You can catch a few in Big Buffalo Creek around Clinton. Do a google search for Big Buffalo Creek park I believe. It is the only water in the state with C&R on smallies, and you can catch some in Weaubleau Creek, a trib of the upper Lamine watershed. just a few suggestions there.

They might finish top 20 in points with one car.

I have a 3wt, but honestly, I do not throw large flies for anything. The largest is a #6 bead chain Clouser. I am leaning towards a 5wt, but I do not know what rod I want yet.

Hey all, I am interested in fishing the Niangua for trout, and maybe some smallies. What length fly rod, and line weights do everyone use on this river? I would be buying ONE rod for both species, so whatever it is, make it a compromise stick! Thanks everyone!

The only gripes I have with the TFO Signature series rods are: A: no rod tube B: 2pc The warranty is nice, but for my needs I would grab a Professional and a rod tube.

Has anyone cast or fished the Echo Classic rods, specifically the 9' 5wt. I am looking for a 5wt combo, (rod/reel/line) and was wondering what you thought the best deal going was for less than $300 total ,along with where to buy. I would like a reel with a great drag on it as I will target carp as well as bass and gills with this setup, along with trout when the time comes. If we did one of the Ross Worldwide reels, I would wonder how they would hold up to a 20# carp running with my Clouser, but I would imagine if it does fail, they fix or replace it for a nominal fee anyway...Hmm...Help me out here guys!

5wt for everything! Enjoy! Throw a 7.5' straight mono leader of 8# on there, and throw some #8 Clousers, #8 Woollys and hang on tight!

The stand-bys are #10 black woolly buggers, #16-18 gray scuds, #18 Griffith's Gnats. That is what I have used there and caught fish. If you take those, you should not be disappointed!

he catches those cats on a #4 DDH leech...not quite sure what it is, but the recipe and things are available online. I would imagine any dark colored fly swung in cat territory should get hit.

Add one more to the channel cat fan club! I was suggesting catching them on flyrods! 10" bluegill fight harder than any trout I have ever had hooked, and are therefore my favorite species to catch!

Those are some serious fish, and after talking to the guy, he uses 9wt outfits, nothing less... Now, how to present this to the state, oh wait a minute...it is the state fish!

You know, about wipers, the lake has some white bass anyway...I do not see the issue...wipers only grow to 5+# in optimal conditions, with an abundance of forage.

Gills are my favorite fishies! I love them on my 3wt fly rod...I throw flies from a #16 up to a #8 for them... Trout, hell, I cannot even see my flies.
