  1. Definitions please. What is "Tan Vat" and what does "brush bust" mean?
  2. Well crap. Been looking forward to LP for months. Supposed to be fishing it tomorrow. Can you recommend an access for first time Current fly fishermen? We have one with no waders, so need to be able to fish from shore, too.
  3. How does high water affect trout fishing?
  4. How will the rain effect the trout fishing on Sat? Specifically in Little Piney and Niangua?
  5. Where's a good spot to wade fish (or fish from the shore) on the river around this time of the year?
  6. Hehe. Made me laugh.
  7. Thought this was neat. http://dixbaines.blogspot.com/2009/01/happ...ear-to-all.html "On July 8, 1847, Wilford Woodruff, a member of the first company of Mormon pioneers, took the fly rod, reel, line, and artificial flies he had obtained in England and went fishing on the Blacks Fork of the Green River just outside Fort Bridger. This is the first recorded use of a fly rod and artificial fly west of the Mississippi River. I was commissioned to go to Fort Bridger to paint location studies for a larger image of this event. The following is from my journal, July 7, 2006: “The first impression of the land surrounding the fort is that it is surprisingly lush and beautiful! To the weary traveler, these views had to offer hope. The grass was high, the water cold and clear and full of fish. Tonight, I will paint the fort at sunset. Tomorrow, I will paint a sunrise and hope for one that will prove worthy of the backdrop of the scene.”
  8. It looks like it's going to be kinda cold this week and a couple of my guys don't have waders. Are there some places we could spend fishing from the shore without getting in the water?
  9. Really good information here. Thanks for sharing! Eventually we'll try all of these places. I will say that we are more interested in "remote" places. The less people (non-fishers) we see the better.
  10. We are mostly fly fishing. Where are the fishing accesses in Montauk?
  11. I've been using Google Maps very happily for years ... until I started fly fishing. Unless I am missing something, I've found that Google Maps does not label river, streams, lakes, etc. very well at all and I struggle to find what I need. So, my question is, what online mapping service provides the best general information for fishermen such as the names of lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, etc. as well as providing accurate information in smaller roads and streets?
  12. Thanks, Gavin!
  13. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
  14. That is exactly what I do. Adjust the indicator to match the depth you want to float the fly. Cast upstream of the drift. Watch the indicator making mends as needed. Set the hook when the indicator goes under or change directions sharply.
  15. I'm looking for recommendations on where to buy flies online based on both quality and price.
  16. We're doing a day trip wade fishing the Little Piney on Oct. 10, 2009. I was wondering what flies y'all recommend we use and what is the recommended way to fish them? I think we'll be fishing around the Vida Slab area.
  17. Well, that's for an upcoming day wading trip. I normally try to fish within an hour or so from Columbia, MO. So far the Maries River is my favorite spot.
  18. Yup, the one and the same!
  19. Was Boze a fly fisherman?
  20. All I know is that when he wandered by, I heard him mutter "Stop poaching Tito's water".
  21. I was wondering if there are any tales, myths, etc. of the Eleven Point "Ghost Angler" out there. I was lucky enough to capture this phantom fisher on camera. See for your self below. We witnesses this spirit catching ghostly fish as well. His rod would bend, the fight was on, but never saw him release the fish. They were just ... gone. Spooky!
  22. Some buddies and I are looking for a good place to wade fish for trout for a day (Oct. 10, 2009). We live in Columbia, MO. Our plan right now is to fish the Eleven Point under the highway 19 bridge, but we're hoping to find a good place a little closer to Columbia, if such a place exists. Any suggestions? Please note that we are 100% full catch and release.
  23. Hello everyone. I hail from Columbia, MO. I'm addicted to fly fishing!
