  1. I recommend a shorter rod, and some roll casting. Be VERY stealthy, and do not wade carelessly or you will not catch anything.
  2. San Juan Worms, the most popular colors are red and natural, scuds are generally an acceptable substitution for trout crack, and Zebra Midges are normally only offered in sizes 20 and smaller. Yes, hubble material! Good luck on the stream!
  3. I am considering getting a VERY short fly rod for the small streams and creeks in my area, as well as for stream smallies (well creek fish), and for capps and crane creek trout. What do you all think about the Eagle Claw Featherlight 6'6" 5wt fiberglass rods for this purpose? Let me know please, as I will be trying to hold to a strict budget.
  4. Wow. Big Buffalo Creek? I am going to have to look that one up. Try it out, and if nothing else, make my way down to Bennett or Roaring River. I appreciate all the help guys!
  5. Also holds trout!
  6. 1/16, 1/32, 1/64? What sizes so that if I do bring a spinning rod, I bring something that will work.
  7. I have tried many types of waders, and LOVE neoprene. Why, do not ask...but they are more comfortable IMHO. The Orvis shop in Independence sells everything at BOOK PRICE...I know. $8 for one leader? Come on. If I can, I drive out to Cabela's due to the lower prices on flies, or I mailorder from them if I have a little while to get things sorted. Waders, you cannot beat the prices at either BassPro or Cabela's. Look into a lot of different styles before committing to one.
  8. I have a pair of their neoprenes and I love them! They are comfortable and are a lot easier to put on with jeans on than I expected. I will find out how comfy they really are next month on Capps from sun up to sun down... Thanks again Kyle!
  9. What would be a good choice of lures for Crane Creek in the springtime. I am leery of fly fishing it because I have a rod too long, and am too bad a caster. Spinners, jigs, what else? Thanks
  10. Do you spin or fly fish? I am guessing an 8'6" 5wt is too much rod for Capps. I have both, but I am guessing the UL spin would work best for that area. What would be a good lure selection to bring with me?
  11. I would be UL spin fishing as I am considering selling the fly tackle...not enough use for it up here in KC. No streams w/o lots of brushy areas, and ponds with lots of brush...Spin tackle I can take ANYWHERE and catch fish...So, I will be down to fish Capps in a month or so, and might even stop by Hickory on the way home. Is the season closed at Hickory any time or is it open season all year? I don't keep fish, so I know it is catch and release on Hickory, but would love to fish Capps and get some advice on where to fish. Ollie...when would work for you? I have a month or so to wait till I have vacation time built up and for the baby to mature a little bit and momma to heal up.
  12. Wow guys thank you so much! Very stressful last few days. He is doing great. Eating well, and pooping well...lol. Mom is sleeping alot and soaking in the tub, she had a hard labor and is doing great. Looking forward to getting an ul rod in his hands early, but you know how that goes. Gotta wait a few months...ahem...years. Thanks again guys for every well wish. I appreciate it more than you could know!
  13. The only place to wade is in the C&R area as well as below the old bridge at the end of zone 3.
  14. Great. Let me know. I would love to try out Montauk.
  15. We had our first baby last night (1/6/07) at 2133. His name is Braden, and he is 19" long, 6lbs 10oz and healthy! Great set of lungs for screaming and sleeping! I am staying at the hospital till tomorrow with her, and am so excited to have given birth to my little fishing buddy!
  16. I would love to hunt down some wild trout, but unfortunately time and money are required to do so.
  17. Not to drag up a dead post, but wild bows have white tipped fins...hatchery trout wear the tips of their fins off in the raceways. Next, where is Hickory Creek? I would love to fish there after I pick up a 7'6 3wt again. Had one and sold it...anyway...
  18. That sounds like a deal Kyle. Montauk in the spring?
  19. I had decent luck on #16 Griffith's Gnats and gray scuds...good fishing!
  20. Wow, that easy? I did not know that. I only have 1/100 jigs, guess I need to learn to tie some flies eh? I will probably try both ways, any color suggestions?
  21. So, no tips on not using an indicator? I will be trying these for stocked winter lakes in Kansas City on Thursday and am wondering.
  22. If they dredge it will lose most of the fly fishing appeal (riffles and such), but will be more open to lure fishermen in the deeper areas.
  23. Sorry to drag up an old topic like this one, but I was just rereading your post, and you said you wade. Me too! I would be up for getting together at BSP access and wading for some trout if you would want to come spring. Let me know.
  24. I am new to flyfishing for trout and am wondering how you fish 1/100 marabou jigs for trout. Strike indicator or what? Thanks guys.
  25. Sounds like a hit or miss trip, but you know what they say about fishing and work....Sounds like fun nonetheless.
