  1. Gander Mountain has the best on-line prices I could find. Got two Lowrance HDI Elite 5 combos for the price of one at Bass Pro.
  2. A night fisherman from the SK bridge had the hitch receiver pin removed from his truck while fishing last Saturday. They didn't know it until they tried to pull the boat out. Fortunately, the safety chains worked and the trailer didn't land on the ground. Also the same weekend, a truck with boat trailer attached was pushed or allowed to roll into the lake at Big Bay ramp. Keep a sharp eye out and buy some locks and an extra pin. What kind of ^+#*& holes would do that?
  3. Thanks for the info. I told my wife this lure would make a great anniversary gift.
  4. Anybody using the Deps Buzzjet? Very tempting and very expensive. About $25 at Tackle Warehouse. A little less on ebay.
  5. Put in at the SK Bridge 05/16 0600 in the fog. Only two shorts on the redfin. No other topwater. We started fishing baby brush hogs, finesse worms, zman hula stickz, and grub. Caught fish on everything. Probably three keepers out of 40 total until noon. Rode around the lake in a new Ranger with a Yamaha 150 four stroke and the owner Tom. New friend and new boat. Great day on the water.
  6. Don't bother to go to the Table Rock Lake Visitor's Center on a weekend. They only sell the permits during the week, from 9 to 5. Regardless of the fact that most people work during the week and can't buy the permit that you must have to fish on the weekends when you are not working. Makes you wonder what we pay taxes for.
  7. Thanks for all the help. My agent also said she would appeal. But, I am definitely going with someone else on the boat. The moral to this story is don't back your trailer down the Shell Knob bridge ramp when the lake is 10 feet low and your Buddy says "You're OK, OK keep on comin." That concrete gets awfully soft toward the bottom. The tire dropped off till the trailer frame stopped it. We pulled it up, moved over, launched and went fishin anyway of course. However, the reloading did not go so well. Flat tire, collapsed trailer frame, dented boat and tow truck ride back home. And thus a claim to State Farm for reparations and subsequent cancellation.
  8. Just got my boat insurance cancelled by State Farm. Due to claim history -one claim for $2,000- trailer and boat repair in three years. We are 35+ years SF customers with cars, house, loans, life. No other claims for years. I'm mad enough to cancel everything. Anybody recommend a local agent and/or company for full coverage boat insurance?
  9. Launched at 0615. Loaded at 1030. Good topwater bite on the smallest gunfish in shad color. I had to hit them on the nose with it first. Caught a few more on a spoon and shaky head.
  10. Wow. Nice boat. Good luck with her.
  11. I started fishing on Table Rock with a used 24 year old Ranger 16.5 footer and a 90 hp Mariner. In 2010, my wife caved and let me move up to a Nitro X-5. The X-5 is now called the Z-6. WIth a 115 Merc, it'll hit 50 mph no problem. Plenty fast enough for me. Great looks and a great price. I'd love to go bigger but it wll take some time to work out those marital negotiations. I' m thrilled just to have a bass boat and fish Table Rock. Makes me feel like Bill Dance every time. I enjoy reading this post. Thanks for all the info and advice. My usual partner is Mike Cooper from Shell Knob. He keeps me humble. I tried to upload a picture of my boat. Hope it worked, I get a lot of compliments on her. She may be short and wide but she's a looker.
  12. Put in at the Shell Knob bridge on Saturday at dawn with a good buddy. We each caught a dozen or so with six or seven keepers on topwater until about 9:00. They were coming up around the boat chasing shad. Literally jumping on top of our plugs when they boiled. I caught two 12 inchers at once on a Sammy. After 9:00, we caught another half dozen on finesse worms. Came in at 11:00. That was the Up. On Sunday, we went out again at 5:00pm. After three hours, he had six with no keepers. I had none and a broken trolling motor. That brought me down. Still the best weekend of fishing I have had on TR.
  13. Try the Keeter Center at College of the Ozarks. They have gorgeous rooms with fireplaces, etc. A great restaurant.
  14. I had a similar experience at Shell Knob last week. Got there about 0500. Saw a boat on the bank near the ramp. I started to back down and saw a guy standing in the shallows that I would have sworn had no clothes on. Got closer and my first sight was right. Wasn't any of my business, so I ignored him. By the time I got mine in the water he was in his boat. I guess he thought it would be a good idea to explain. He hollered and said that was the first time his trailer strap ever broke when he launched his boat. Had to swim for it. Only at Shell Knob.
