  1. Hi all - going to be in Estes park from the 4-10 of July. Any advice on some good fishing spots within an hour or two. Spin or fly fishing. MOtroutbum I sent you a gmail. Thanks in advance. Todd
  2. Hi all. I am wanting to take my son fishing for tuna/redfish etc. I have been reading all these great things about Venice, LA. Has anyone been there, can you recommend a charter service. What are the opportunities for a self-guided fishing trip or fishing from the shore. I don't have thousands for guide fees unfortunately. Been following you all for a long time and appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks. Todd
  3. We are headed down late May.  Can I email you for some advice?

  5. Hi all - taking the fam. camping 6/22-24. We were going to stay at Red Bluff but we have been there, before and would like to try something new. Any personal favorite spots to fish/camp on Big Piney? My son and I are strict catch and release fishermen and the rest of the fam just prefers to chill. We are not looking for Party Cove - just a nice family area. We would love to float, as well. Hopefully all this rain has blown out and the water levels will be good. I read the forums most every day and appreciate any info you folks could input. Thanks in advance! Tmiser.
  6. On Friday morning my dad, my grandpa, and I went down to have a good day fishing down at ole, Bennett. I started out right under the falls where the siren is, my dad started out wading out under the falls where I was, and my Grandpa started out right above the falls. I did not have my eye on my Grandpa so I'm preety sure my dad was the first to catch a fish, oh his second or thrid cast. By the time he dad two I finally caught my first fish on a black and yellow marabou jig, not huge but decent. Then two casts after that I hooked into something you could tell had some size to you can tell you have a big one when all you feel on the end of your pole is just TUG TUG TUG (THATS MY FAVORITE!) So when everything was all said and done I just landed a nice 16 inch rainbow. As for my grandpa I looked up and he had the biggest birds nest you have ever seen. Of cource after I saw that I started to fly fish and right off the bat got an even BIGGER birds nest. So I had to go back to my spin rod because I'm too lazy to retie my fly rod with another scud. As the day began to progress I realized the black and yellow marabou WAS THE TICKET! I moved down to the bridge right under the falls and I waded out casting into the middle tunnel with my marabou the fish were STACKED under there. I caught 13 fish no smaller than about 10-12 inches in about and hour or so, not that was fun! (Can't you guys tell I'm talking about just me not my grandpa or my dad? I guess you can say my day was a bit more exciting!) Okay so we had been fishing for about 2 or 3 hours so went up to the shop to get a little snack after that we went down below the tubes and the fish were STACKED in there too! I think I caught 8 fish down there, all off a black scud and a white marabou jig, one of those fish I caught was a very nice smallie. Along with that a BUNCH of chubs. After that we went up by where the spring lets out water then down below the rapids right there, that was hot too! I started striping a olive wolly bugger, I waded out and walked down the spring to keep catching those fish! I ended up catching about 9 fish there. So at the end of the from starting siren to ending siren I ended up with 30 fish, my grandpa had 21, and my dad had 40 so he blew us away in catching the fish, but his biggest fish was as big and my smallest fish, take that! I also won 13 dollars off my grandpa in Gin Rummy, I'm only 14!
  7. Drove from Columbia to Taney on Sunday morning and stayed at Lilley's with the fishing buddy special. Met Bill B. Monday morning for a half day. Water was on and we caught quite a few fish bouncing 1/8th ounce lead dropper rigs with yellow and orange powerbait. Only did that for a while and then switched to a dropper rig with a pink egg pattern tandemed with a scud - brown or gray. Caught a bunch on that above the sign. Bill's a nice guy with a nice boat and lots of knowledge. Would recommend him as a guide. We REALLY wanted to fly fish so after a quick lunch we went down below outlet number 2 and HAMMERED the fish for about 5 straight hours. Scud patterns anywhere from size 12-22 were working. The hot fly for me was a size 16 grey scud tied with orange thread. I broke off about 2 dozen flies. Foul-hooked quite a few fish which I would just break off if I couldn't get them in right away. Biggest fish was pushing 18". Finally ran out of flies and just sat and watched TJ and some other guy (we were the only ones there) catch double after double the last half hour of light. TJ's hot fly was a size 22 black scud. Water was really coming up, rain was starting to fall and the temp was dropping. After a solid 8 hours fishing we got into the car and drove home. I've read a lot about Lilley's and the fishing at Taney. The people were really, really nice and helpful and we would definitely recommend Lilley's to anyone. I wish it wasn't so far from our house because fishing was awesome! We hooked into a couple fish that ran us into our backing that we never saw. Thanks again Lilley's. Todd and TJ
