  1. Honestly, my goals are simple. 1. Fish more than I did last year. 2. Catch a smallmouth on bamboo this year. (another thread in its own right) 3. Catch a longear sunfish in Kansas on the fly (I have caught one before, 3 years ago).
  2. Look at a St. Croix blank. They are made in the USA and fish very well, often true to marked weight.
  3. The flies I have that I plan to throw at RR include San Juan Worms in a #14, gray scuds in a #16, cress sowbugs in a #18 and maybe some buggers in a #10. I also have a couple #18 zebra midges to throw if nothing else works.
  4. I guess those posts weren't up for long.
  5. Marabou muddlers are a good choice, as are sculpzillas in sculpin colors.
  6. Nice, so about $200 for wearing felt boots, when you can buy cheap rubbers for about $50 from BPS, granted, not sticky rubber, but rubber anyway.
  7. Yeah, I noticed that Rick. I wanted to fish rebar pretty badly. I had streamers lining up to swing through it.
  8. I would have questions about the mid-tip male ferrule. It appears to be seated off center on the blank or is that just the way the picture made it look?
  9. I did send an email to a senator out of my state about this bill.
  10. Which party seems to propose more of these ridiculous bills? That would be the Republican party, so yes, it is partisan. One party is for conservation, the other is for control. Take your pick.
  11. Smalliebigs, that is hilarious. Anyone with any knowledge of mammalia knows that the instinct to mate is closely behind the instinct to feed, drink and have shelter. Male mammals will not go someplace where one of their primary instincts cannot be met.
  12. Hopefully the 11th, I will be down.
  13. Email sent. Eric, you are right. The fact that it is a Republican doesn't shock me either. It was expected. Let the fear take over and go from there seems to be their mantra, however, if they were educated on these animals, they would learn that these cats are worthy of the awe that they inspire. They are not a threat to humans unless confronted, which is so rare in the wild, it would likely never happen. I wish they did some research before wanting to fearmonger something through the legislature.
  14. Seriously? Those animals were here long before any white immigrants were. This is a terrible thing for any conservation minded individual or entity. I hope this gets shot down, pardon the pun.
  15. Chief, how is that moonshining thing coming along? I want some. That creek doesn't look familiar to me. I would be curious to know which one it is.
  16. Al, that Mary is a hell of a negotiator. Does she want to give my wife lessons? Sounds like you had an interesting trip to say the least!
  17. I haven't heard anything about a fine yet. I am sure it won't be cheap, but probably $75 or so.
  18. Thanks Randy. I would like some more time on the water.
  19. Chief likes to talk a lot, so let me summarize this stuff. The lures I fish are pretty simple. On my spinning rod, L action, I throw everything from 2.75" Yum Craw Papis in green pumpkin, Rebel Wee Craws, Rapala F5s in silver and some 1/8oz inline spinners. On my casting rod, I throw 3" soft craws in the same color on 1/4oz jigheads, Wiggle Warts, 3/16-1/4oz spinnerbaits and Jitterbugs. I like to keep things simple. If you fly fish, #2 poppers, #6 sneaky petes and streamers from #2-10 in your basic colors will work.
  20. Thanks bud. Taney is all gravel, but certain other streams I fish in the Spring River system and the Elk system are loaded with slick rocks that will put you on your butt pretty quick. In Kansas, all of our streams have a moss covered rock or sand bottom and it gets kind of slick (the rocks that is).
  21. Eric, you are right. I had the studded soles on until lunch and took them off to go into a fly shop, put the Kling On unstudded back on and fished in them the rest of the day.
  22. If the records fall, you just have to aim higher in your pursuit of records. If the methods are legal, you can't fault the guys for using them.
  23. There is the first brown on the fly, and Rick, I think 6 was a bad day for me down there. Everyone who I watched fish was catching fish ten to my one. One guy was fishing a brown G-bug over an olive G-bug. I wasn't too put off by it, just a learning experience. I was prepared for high water with streamers, not an indicator rig all day. I will be more prepared next time. I enjoyed it and will be back down there again this year. I would have liked to fish at rebar and the other holes I have read about, but the stream never dropped below 707 and got as high as 710. It wasn't ideal for a first trip, but next time I will be far more prepared! Thanks for all the advice guys, and I need to come fish it at night with someone this spring.
  24. Fishing wasn't bad, but for me (not everyone around me) it was pretty slow. I caught five rainbows and my first brown on the fly.
  25. Those would be super slick. My rubbers are pretty slick on really slick rocks, however, the studs are getting used tomorrow, I will let you know if they are a worthy replacement of felt.
