  1. Michael - great meeting you last night. We stayed until about 12:30 and then started the road trip back home. Glad to hear your night finished well. Joey is pumped and ready to head back down. I think we have another cold water fisherman among us now. Thanks again for your help and we will get together for some good hunting soon. John
  2. What a great idea! I'd be willing to donate some manpower if the need is there. John
  3. A friend and I will be down Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning for some fishing. We plan on giving a try at some night fishing on Wednesday. Anyone interested in meeting up? John
  4. My prayers go out to his family. I'm sorry to hear of this, and yes our time here is so short. Always remember to enjoy each and every day and be sure to tell your loved ones just how much you care for them. You never know when it will be the last time. John
  5. Besides startling me of course I swear it stuck it's tongue out at me.... They do that you know! John
  6. Finally got a break from work and took off for some fishing. The wife and I went to Bennett for the weekend with some fishing and good ol' snoozing planned. The fish were on most of the time. Saturday was by far the best with almost 50 for the day. Friday was slower, but I only fished from about 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, started a bit slow but turned on real quick, especially right before, during and, for a while, after the rain. The "hands down" fly of the weekend was a #16 zebra midge with a nickle head. This little jewel accounted for well over 80% of the total fish. The brown disco bugger came in a close second, followed by a white disco bugger and a brown/olive wool head leech. Totals for Friday: 7 fish. Saturday: estimated close to 50. Lost count and was having way too much fun to bother. Sunday resulted in just over two dozen from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. when the wife decided it was time to leave the water Friday I fished just below the first handicap pier to the riffles. I fished all of zone 1 and zone 2 on Saturday with most of the fish coming from below the first handicap pier to just above the big dam. Sunday I spent most of my time on the flats just above the big dam. I spent a little time later in the morning and early afternoon chasing some big browns up around the shallows just below the first handicap pier. They were looking hard at, some chasing, but only a few hitting a brown / olive wool head leech. tight lines . . . John
  7. Went to Bennett this weekend. Saw quite a few browns up above the big dam all the way to the first handicap pier. Most of the browns, including a couple of BIG one's could be found just below the pier. Ended up catching one about 14". John
  8. I second the aramdillo! I was at Roaring River a month or so back and heard what sound like a couple of deer fighting. I knew it wasn't the rut so I got interested. Turned out to be an Armadillo messing around. John
  9. What he said January 07, 2007 Great idea Phil! John
  10. Hey Leonard, I can't make it tonight but I am planning a trip on the 18th and 19th with my boss from work. He's a bass fisher and I'm trying to convert him to the fly rod. Hope we can hook up for some night time fishing lessons. Good luck tonight . . . John
  11. Thanks for the info guys. Work has not be cooperating with us and we haven't been able to make it down yet. It's still on the hit list, just been slowed down a bit. I'll post a report when we get down there. Thanks again, John
  12. I was also talking about the bigger fish. I use my net for length measurements on the smaller one's, but the bass fisher in me still likes to know the weight on the bigger one's. Don't think I'll have to worry about the IGFA rating. Don't see a record in my future any time soon. Like you said, It's a lot of money for just a scale, that's what's kept me from getting one so far. Think I'll keep looking and stay with the net for know. Thanks for the info. John
  13. I just realized I'm a member of PETA and didn't know it Thanks for the info . . . John
  14. COUNT ME IN! Even if I have to take time off from work, I'll be there! I've been wanting to build a rod for quite some time and to have someone help/show me how would be great. John
  15. Speaking of the boga grip; I've been looking at them and really thinking I would like them. Here's my question; are they really worth the money? I like the idea of weighing my fish with the grip, I like the idea that you can handle the fish without touching them. Are they really safe for the fish? Any input from someone that's used them would be great. Thanks. John
  16. Great Pic! What a site, especially in the daylight! Thanks for sharing. John
  17. Got mine in the mail today! John
  18. Thanks for the offer Terry, but my order came in the mail today. I ordered the green, brown, and white. I'll be busy tomorrow at the tying bench. John
  19. Great idea! I'll have to make a trip to the world of Wally myself. Thanks for the tip. John
  20. Sorry guys! Work has been hectic to say the least. I had my first day off in 12 days today and spent it in Kansas City taking the wife to the airport. I work again tomorrow but will tie and mail mine out on Friday. John
  21. WOW! I'm coming down for sure now! I'll let you know when and maybe you can share some "secrets."
  22. Outstanding fish!
  23. I don't fish from a boat so I don't know if this is much help. Since I wade fish I use a catch and release style net. It's made from a fine mesh. The one I use also has a ruler stenciled into the net for ease of measure. Anyway, by keeping the net and the fish partially in the water and and using a barbless hook it's fairly simple to release them. Very little, if any, hand contact is needed and if it is needed you can use the wet net to help buffer your hand from direct contact. I believe the make a longer handle version of this same net for those that boat. Hope this helps. John
  24. Looks nice! I've already signed up. Thanks for another avenue to discuss topics I enjoy. John
  25. When is it and where? Sorry if I missed an earlier post. We've been very hectic at work with three paramedics out and alot of overtime! I would like to make it if the scheduling is right. Thanks, John
