  1. You will be near the glaize bridge. I have had good luck by fishing 20 to 30 foot up against the bridge piers. Get medium minnows put them on a #2 red hook and put either white or red crappie nibbles on them. The two rows of piers on both sides of the bridge will usually produce some crappie when the going is rough. fish right up against each pier moving back and forth from on to another. I usually pick up two or more on each pier and then go back and do it over again. If you find them concentrated you can tie a rope around the pier to hold you in place. You may get a bonus of a nice cat or bass fishing there. I also have hit crappie on the bluff that is just off to the right as you go out of the state park. Fish it the same way. YOu might also locate fish trolling mepps spinners out from the docks next to deeper water just north and east of the bridge. In the state park there are brush piles straight out from most of the older sycamore trees but that is usually better in late fall or early spring. Good luck. Give us a post telling how you did when you return.
  2. Last week I walked down to the outlet cable that has the sign on it no fishing on this side of cable. My grandson was with me so I walked on the other side of the bridge there and called to the guy asking him what the sign said just above his head. He said " no fishing on this side of the cable". I asked him if he had any idea what that meant. He played dumb (i think he was type cast into the role) and said this was his first time down here. I explained that there is not an exception for first timers. I also told him to enjoy himself because I had just dialed 1-800-for-warden. (he rally was dumb because he actually bought it. As he was walking out I told him that I hade pics of him on my cell phone and the warden was on his way. Talk about someone getting out of the lot quickly. My grandson had to turn his back as the guy was leaving he was laughing so hard. Almost every time I come to the tailwaters I see this kind of conduct and mostly people know and just think they are above the law. I usuallly just politely inform the of the regs or show them the sign on the shore. I usally is enough.
  3. Just a couple of rubs of a fine file or diamond tool like shown in download is all you need. To check if the hook is sharp just rub it across your nail... If it sticks with very little pressure you are all set. Be sure when you pass the hook across the hook push the tool from the point along each side toward the bend otherwise you may leave a burr on the end that may impede the hook from going into the fish's mouth. On hook ups every little bit helps.
  4. Dano: There was a lot of traffic on the water toda still lots of fun. We fished below the island at lookout and did well catching several fat colorful fish with at least 5 in the 16 inch range. Bows were midging at the shallows by point royale and we fished zebras with both copper and black heads 16 & 18 with silver or copper wire. Did well on all. We also had good luck on y version of a hares ear which is all natural raabbit color and a gold 1/8 gold bead on a 2487 16 hook. I tie the tail around the bend to give it a shrimp look. When the water came on about 2pm we floated hairs ears as droppers below attracters and picked up a few on the way back to Lilley’s. Hopefull the pic of one of the large fat bows will post . It was hooked with 4 units running in the channel just befor e the powerlines. I had to pull over to the shallows to land her because the current was so strong I couldn’t get it to the boat and didn’t want to kill the fish. see attachment in above post
  5. Caught 20 + wed morning at short creek and restricted area on midges, hares ear and small green jig /100
  6. Monday nite at the dam.......... I am posting this in a new thread to update my trip this week. Went to the dam last night to brighten my horizons. New experience for me and my grandson fishing in the dark. we walked down toward the gauntlet and Leonard riggec my 13 year old grandson up and started him up stripping an olive pine squirrel. He then came downstream with me and while he was working with me Zack landed 12 nice bows by himself. Talk about pressure for a grandfather. I guess i need to be proud while most grandparents are worried that their grandson will get in trouble My worry is that he will never let me forget that he outfished me. Leonard put us both on fish and we had a great time. Since Leonard is a guide I will not elaborate on where and what we fished in detail but to say that the pine squirrel, sculpin, and other flys that leonard tied on and showed us produced in black and olive. We probaly caught near 20 + fish between us with Zack on the higher end of that total. Leonard caught several also. I you are interested in learning to fish taney at night I can highly recommend Leonard who can be located at tanneycomo nights.com website to get you started or introduce you to the flies that will work.

  8. greg: I will have to wait tillo I get home to post the pics. I am having problems getting them to post with my new laptop. We fished Monday morning from 10 til 12 and caught about 20 between my grandson and me. We tried lots of things but found they were interested mostly on a # 16 hares ear fished as a dropper under a pink micro jig. 5 ot the fish we caught just off the channel at the edge of the shade were 14 to 15 inches and fat. I am sitting a the picnic taple at Lilly's now watching 4 units gushing thru. They say they are turning off at 8 and then off till 2. Lenord &I are planning to head to the dam abut 12 and give it a ttry. t
  9. Even though the water ran hard all day we did manage to catch several nice rainbows near lookout on midges and hairs ears. hope the pics came out. New laptop and getting used to the keybosrd is a problem.
  10. Caught on midges and micro jigs.
  11. Sounds like you guys has luck like mine today. We pulled inatoa lillys and unpacked puat the boat in the water and headad up to lookout with three running. We just got two fish hooked and released and the tail end of Katrina hit us. At least we got down to fall creek marina and under the dock to wait out the storm. two ladies in a klack boat were heading out just ahead of us with oars. Hope they got out alright. We were soaked. This was on time when a day at work might have been better. There is still tomorrow and we will hit it early. We will see you Monday night Lenord.

Loo10: I will be in Branson so I will take you advice on the stops. Thanks for the info. My experience is that Branson is one of the best places to go for fishing and fun, but the food is pretty over priced and mediorce or I just don't know where to go. There were a few additions on the landing that weren't too bad but kind of a hassle to find parking near enough. I know why those lunkers don't travel to far from thier spot to feed. I don't like to walk a mile for lunch either.
  13. On my way home from breakfast this AM some geese from the lake ran across the road and two fley into my SUV and died on the side of the road. Just curious if any of the feathers on these poor souls are worth salvaging? There are some nice colors black and white and all sizes. BTW I am still curious if there are any classed going in Branson area next week. I posted the above thread late in afternoon so it rolled off without any reply.
  14. What can you do? Call the hotline. Unfortunately by the time the warden gets there they are gone. Only once at Benntet did I report a guy who was fillling his stringer with four, then his wifes, and then his 2 kids. That really got me hot. I quietly left the stream, got his plate #, and then reported him. It make my day when the warden came. He denied everything but the Wardern made him go to his van where he found a cooler full. He wrote a citation and took his gear and made him leave the stream. I think this is the exception of making that good a bust. I am still going to take the time to first politelly tell the person and if there is no response call the game warden.
  15. That's what I am planning next week. I tied some elk hair caddis varieties and plan to try zebra's under them.
  16. Andrew: Where will you be staying? I will be at Lilly's next week maybe we can get together. I am also hoping to try drys, soft hackles, elk hair caddis and also midges under the caddis. Are you fishing the outlets at the dam or in a boat? PM me or look me up at Lillies. My grandson and I will be tying and fishing all week.
  17. flysmallie: You are right they brought it on themselves. I don't like govt interference either but the rights of other stops when it interferes with my own. I can understand what some of the poster are saying about law enforcement abuse. Several years ago I was in the Upholsty business and my supplier was in St Louis right next to the stroll. I got stopped almost every time I went down there. Most times I would explain to the officer why I was there and that was that. On one occasion one officer put me through hell. I was in a hurry and coming out of the alley where the entrance was to Matthew Hinsman and he stopped me and detained me for more than 30 minutes even tough I had the supplies and bill of sale from the purchase. HOWEVER Not all officer are like that so I won't place them in the category with that cowboy. Another time at Busch Wildlife there was a man woman and two children giving the geese there a fit. They were drinking and the kids were out of control to the extent of chasing the geese in the picnic area and hitting them with rocks and sticks. I just politely told them that It was illegal to harrass the animals there and they went balllistic. The woman wanted to whup up on my wife and the guy came to my car and tried to smash the window. Luckly I was able to reach under the seat and raise my handgun within sight and drive and he was so smashed that he didn't pursue. Unfortunately there are a lot of those kind roaming around messing it up for everyone else. On the Beach in Texas last year a guy was running up and down the beach on a go cart while his small son was shooting at the birds with a paint ball gun. When I told him that that was illegal he couldn't believe it. His words " Gosh you can't do anything anymore with your kids with out there being a law against it' Can anyone spell "DRIVE BY" ? I probally kept him from getting a large fine because Padre Island is a national refuge and patrolled heavily. I don't want my kids exposed to nudity, profane language and drunkedness in a park or tax supported sanctury. Yes I did some stupid things when I was a kid, but and a bit BUT when I got caught I paid for it dearly both by the authorities and then again by my Italian Mom when I got home. Guess what "I deserved it"
  18. Thanks two sets, Phis and Bill. Zack and I are preparing our arsenal. I have tied several of the kinds of flies mentioned and a couple of new flies that I have been expemminting with. The last time I was down at Branson someone ripped off my soft side tackle box with my boat cache of flies. I lost about 10 fly boxes with most of my favorite stuff ( I calculated 6 or 7 hundred flies) so I will have to tie or buy for this trip. One thing that wasn't mentioned was San Jaun worms. I have tied a few since they are easy. Are they working and what colors?
  19. Wasn't sure this posted because I got an error message when retrieving.
  20. I will be at Taney staying at Lilly's next week (Jul18-aug6). What Flies are working and any recommendations for those of you lucky guys that are there all the time. I am tying some Mini jigs, Hare's ears, soft hackles, egg flys and zebra midges. These always seem to work. Any ideas on colors or sizes would be greatly appreciated. My 12 year old grandson Zach will be with me and we will be fishing out of a pro crappie tracker. Stop us and say hi if you see us. I probally will be wearing a oranger OAF hat most of the time.
  21. Sorry but I had some incorrect info. The boat I have is a Fisher marine and the motor is a 30 Horse Johnson. It is very light. I launched it several times myself motor and all on a small MDC Lake in Whitsides that has no launcing ramp to speak of only shallow tapered area on one end.. The motor comes off easily and if you are interested I would sell it without the motor and we could negotiate the price. Motors that size are very easy to sell. I have fished with this boat on lakes from Baldwin, Lake of ozarks to small ponds. If anyone is interested PM me and we can get together. It will be in Branson next week at lillies.
  22. LMW: I have a small tri hull that I fished Taney with for 10 + years. I upgraded last year to a Tracker pro crappie because my grandkid wouldn't fit with all of us. Great for two people. 16 foot Ricklin trihull.... has a 35 horse evenrude, two swivel seats, live wells , tiller trolling motor. It needs some clean up etc but I am only asking $1400 for it. I live in Ofallon MO if you are interested We can landline. Check out my website for more info about contacting me. http://thomharv.com/
  23. I haven't seen anything about fly tying classes lately. Are their any classes being held at Lilly's or anywhere else near Branson. I am coming down the week of July the 29th with my grandson and we would be interested in any type of instruction and sharing that week. Zach has become pretty good at tying but wants to learn more fly's.
  24. Just when you begin to think that the forum is getting a bit dull. Welcome Tisha and feel free to strike up a conversation with anyone on the stream and ask questions on the forum. One of the best parts of flyfishing is the comraderee of the group that shares information here. There are some real sages on this forum that offer help both on the forum and on the stream. Then there are some wantabee's like me that still enjoy trying to learn and improve. If you really want to learn to flyfish and use the flyrod consider going out with one of the good guides on Taney and let them coach you for a session. It is amazing what you can learn in a short time. I will be taking my grandson to Taney at the end of the month and am considering getting a guide to help him (and me) even though I have been flyfishing for 20+ years. Always something to learn. Just be sure to get a guide that can teach flyfishing and not just getting 4 fish and going home. There are lots of excellent guides here at Taney.
