  1. I was also thinking of trying to be there between 9 and 10 a.m. Any other thoughts? Also, is there good wading access at this area? I don't have a boat and will be doing this on foot. Thanks. John
  2. Glad to see your back Michael. I was wondering what happened to ya. Hope to catch up with you on the water some night. John
  3. Marty, I'll admit this is the first time I've read one of your reports; but what a report it was. That was an outstanding report. A lot of good useful information. Well, all except the snake part - don't care for the buggers myself; but it's good to have a heads-up about them. Any reports on some big gills? Thanks for the report and I'll be sure to watch for your next one. Thanks again, John
  4. Propane fire with a dutch oven to cook in. If someone helps I'll sure help with the cooking. Just don't want to blamed for messing up a good fry. Also, my wife and granddaughter (8 year old) will mostly likely be coming along as well. John
  5. Count me in! Where are we meeting and what time? John
  6. Welcome, POKAT, to the funny farm. Glad to have you on board and hope to meet you on the water some day. John
  7. Curious myself?
  8. Nice Pics! Terry, I had the same problem not getting about three in. 22 days and counting til I'm up there. John
  9. Sunday the 10th works for me. I can bring a cast iron dutch oven and propane burner. John
  10. Welcome to the crazy farm Slider! John
  11. Can't go wrong with any of the above. I'd add an Elk Hair Caddis #16 and 14 to round out the box. I also like the #18 or 16 Renegade and the #18 Griffith Gnat. John
  12. Just sent you an email. John
  13. Nice Fish! Even nicer he released it for someone else to have fun with as well. John
  14. That's a pretty cool video. Looks like they were having a blast. John
  15. Tried a zebra midge but it had the standard silver head. I couldn't try the Elk Hair (one of my favorites) since I ran off and left two of my fly boxes setting on my desk at home. You're right though, they almost always produce. John
  16. Sorry I can't help ya with the fishing tips, but welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone on here can give you some tips and pointers. John
  17. Welcome to the crazy farm! John
  18. Is that $30 including shipping or is shipping extra? John
  19. Where can I get the latest edition of Taney Night Man? I've got to have it! Will he ever do battle with the Taney Giant Squid? John
  20. Never been there; will be a treat to see some new waters. John
  21. Thanks Terry! John
  22. May 25 – Picked up my wife in Oklahoma after getting off work and drove to Roaring River. Didn’t really think we would find a campsite and was all prepared to just fish for the day. But, we found one open and snagged it up before fishing. Got camp set and was on the water by just a bit after noon. Started out fishing the holes up by the lodge and worked my way down to the low water bridge. Ended up catching 14 fish in about two hours before leaving to go get supplies at Wal-Mart. The largest was about 2 lbs and most were between the 1 – 1.5 lb range. All of them were very feisty and fought hard. Used a #14 Grizzly/Pearl Crackleback stripped to land them all. The fish would/could not leave it alone – it seemed at times that they were fighting over it. Missed just as many by not setting the hook fast enough and had fish chase the fly back on almost every cast! After supper, I fished the fly only zone and could not buy a hit. Tried the crackleback again and then switched to a hare’s ear; no takers! Quite for the evening and headed back to camp for supper and some sleep. May 26 – Got up at 6:30 and stayed around camp for a while having some good “cowboy coffee” and enjoying the fog on the mountains. Headed back to the lodge to get my tag for the day and started out fishing the same areas I fished the day before. Used the Crackleback again with the same results. I ended up netting 12 more fish before heading back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast I tried the fly only zone again and could not get them to even take a look! I noticed the clouds starting to build so headed back to camp to break it down before the rains set in. After breaking camp we headed to the lodge area again and the fish had suddenly developed lock jaw! Couldn’t buy a bite. Switched to the hare’s ear again with no takers again. Finally got some to peck at an orange glow ball but couldn’t get the hook set before they spit it out! Decided it was time to head back to Kansas and packed up at about 2p. Overall – another great weekend of fishing and camping at Roaring River! John
  23. I know . . . If been looking around the area, just haven't found anything that appeals to me yet. You don't see too many old street medics so I've been looking for something in administration. If you hear of anything, let me know. I check out the Arkansas EMS website at least once a month. John
  24. Both locations sound good to me. The only thing holding me up would be the date and my work schedule. On 24 hours off 48 hours; so everyone pick a date and I'll see if I can make it. John
  25. Dano, I thought you already new that?! John
