  1. Welcome to the world of fly fishing. I'm relative new myself. This is my fourth season and I haven't looked back. Honestly, I've not picked up a conventional rod since I started. It truly is a great sport. And, your right this is a great site. Phil does a super job. There's a lot of information that can be gathered here. You'll find expertise from the "newbie" to the "old fart" and we're all willing to share so don't hesitate asking questions. John
  2. Hey guys I just bought some small jig heads (1/64, 1/80/ 1/100) and have been looking for ideas on the micro jigs. From what I've found they appear very simple. Am I missing something or just trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill? Also, what colors seem to work the best for those that use them. I'll fish mainly Taney and Bennett. Thanks for the help. Fare winds and following seas . . . John
  3. I've encounter the same type of people before as well. I usually move on down the stream. I figure if they want to fish there that bad, just let them have it and move on to some new fish and adventure. It's a shame that there are fishermen out there that don't respect the stream etiquette but I guess it takes all kinds. Who knows, maybe moving will put me onto some bigger fish anyway. John
  4. If you haven't bought your canoe yet you might check the buy-sale-trade section of this forum. Phil had three listed, fully equipped for $800. I'm not a canoer so I don't know if these are good or not, but it's worth looking at. John
  5. Brian do you still have this? Maybe we can discuss this further if you still do. John
  6. Brian, Do you have a picture of the chocolate CDC emerger? Thanks, John
  7. Ouch! Let me know how you like them. I only use them now. John
  8. I found a setup in a fly shop that works GREAT. If I remember right they call them TUBBIES? It's a clear piece of flexible plastic that you put in on the line. Then the shot is slid in between the line and the tube. They have two sizes of shot and tubes. You use a magnetized "stick" to put the shot in the tube. This also holds the shot when not in use. I've never had them slide on me when using them. Phil may know what I'm talking about. I have seen them at BPS. I got mine at a fly shop in Bennett. Tight lines John
  9. I care tippet7. But I'm working as well
  10. Sounds good. Let me know if your coming this way. I haven't fished farlington in a long time it might be good to try it again. Seems like the skiers have taken over on the weekends though. I sometimes venture up that way to Cabela's. I'll let you know if I'm coming that way. Tight Lines John
  11. Greg, My wife and I both wear the neoprene gloves with the fingers cut out. They are a little cumbersome when it comes to tying on fly's but they do a decent job of keeping the hands warm. Best of luck! John
  12. I have a copy of the original. It's not bad and the price was okay. Where in Kansas are you from. I live in Erie, if your close maybe we could meet and you can check out my copy to see if you like it or not. John
  13. Thanks for the info. I'll have to try the distrubution wrap, it looks a lot easier than the method I've been using. I've already tied some yellow, olive and black. Most have been in the 16 size but a few were tied on an 18. I'll get back to work at the tying desk. I'll let you know for when we plan on our next trip. John
  14. Dano, You said you fished the soft hackle a lot. I'm trying to tie some up for my fly box. What sizes and colors do you find to be most productive? Still looking for a time we can meet and do some fishing at Taney. Thanks for the info. John
  15. GREAT! That's a trip he'll remember for a while and a great campfire story.
  16. Good story and great looking fish. Now, did he capture it on the dive?
  17. Just got home from the weekend. It was good meeting everyone at the clean-up and now I can put some faces with the names. Maybe we can meet up for some fishing when the weather gets a little better.
  18. I bought this new last year and used it less than 10 times. It's a great rod, but it's a medium fast action and I just don't like it. I would like to sell it and put the money towards a rod I'll enjoy more. This rod cost $345 new at Cabela's. I'm asking $275. If anyone is interested I'll have it at the clean-up this weekend. You can take a look and give it a try. Thanks . . . John
  19. I can bring the latex gloves if anyone would like them. Also, are we planning on a "dutch" lunch/snack or are we bring a cover disk like thing? Just let me know. My wife will be joining us for the clean up and some fishing afterwards. Looking forward to putting some faces with the names. John
  20. I checked the weather site out after making the last post, should have looked at it first I guess. The weather looks like it will cooperate with us. Looking forward to meeting you guys and putting a face with the names. John
  21. I'm sorry to say, but if it snows I won't be able to make it. It's too far a drive to risk getting caught in some bad weather. Cold; I can deal with. But snow, ice and slick roads will keep me home. Have you thought about a possible alternate date if the weather is too bad. John
  22. South of you about 2 hours. I live in Erie which is about 40 miles east of Pittsburg. When you check the FAOL site do a search for "tiger weave." That should get you in the area. I believe it can be found in the advanced fly tying section. If you can't find it maybe we can hook up somewhere for some fishing and I'll show you how to weave. John
  23. Phil, I'm sorry but I don't have any good pics of Bennett Spring, but I've got some good one's of my granddaughter at Roaring River if you're in need of any from there.
  24. Are any wives coming? Mine is planning on coming with me and she was wondering if she'd be the only lady there.
  25. Luke - I've posted the receipe today. Hope you enjoy it!
