I have never had my onstar to not get a signal anywhere. I had a buick lasabre, chev truck and now a tahoe. It works on a sattellite not a tower. I have used it even at montauk and highway 10 dead spot florida, in the keys, rio grande valley, texas badlands, ..... never failed. I get a special rate since I am retired GM so it is really a bargain to me. I only use it when my T mobile don't work so I conserve minutes which don't expire after purchased. They pretty well guarantee 911 to work anywhere.

Directions to Cardiac and Suicide hill. These names are not a joke so be careful especially coming back up the gradual hill to the parking lot. Take the Rosati exit from I-44 -- 5 miles or so East of St. James. Take Highway KK South through town and continue on for about 3 miles. Turn right on County Road 3620 and left on Besmer Rd. The first parking area you come to is "Cardiac Hill". Drop down to the gated gravel road, walk down to the fields, cut across the field and pick up the trail again on the other side. The river is just through that last stand of brush. The second parking area is "Suicide Hill". Put your gear in a daypack, because you'll need both hands getting down safely. Don't know about the conditions of the river but a call to the state park would probally get that informations since it is downstream for the river adjacent to the park. It is a great fish and you see very few folks when the canoes aren' t coming through. I usually go downstream. There are some nice riffles, narrow holes and deep cuts and tree lined bankes just a little ways from the entrance.

There are some excellent guides at Taney. If it is your first trip it would be worth every cent + a nice tip to have one take you out. Be sure to call a few weeks early because these guy's do an excellent professional job and are sometimes not avaliable if you wait too late. Check with the local fly shops or PM me if you want a recommendation of 4 or 5 great guys by reputation and character who will put you on fish and show you a great time.

It is always nice to have a booger on board. Welcome. Sounds like you are from an area that is not represented often on the forum. It will be interesting to hear your comments. Don't be shy to post.

In case someone was as ignorant as me as to what a Eakins jig was. click here: This was so realistic I almost snapped at the screen when I saw this demo of the jig. Here I go again back to bass pro. Would this work on the gravel at short creek or out from the condo's there? What abut just down from fall creek below the restricted area out from the docks? I am going to find out when I go next time.

Thanks for all of the input. My contract will be up soon and I will reconsider the options and advice then. BTW when I go to montauk the i fortunately have an onstar sattellite in my Tahoe that gets out otherwise I have found nothing else that works there.

Quote I wont cater to clients that wont let me be the guide. I wont deal with the masses of those that seek only trophys. I wont cater to a single bait fisher. It will always be my way. After reading the above comments I think we know the reason you don't guide anymore. You actually need to have people that are gluttons for punishment and want a dictator who insists on their own way for a guide. Not me. (wink wink ha ha ha etc etc.

No you are not making a big deal out of it but...... some people just don't get it and others just don't care about anyone but themselves. In either case there isn't much you can do with either of these idiots. When I fish Taney I usually go upstream to get away from the crowds which usually means picking second best of the bars and holes. Sometimes I still get boats that ease up to me closer because my rod is bending a lot. The usual question....what are you using and I tell them offer them what is working unless it is my last one or two. Most will then thank me exchange pleasantry's and move on and then there the the above mentioned group. My response is to say "if I am in your way I can leave and find another spot" If that doesn't work and it often does....I just move on. There are so many places to fish on Taney even on the worst days it isn't worth the hassle of letting someone rent space in my mind and get aggravated. It is a shame but that's the way it is. The good news is that for the most part the greater number of sportsmen I find on Taney are great folks and a pleasure to fish with even within shouting distance from wading or in a boat. I agree with you about bank fishermen. I really like the shallow side near Point Royalle across from Lookout, but if I see waders come in I move down or up to give them some room. There is a long stretch there that is always good especially if they are midging. Most boats hug the other side by the bluff there down to Andy's.

Thanks for sharing. That is the kind of info that we are looking for.

I hate to fight the wind or current when with novices even though sometimes it helps the fishing especially when fishing shallow at short creek with midges. I do it lots of times for that reason but hardly never when I have the grandchildren or friends that are first time trout fisherermen. I will go behind the island at lookout, fall creek or one of the big holes with a drop off and then I can concentrate on helping them without worring about drifting to the rocks or shallow side. It makes for a less stressful time and we always catch fish when we find out what they are eating. Thanks for the pictures and report Phil. It is much appreciated and helps us suffering from cabin fever get by until we can make another trip down.

Welcome to the forum. Hope someone can help you. Let us know how you do with the belly boat. BTW I don't have a belly boat, but some have accused me of having a belly bloat. I once was in your area and asked a gas station attendant how to get down to 270 and he suggested diet pills. I once got on a forture scale and the ticket came out with a warning instead of a fortune. It read: "one at a time please"

Sounds like you had a good time. They usually slam a bugger. There recently was a thread on how to fish a bugger. Can you share what method you used. Did you chuck upstream or across current, strip back, dead float and where did you get the hits? Curious minds want to know. In a recent thread some found the bugger their most productive fly others said they never caught a fish on one. I am sure that it is all in the color which you noted and the presentation which you obviously had a good feel for. Thanks for the post.

I am looking at the cell phone options for Eastern Missouri. I currently have T-Mobile but am going to research other options when I decide to purchase. I am getting a little peeved that every time I upgrade I must buy new cases, chargers, etc. etc. An extra 50 + dollars. I am happy with the service and coverage but was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or beware of suggestions. Since I travel somewhat I need one that has a good USA network coverage. My current plan is $49 / 1000 hrs plus $10 for extra phone. Using government tax math that comes to roughly 72 dollars a month. Does anyone make a phone that doesn't take pictures, receive text messages , bake bread and play stupid songs instead of ring? A waterproof one might be nice since I baptised my last phone in Taney trying to escape Terry's squid. The phone now qualifies for membership in the Baptist Church that I belong to but don't work anymore.

I have a little problem"foot in mouth" disease sometimes myself. No disrespect of course. I just couldn't resist and it does earn more respect when a person admits that they may have been wrong rather than rubbing it in when they believe to be right. As someone recently stated: "Life is too short not to have fun with it." ....Yep...

TRAV: The answer to your question. "Your a guide?" is answered below. Jackie is a lifelong resident of Willard, Mo. He attended and graduated from Willard High School. In 2003, Jackie and Jimmy were inducted into the Willard High School Hall of Fame for their outstanding achievements in Regional and National bass fishing tournaments. Both grew up fishing the Southwest Missouri area lakes including Table Rock, Stockton, Truman, Bull Shoals, Pomme De Terre, and Lake of the Ozarks. Jackie has been Angler of the Year with Operation BASS Everstart Series 2003, Heartland Pro-Am Association 2006, Heartland Pro-Am Association Elite Trail 2005 and Central Pro-Am Association 1998. In November of 2001, Jackie was the Bass Master Central Open Champion at Lake of the Ozarks. In 1997, Jackie won the Nitro Savage Summit Tournament on Table Rock Lake with a first place prize of $100,000 in cash and prizes. Seems for someone so well informed about local fishing you must be sleeping on this one. Defination: exchange of ideas: implies listening and talking. You might want to concentrate more on the former and less on the later. This information was on the link following your post that asked: "your a guide"

Report 3/26... Montauk (best Trip In Years!)
Thom replied to 10pointer's topic in General Angling Discussion
Absolutely fantastic and encouraging report. We seem to always think that a flood will ruin a habatit, but Mother nature is a blast and often heals her own wounds if we are patient. I am sitting here salavating in my morning coffee at the new possibilities. Thanks for the great pictures and detailed information. I haven't been to Montuak for the last few years but you have whetted my interest and I may go back this year. It is a great park ane nature area even without the fishing. We are truely blessed in Missouri. -

BOAT SOLD AT ASKING PRICE

Just be careful of that first step on the ramp. It is a tough one.
-
I think the package was purchased in 85. I was working 10 to 12 hrs then and used seldom. Not lots of hrs on motor and was tuned every 3 years. I got the new boat because the grand kids couldn't safely all ride in the old one. Nothing really wrong with the boat. Ideal for 2 fishing buddies.

I have a new boat and am getting my old Taney boat ready to sell. I started it today and it ran OK even though it may be due for a minor tune up. It is a 16 foot fisher marine with two swivel seats that each have live wells under them. one live well is aerated. It has a tiller trolling motor on the rear that pulls up into the boat for travel. It is carpeted on the bottom. The motor is a 30 hp Johnson which moves it along pretty well with two passengers and flies with one. I am asking $1500 dollars for the boat, motors and trailer. I live in Ofallon Missouri which is west of St. Louis 25 miles.

Welcome to the forum. Don't be shy about posting your trips. It is always good to hear from anglers that are willing to share both their successes and bad days fishing. Actually their is not such a thing as a bad fishing in the areas that you mentioned that you frequent. MO and ARK offer such beautiful lakes, streams and great folks and that always makes fishing a rewarding adventure.

Big Brown...or At Least, I Am Proud Of It.
Thom replied to Clay Goforth's topic in General Angling Discussion
I am jealous. Nice fish and thanks for the picture. I hope to get down to the white below BS again this summer.
