  1. Agreed- 2/0 is the way to go with small plastics. I'd try using something with an exposed hook like a worm on a smallish jighead or something.
  2. Yep pretty much- what a cool fish.
  3. Ya I had been wanting/trying to catch one for a while- turns out its really hard. Ive had several eat the fly but landing them is a different story. Anyone who catches these things consistently is pretty skilled (not me).
  4. I hear it is pretty low.
  5. He was feeding on algae as it floated by but not tailing per se. I cast at a bunch of tailing carp but they did not comply.
  6. These suckers are fun. Took forever to hook one even though they were everywhere. I wrote it up long style on my little blog thing. I think I'm already an addict.
  7. Same here man- it'd cost me 100 bucks in gas to go get the thing- but that boat is slick.
  8. Wow, that thing looks incredible man. Very impressive to someone like me who could never dream of working wood like that.
  9. No wonder those park trout just swim around in circles most o the time. That was cool except the scene where they are milking the trout... that was creepy.
  10. I know- I have way too many of these considering I rarely get to use them out on the white. They're just so fun to tie.
  11. Man, awesome video- I think that is the coolest looking galloup pattern. Last time I tied the I went with deer hair heads just because I hate casting a wool head. Can't wait for the Schmidt patterns- those suckers fish like crazy.
  12. Big fan of beadalon personally- I use it on all my articulated stuff. I use a few different sizes but I don't think it makes much difference. My gripe with flimsier materials like braid is that it allows that back hook to twist which lets it foul more often.
  13. Dang dude I am jealous- sick boat and great fish.
  14. Ya its not a super original pattern- that's why I didn't take the liberty of naming it anything cool. I like the bend on the 200r for small streamers. Its not a good choice for anything larger but it will hold up to smallies and trout. Oh and it happened to be the only size 6 hook in my box when I tied this- haha.I like the Voodoo Leech except for all that rabbit- marabou makes for a more cast-able fly in my experience.
  15. I tie this primarily for smallmouth but it is solid for trout too. This little guy has great action and usually rides hook point up. You can add lead wire behind the eyes if you want more weight. I did a full walk through on my blog. It is a little ghetto. Recipe: Hooks: TMC 200R Size 6- and junk hook for shank in front. Thread- Brown 6/0 Body- brown marabou. Eyes- small dumbells of your choice. Dubbing- Black UV Ice Dub Connection- .38mm Beadalon
  16. I think he attached it to those little plastic hanger things in the back and the handles in the middle. Like I wrote on there- I took the plastic hangers off and just used the bare screws but I know all interiors are different. Anything you could tie to would work and you will just have to modify the basic idea to whichever vehicle you have.
  17. Ya I can put a full 9 footer in there. My buddy built one in his 2006ish Grand Cherokee and it works. The 9 foot rods definitely touch the windshield and curve down a bit but its not bad. It does help to have a longer cab but I think it should work in a Cherokee- just a guess though.
  18. Just wrote up a how to on a simple rod rack for your SUV or whatever on my blog. This is just a simple idea- Im sure some of you have better solutions but I like this one. Check it out and let me know what yall think.
  19. Im here, but why does this thread exist again?
  20. Just wore out my old boots- which were redington CPX's. I've never bought a really expensive pair of wading boots and the CPX's worked out well for 3 years, so I bought another pair. Palix River Boots- Pros- low price, well constructed, solid soles, will accept studs easily and seem durable. Cons- lace system is kind of difficult, size was way off (too big), and not a lot of support built in. I have yet to get them wet because they are a little too big and I let my father try them out. I imagine that they will work well though based on my initial impression. Posted about it on my blog thingy. If you are looking for new boots, I think these are definitely worth a look- especially at 79 bucks.
  21. Thanks man, I appreciate it. I havent tried anything but epoxy- used Threadmaster lite build on this on. I have used flex coat high build on all my others. I liked the Threadmaster- not sure if it was the brand itself or the fact that it was lite build. It leveled easily and bubbles came out fairly easily. I have seen rods with permagloss'd guides and it looks kinda cool. Not sure If I like it better than epoxy. My only problem is that I need to work in areas with better lighting- the garage of our little rental house is pretty dark. I think this rod will be functional and will fish like crazy but I'm not totally happy with the finish- kind of a perfectionist though. Also I think ill go with a primer coat next time.
  22. Ya i need a new camera in a bad way. My fishing snapshot job just isnt up to taking good, detailed, up-close stuff. I think I am ok at the wrapping part. The finish part is not so hot usually. This time it turned out ok but I kind of footballed a few guides. I just need to do these things in a space with better lighting- being a student I always have to find some spot where my roommates wont tip the table over or something stupid. I think my next project will be a 2wt- don't need one, but then again I also don't have one...
  23. Built a new TFO BVK 6wt. It turned out pretty well. I don't know if my building skills are up to par but I like the rod. The blank is really nice and can fire out some line. Posted about it on here. Anybody else have one of these? I didn't really like the hardware on the factory rod so I built this one. It was also a little cheaper.
  24. I noticed a bunch of dead suckers in the White river in Goshen, AR the other day- i bet i saw 25 or so scattered around the river- no gig marks.
  25. I might have a Redington Rise reel somewhere that might fit the bill. I may have sold it... pretty decent reel for the price either way.
