The "hang time" I believe.
-
Oh I was talking about the big pike fly video (all those saddle hackles and hair)(and the bright colors spawned my "radioactive" comment). Ya the wedding crasher looked cool though, I don't know if I needed a video for that one.
-
I thought that video was awesome. It only took 2 minutes for me to decide that I did not want to attempt to tie that fly. That thing was sweet- how much does one of those cost in material? I dig the speed- no newbie tier wants to try that sucker anyway- it would come out looking like a cracked out, radioactive gerbil. Anyone that has been tying for a while can see exactly how you did that and at least try to reproduce it. Great video- make more please.

I dont know if you've checked the classifieds section, but I have a Redington Rise I would be willing to make a deal on... its a 3/4 and it looks cool.
-
Its in brand new condition pretty much. I mean, it has been used but very lightly. Might have a mark or two on it but I think its pretty much perfect looking. I am not sure what I want out of it- was 150$- make me an offer- I am just trying to make some Christmas present money off some stuff I do not really "need."

Sunglasses are sold.

Hobbs Creek Large Arbor Fly Reels 5.1 Oz
Jason R. replied to RippinLips's topic in General Angling Discussion
I would suggest the Redington Rise... in fact I think someone has one for sale in the classified section... -
Got some stuff that you need to have and that I need to sell: Redington CPX 9'6 6wt- 4 piece, rod tube and all. This is a sweet rod- used but in excellent condition, just a little smudging on the grip. Say 150$ OBO Redington Rise 3/4 reel- moss color- nice little reel, pretty awesome drag, would be great for 4 or 5 weight- I bought it for my 3 and its a little too much. Used but in like new condition with case. Rise link Smith Riverside Sunglasses- SOLD Rio 4 weight nymph fly line- white head, green running line, with an orange indicator tip- I would say I have used this line about 4 times. Integrated loop on front end. Looks brand new. 40$ Rio Gold 6 weight line- sage head with yellow running line- used a little more, still in great shape- maybe few nicks but nothing major. Integrated loops on both ends 40$ Cortland 555 5 weight line- sage color- with cool lighter sage "dry tip." This line has been used- a few nicks- still lays out real straight and floats really well. This line is pretty awesome- loads my sage Z axis 5wt really well. Make me an offer- maybe 30$? -I have the boxes and spools for these lines somewhere too. They have all been well taken care of and will last several more seasons at least. Extra spool for Redington Rise 5/6- brand spanking new, charcoal color- 50$ (Sold the reel, don't need the spool) Leland Reel Co. Classic Click Reel, Spring Creek 3/4- I won this and I have too many reels- great little click and pawl, classic looks- would be awesome on a fiberglass or bamboo rod- or just on a rod that you want a nice reel for. Brand new in original package with a leather case. Retails at 300$ so I'll say 250$ OBO Classic Click Pic I can send pictures of any of these items by text or email. My email is emailryburn@gmail.com and I will be open to payment options. I am in Fayetteville for the next two weeks. Would be willing to drive somewhere to make an exchange if there was good fishing nearby. All Prices are negotiable.

Does Anyone Want To Do A Summer Fly Swap?
Jason R. replied to troutfiend1985's topic in Fly Swaps & other Activities
Bump- Hey- fly swap means we swap flies... Not I send flies and you keep them... lamest swap ever conducted. Seriously man, I can send you 3 bucks for the shipping- I at least want my little Plano box back- I use that thing for stuff. -
The guy at the park store once told me that I only needed a MS trout stamp if I wanted to keep fish- any validity to that? I trusted the guy, and did not get stopped so I didnt find out for sure. I was fishing outside the park btw so I didnt get the daily tag either.

Wading boots are important in that they need to be comfortable with your waders, durable, and they need good traction for the area you are fishing. You have all the different options: felt bottoms, studded felt bottoms, rubber, studded rubber, rubber with cork stuff in it etc. In my opinion, felt is best- but you have to clean it to avoid being a social pariah and a diseased didymo carrier. Rubber is cool for hiking but has less grip on moss and stuff. Studs are awesome for slick rock but not good in a boat. I would prefer to have a studded pair and one without studs but ive been getting along with just one pair of CPX felt boots for a couple years- they seem like pretty good boots by the way. Used to rock some Cabela's studded felt boots and they were good too- lasted at least 4 seasons. I think that if you want breathable waders, and will be in a canoe, the difference between stocking and boot foot will be negligible- the wading boots do hold some water but not a lot. Wading shoes and wading boots are for different purposes- wading shoes are good for warm conditions with no waders. Wading boots are made to be worn with waders but can be worn on their own with or without some wading socks. I wear my wading boots without my waders sometimes but I prefer sandals personally.

I would have hated to see it back then. That has to kill most of those fish- i mean they get a big hole ripped in their skin and possibly in the guts or what have you. The same junk happens at the little red every fall too- I guess the best you can do is to kindly inform people that snagging with a fly rod is not cool/illegal (though unenforceable) and that it is detrimental to the fish and everyones' fishing. Also, it does not make one cool or tough, though it is hard to tell if the fish was snagged in the grip and grin shot.
-
I am an Arkansan and just an occasional visitor... But could it be all the old guys snagging fish in the outlets every fall? I was disgusted last fall- I bet I saw 15 big browns snagged in the belly. I was fishing 6x and midges- which is all I found that they would take- and few would take even then- a retiree/snagging "fly fisherman" informed me that I ought to use at least 9 pound line and 5-8 flies... which is what he had on... in order to snag fish in the belly... disgusting.

Lamson Konic Vs Allen Trout Fly Reel
Jason R. replied to trout newby's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
One thing you may want to look at is weight- the Konic is 4.4 ounces while the Flyrise is 4.7. Not a huge different but could be noticeable. I think I would go with the 1.5 for a four weight- I am sure the 2 would be fine though- I'm just thinking weight. Plus I don't usually worry about backing capacity on a four weight. Ive handled both reels and own both brands (though not those models) and I prefer Lamson- especially for their value reels. Upper tier Ross's are incredible... but so are lamsons. Lamson's lower models are just plain better in my opinion. I have an old Radius 2 and it has been awesome. -
Lamson Konic Vs Allen Trout Fly Reel
Jason R. replied to trout newby's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Konic +1- Lamson is legit. -
Dude, yes- 6wt+8x = break offs. If I am using 8x... well I never use 8x- its the worst. I rarely use less that 4x with my 6wt. Get a 4wt or a 3wt- my 3 is my favorite rod- especially for 8 inch browns- and it'll protect 8x better.
-
That is a great rod- I just bought the exact same one a few months ago. Thats a great deal too- those things are on clearance and they are still 500$. Pretty rough on the ol' budget.
-
Im no builder, just a hobby builder but I would built it yourself. It might not look as good as if a pro did it but I guarantee you will enjoy a rod your hand built. Its also really easy to put one together- just look up some youtube videos on it. But I am sure there are plenty of builders out there that would be glad to fix you up as well- either way- good luck with the rod and the recovery.
-
I disagree, everyone stay in the parks. I may or may not be somewhere else...

Its a take home final HogLaw... when youre a 3l you take the path of least resistance sometimes. But Doug sent me some suggestions on that Batson blank, I've never built an MHX so maybe I will try one next time. I'm goin for a green theme- ie green blank, green accents, green reel seat, mini fighting butt etc. Should look cool with my 6wt reel and will be an improvement over my Redington- which is too fast for my casting style. PS- If anyone needs a Redington CPX 9'6 6wt- I would let it go for a good price.
-
Anyone tried a Batson Rainshadow blank- the RX7 one? I was thinking about making my new 6wt out of one- they are kinda pricey- about 100$, but they have decent reviews and they look pretty good- I want the green one, I think I'd go green wraps with turquoise accents, green struble u-15 aluminum reel seat and a custom handle with some of those cool green cork accents in there... that's what I've been thinking about during Admin Law class anyway, but I don't want to build a cool looking rod with a blank that I do not like. I also am looking at TFO blanks- I honestly just don't like the way they look- bad colors and that huge label, or if I could find a good price on a sage VT2, that would be awesome. Alright, back to Admin Law...

Cant beat foam for hopper patterns... I kinda tie all my dry flies with foam if I can- does that make me a cheater?
-
I agree with HogLaw, once you start building rods, its hard to buy a factory Sage or Loomis for 600$. It is all marketing- some people LOVE that their rod cost as much as some people's car- but most of those people aren't real anglers- just occasional "hey look at me" fair weather fisherpeople. I wrapped up my first fly rod about a year ago- cost me 70$, I used the absolute cheapest components available and a Batson blank I found on closeout. The thing is sweet- great hopper rod, actually I landed the biggest brown Ive ever caught on that rod. I think everyone should try wrapping a rod- its no harder than tying a fly (its easy) and you enjoy the rod infinitely more. Course, that rod looks like crap compared to my Sages... but 70$ vs. 500$ or whatever is hard to argue.

Dude, I liked that video.

Anyone Have Experience With Wapsi Kits?
Jason R. replied to Jack Jones's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
I second the slick kit.
