and some of the history. AND you get to see the mount of Rip Collins' 40 lb 4 oz Brown from the Little Red. No 20 plus lb.er in that one, but JW misses a big Brown with the net...

Backcountry Outfitters White Bass Seminar
Terry Beeson replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Fishing Events
Yeah... Mathman needs a new fly line to go with that new rod he won at the last seminar. Better give away a reel at the next one so he'll be all fixed up... -
Don't listen to anything Mrs Ducky has to say about me... She's had to deal with MR Ducky and now she's having to deal with me... Pretty soon, between the two of us, she'll be committed... (By the way, Mrs D... Glad to hear about your dad... Look forward to those pics from Africa... and your sis will be in our prayers...)

If you would stop HIDING your inferences, then I would not have to LOOK for them and find them...

How! (Wow... was THAT not a blatant insult to the true Native Americans...) Lord, I apologize... and be with the Pygmies down there in New Guinea, Amen... Anyway... Welcome to the forum. I am a Quality Engineer myself... But I ain't got a CLUE how to drive a train...

I tend to use the "Orvis-Albright-double-improved-overhanded-Davy's-blood-surgeon-clinchy-cinch-nail" knot pretty exclusively for everything... It's a bugger to learn how to tie it, but you're set for anything when you do... OK... Nail for backing to line, loop to loop from there to tippet, Improved Clinch and trying to use Davy's knot more now on hooks/flies.
-
Dang... that means I've only caught three fish in my life.... Oh... wait... forgot about the monster bream I caught on the Buffalo... make that 4...
-
Dang, Phil... Now what am I gonna do for supper Friday night?... Understood... and I think a fish fry at the pavillion at Taney is a good alternative... Unless you want to jack up the price for a room and feed all the guests at your place...
-
You'll never know I'm there, Leonard. I'm going to wear my "Davy Wotton" costume... You'll think I'm Davy... (Gotta practice the accent... ) "G'day mate! Up for some shrimp on the barby? What knife... that's not a knife.... Now this here, THIS is a knife... CRIKEY mate! SHE'S a BEAUT!" Oh wait... That's not Davy.... That's my Steve Dally accent... dang... Dang it... Maybe I'll just come as LMW or Ducky...

A big "pat on the back"... We've all "bent" the regs a bit, I'm sure... But I'm just not very tolerant of BLATANT acts like that. GOOD JOB!
