This sounds like the old " Things aint like they used to be". To me that is what makes Taney so much fun to fish. You never know what the conditions will be untill you get on the water. This is what fishing is all about, adapting to the conditions and mood of the fish. Stop complaining and try something new to catch fish. Nothing stays the same. Everything changes.

I fished the Masters and we fished below fall creek. We were just below fall creek all day and we had about 10 boats at the most that we could see at one time. No one got in any one's way. With no water running it was no problem at all.

I would rent this with a trolling motor. I like the center consol and the large deck for casting. The G3's look nice too. Most of the time I rent Bassboat 3 because it is a deep V. It feels more stable and I just feel safer in that boat. How big is this boat you are considering?

I would like to thank the Lilly's for all they do for their customes. I have my oun business and I try and spoil my customers with service, and that is what the Lilly's do aswell. Curtis always makes sure my boat is full of gas and the batteries are ready to go. Those little things make it so all I have to concetrate on is what to tie on my line. Thanks for every thing. This was my partner and my first ever tournament. We had no idea we would do this well. The big fish was the first fish. We knew it was going to be a good day. We had our limit by 9:15. Between the two of use we cauth 50 fish. We fished below Fall Creek on the chanel side of the bank with brown jigs. We did swich off to other colors thoughout the day but brown was most productive. Chris, my partner, hooked a good fish down stream from Lilly's with about 15 minutes to go but it came off before we got it to the boat. We had a great time and can't wait for next year.

Trav, I agree with SIO3. Reading your reports makes me hurt all over. You have the right idea about fishing since the earth is 2/3's water and 1/3 land God intended man to fish twice as much as he works, or something like that. I have done quite a bit of bass fishing on Tany my self in the past three years. I manly go for trout in the winter and bass in the hot summer months. My Father-In-Law thinks I am crazy to bass fish a trout lake but in the summer the trout can be lathargic and not bite like the bass. I will keep reading your reports and working tword the days when my daily ritual is fishing. Keep up the good work.

I can handle running water but rain in 40 degree temps. would not be fun. Have they been running water much at all in the past few weeks?
-
The last two times i have been down they have not run water at all (Friday after Thanksgiving and Dec 27th.) We did not catch many fish after Thanksgiving but we killed them on the 27th. I hope core does not mess things up for the tournament next week. Is any one planning on fishing the masters next weekend? This will be the first for me and my partner. We are realy looking forward to it. Praying for no rain!!

I never set the hook very hard on trout ever. When I feel a bite I just pop the rod tip a little and they are hooked. I fished with the circle hooks all day last Friday and never missed a fish.

Kerry, That is what they are called. Phill has put them in 10 packs in zip lock baggies.

Great info Phil. I would like to add one thing to your presentation. Circle hooks, #6 or #8 size is perfect. I was using them on Friday 16th and I will never use a strait shank again for two reasons. One, they have a larger gap so when you put the power bait on there is more hook to hook the fish. Two, the fish can not swallow the hook. It is designed to hook the fish in the corner of the mouth every time. Now, I know what your thinking, "every time? No way" Try it and prove me wrong. I hooked 10 fish on Friday afternoon and every fish was hooked in the corner of the mouth. This is less stress on the fish and it helps avoid the temtation to preform surgury when a fish does swallow the hook. I have used these hooks for cat fish over the years and did not know they made them in these small sizes untill I saw them in Phill's shop on Friday. Keep stocking them Phill, I only have 8 left so I will need to restock next time I am down! Jeff Alley

My Dad, Brother and I fished Thursday and Friday. With the water moving so fast we decided to fish from Monkey Island to the bridges and boy did it pay off. We caught several good size fish on Power bait. Now I hope I am not affendeing any of you fly fishermen by fishing with power bait, but I have a limited widow of fishing time and I like to make the most out of each trip I am able to go on. On Thursday we caught all our fish on yellow and white, Friday we caught nothing on yellow and every thing on pink. Very strange!! This was my Brother's first time trout fishing and on the way home we were planning to come back in the sping to bring our kids. Our families had a falling out several years ago and we are trying to patch things up. We both thought bringing the kids down would be a chance to reconect and start building the family back. Thanks to the Lillie's for helping make the trip a success. I always fish out of Lillie's and have never had a bad trip.

Sounds like you found the fish and what they wanted. Great job. Where you bouncing the bottom or with a flote? I am going to be down from St.Louis on Wed. to Fri. with my Father and Brother. Hope we do as well as you did. Thanks for the info, I will let every one know how we faired. Jeff

MOBass, Thanks for the info. Would the bass be down stream of Branson or up stream? What type of baits? I just read the article in Bassmasters about Football jigs in Ozark lakes, thought I might try some of them. I always look for smallmouth bass but have not found any yet. Do you have any advice for smallies. Thanks again. Alletec

My father and I will be on Tany in January for trout but I like to bass fish when the trout are slow. Can any one tell me what the bass are doning in the winter? I bass fish in the summer months but never in the winter. I would think they would move up stream to look for warmer water, is this true? Alletec

Me too. Next time could you trun the heat on for me?

I went out of Lillies about 12 noon. The temp was 21 and the wind was about 20MPH. I was rigged with a double rig. Top shrimp and bottom brown & orange jig with orange head. I sat in front of the tennis courts and let the wind bow me around for two hours and cought about 20 rainbows. The biggest was about 18in. Had alot of short strikes, should have trimed jig back. May have caught more. Hope next month is just as good.

I voted for the Lake Of The Ozarks because that is where I have done most of my fishing, but not latly. In the past three years it has been Tany and Maramec Springs. With no boat and very little time to fish that is what I have been doing. Like my favorite shirt says, "Born to fish forced to work" That says it all.
-
I don't know how the bass fishing is this time of year but I go every summer and catch alot of fish. Mainly past Branson to Rockaway Beach and the spillway. Largemouth, spots and smallmouth. Good luck.

Dutch is correct. Those two makes are far supierer to the other brands as far as fit and finish and quality they can't be beat.

Hello, I am new to this site but not to trout fishing. My family and I have been coming to Lillie's from St. Louis for the last several years and every one looks forward to this trip every year. I have even convinced my father to come down in January for some of the best fishing of the year. I am also a bass fishermen and have found some very productive spots on the lower lake for smallies and largemouth. I have heard rumors of wallies in some of the coves as well. Our trip begins this Saturday, I hope to confirm these rumors. Good Fishing Jeff Alley

Phil, I am sorry to hear you have not had a chance to go fishing in a few weeks. For me it has been since January. We are coming down this Saturday for the week and I can't wait. In my mind I am al ready there. Glad to hear the fish are biting well. I am also glad to hear the bass are bighting as well. I am bringing my bass stuff and may be able to help you out with your report next week. Let me know. See ya Saturday. Jeff Alley St. Louis MO
