I prefer the longer rod 8'or longer, it allows me longer drifts with less line drag in the water and I can keep in direct contact with the float, and quicker hooks sets at longer distances, the fly rod works great ,but every now and then you will have to deal with the wind factor, bottom line it's what works best for you all of the advice given is great advice find on that works best for you

This has to be one of the strangest pigmentation malfunctions I've ever seen, this green sunfish was up harassing the nesting blue gills, thought you guys might get a kick out of it.Did manage to catch nice gills using a 2 weight , what a blast!

Al,I know some folks down around Baxter Srings Ks. who harvest gar (they bow fish for them), Not only for the flesh, but for the "roe", this is one of the best channel cat baits of the spring, they use a limb saw or a bow saw to chunk it up then fillet off the chunks,I've eatin them and they are suprizingly pretty good,It's just a lot of work.

This winter was a long "Brutally cold one". The state of Kansas offers some great "tepid water" fishing opportunities for the "cabin fever blues", I've posted some pics of one of these unique lakes. This lake is Coffey County,(formerly Wolf Creek)a nuclear power plant lake. This is a tremendous fishing lake, well managed, the lake offers great smallmouth, largemouth ,hybrids, walleye,ex.(And no the fish do not "Glow" LOL).On this in purticlar day the air temp. was 34' and the water temp 65'(incomprehensable).I'm not going to go into the techniques we used but if anybody wants to PM.me, I'll be more than happy to help and to share with you some of the techniques and the in's and out's of the lake that I use.I hope everyone enjoys the post and the pics.(refer to region #5 for addition info on the K.W.P.D web site)

Freshness is key, but keeping your bait fresh during your trip helps immensely,I always keep my baits in a cooler with ice,as for the rigging I use a soft tip rod,4/0 bait holder hook in a snell configuration and a 2/0 barrel swivel, no weight, I use the weight of the bait and soft tip of the rod to"lobb" the bait, I prefer turkey livers, over chicken livers, either one works good.Always follow the bait down as it falls, big channels sometimes will tee off on the bait before it hits bottom. I hope some of this can help you.

you guys are probably correct about how people can be, what ashame,f.y.i. on any jig info. either shoot me an e-mail or a friend request on F.B.. I do not conduct bus. on forum

My friend does not give access to the public at all, securing access, I'm lucky to get in there believe me,I'm only able to fish it at his request, and Ive known him for 30 years.

Survival of the fittest is right not only for the fish but the angler as well. This type of fishing is not for the faint hearted freezing temps, brairs, hedge rows, barb wired fences, hills and bluffs(hiking),very hard on your waders, plus tring not to break a $2oo. rod. These fish are very spooky so you just cannot jump in the creek and start wading, soon as they know of your presence(game over).

Here are some pics of a wild trout fishing trip I was priviledged enough to go on last Xmas.My friend and I have reason to believe these are McCloud River strian(oncorhynchus mykiss)desendants. He thinks these trout were stocked in here at the turn of the century by the state as one of there numerous indiscriminate stockings.I cannot disclose the exact location of this creek at my friends request, I can tell that it's in lawrence county(this is not crane creek). Hope you guys enjoy the pictures.

I've these trout in in Mo.,Ks., and Ok.This fish was caught in Ks.In Oklahoma on the lower Illinoi river below Tenkiller dam I've caught them also, these states have very aggresive stocking programs.
-
NO, I was the net man on this one. A friend of mine that buys jigs from me caught this fish, and it was caught on a 1/32 .OZ light olive candy green head.
-
reading lately in some of John's articles about some golden trout being stocked, figured I'd send this picture in for those who has never seen one. This was a pretty good specimen, actually pretty cool fish
