  1. No doubt it would degrade our quality of life as we would all have to tighten our belts a bit, not travel as much, have a garden in our backyard, etc. (much like my grandparents and great grandparents lived). By doing this we would be helping to preserve the quality of life for future generations, but most can't think in advance so we will continue to kick the can down the road and let our kids and grandkids deal with the consequences.
  2. I think that is precisely the reason we should have high speed rail. It's the ultimate carpooling, and would be much faster than driving.
  3. I'm ready for the next installment, so far looks like the trip of a lifetime.
  4. They just need a some run support. Pitching has been outstanding, even on this winning streak they still can't score any runs. If they can score 4 or 5 a game they could make a push for the playoffs.
  5. you are right Jeb, most of the models have failed, they are predicting much slower change than is actually happening. I don't blame any companies, I blame the ability to get cheap fuel and electricity. When these prices go up we will find cleaner ways to do things, and we will waste less energy if we are thinking about what it will do to our pocket book.
  6. No offense taken, and I think we are just part of the ecosystem for good or bad, many things have gone extinct over the years.
  7. Once we are done killing ourselves off the earth can get back to healing herself. I can't see any way possible with this being a global problem that all nations can come together to fix the problems until it is too late (which is already may be). I think it will be a slow death, but it is obvious we are already sick and while I normally can see both sides of any issue, this is one problem that I 100% believe without a doubt is being exacerbated by human actions, denial is a dangerous thing.
  8. Most of those things Al suggested are already in place in areas that are in Mark Twain forest, and I don't believe any more permits will be issued to new operations. I am limited to 120 boats at our main put in site in National Forest, but I can put in as many as I want from my campground to my take out. National Scenic Riverways are all limited, although the limits are obviously pretty high. We are required to have outfitter stickers and numbers on each vessel. We know our picky landowners on this river and have told them to get a number from any problem floaters and we will deal with them, water patrol also uses these numbers to keep track of illegal activity so they can issue tickets. On rivers with only private put ins and takeouts, or on MDC areas I don't think there are any regulations,
  9. If Smith gets hurt I think Chase goes undefeated and takes us to the Super Bowl, 14-2.
  10. I agree with you.
  11. I don't care if they have it or not.
  12. Only problem with that thinking is that sometimes things escalate and what started as some yelling back and forth leads to one guy coming at another, and if a gun is in the equation someone can end up dead. If the guy wasn't carrying the gun in the first place being a respectful and responsible person he most likely just walks away, nothing escalates and everyone is home eating dinner with their families. If you are somewhere that requires you to have a gun to feel safe you probably shouldn't be there.
  13. Maybe they'll let us use soft plastics from Rainbow down then!
  14. Might get the subject off of property rights along rivers. We know where you stand Jerry.
  15. Getting harder to ignore, even if this is worst case. http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/24/world/climate-arctic-methane/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2
  16. There was another thread about this as well where most people agreed that the landowner was way out of line and should be put away for what he did. Several talked about praying for family, etc.
  17. Afraid it was theoretical, lot of work for what?
  18. First of all that video is better after you have taken some speed. Second, don't ever let me use one of those flies because I will feel horrible if I lose it after all that goes into tying that thing.
  19. From an outfitter standpoint I would be worried about the victim's family suing me more than anything. Luckily a few years ago the Missouri legislature reformed the tort law pursuant to Missouri outfitters relieving us of liability due to the inherent risks involved in the paddlesports industry. I guess this now includes unruly landowners.
  20. Must have had a bad lawyer, obviously without the ATV none of this would have ever happened.
  21. I would argue other than some trash and noise pollution my activity has no impact on the rivers and stream banks, private landowners clearing the banks of trees and brush has a much larger impact on the integrity of the streambank. We issue trash bags to every single boat we put out, short of going with them and making sure they use the bag there is not much else I can do. If anything happens in court (which I don't think it will since the only discussions I have seen are on this forum) it will be an all or nothing deal, we shuttle plenty of private boats which would fit in to the commercial category as we collect a fee for this service, so anyone using a shuttle service would be screwed as well.
  22. We do have limits on boat numbers we put in on federal accesses, and we go through an extensive evaluation to obtain our permit. As I recall with the Prater incident, issues with landowners extend beyond party floaters into the realm of the almighty fisherman. Thankfully in that case no one was shot.
  23. That happens at your age, just trying to keep you sharp.
  24. As I recall you do some littering as well, high dollar litter :-)
  25. They are doing nothing illegal by drinking on the river though, so me seeing them doing something legal doesn't scare me. As for littering I have to clean up trash on my gravel bar from time to time and it usually takes all of about 5 minutes to do it, plus I get to be right next to the river, so while I would rather not have to do it, it isn't a big deal at all and if I paid someone $10 an hour to do it, it would cost me about 83 cents every time someone had to do it. Last weekend our river had a saturation by water patrol and 7 underage kids staying here were ticketed. I'm all for it as it might help get rid of the real problem people if they see them out there from time to time. Most of my customers don't need to worry about getting in trouble.
